I hope I've got what everyone wants in the title of this, the twelfth thread in the series.

Thank you dulci

OVienna · 22/01/2020 21:35

And yeah - the other kids. Where are they???

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 22/01/2020 21:35

He does seem to have made the mistake of treating M disproportionately well in relation to his other children. Having experienced this myself after my parents divorce it's extremely shit.

Because Thomas was wealthy?
So Meghan ditched her own mother?

I wonder if it's a case of an unwholesome trait never properly addressed and snipped in the bud. Plus being spoilt.

TheMustressMhor · 22/01/2020 21:36

Don't expect decent discussion when primarily dishing out insults, questioning the sanity of those involved and demanding the discussion be stopped arbitrarily as it's just too disgusting to fathom.

Absolutely. This is emphatically not an echo chamber but there is no reason why any posters here should engage in dialogue with people who are being deliberately goading in tone and language.

Would be grateful for a summary for those of us not in UK.

So far TM is coming across as a very devoted father to Meghan, but not the best husband, he says himself that he spent too much time at work. He also brought his two children from his first marriage into his second one to Doria. He suggested she wasn't necessarily overjoyed but credits her with being very helpful. He looked after Meghan from 11 to 16 and they seemed to have a great bond at that time. Not sure where Doria was at that point.

peridito · 22/01/2020 21:37

I was told a post of mine was "grotesque" last night. I commented unfavourably on the nose father and daughter shared till M got get nose done. So I don't think it's the opposing arguments that are the problem, rather the hyperbolic shaming language and regular assertions that we are unhinged, disgusting, should be ashamed blah blah blah. The constant reporting and intensive efforts to get the thread deleted don't help

Are you sure you're not exaggerating Wendy ? Can you give some examples of this shaming language and the regular assertions ?

As for constant reporting I can only speak for myself but I've only reported 2 posts ,equal with the OP I think ? MN are following the threads more closely now so I imagine that some of the deletions may have taken place without being reported .

What are you referring to when you talk about intensive efforts to get the thread deleted ?

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 22/01/2020 21:38

Are you sure you're not exaggerating Wendy ? Can you give some examples of this shaming language and the regular assertions ?

Quite sure Smile.

I have no intention of scrolling back to find them. Do your own donkey work!

JeansNTees · 22/01/2020 21:39

Disappointing that he's skipped over the lottery win. I've heard different stories about where the money went and think it would have been interesting to hear the truth.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 22/01/2020 21:40

I agree his view is amazing. By what he says he's having a golden retirement.

JeansNTees · 22/01/2020 21:40

ooooo this isn't looking good for him. Asking your child for money, $20,000?

TheMustressMhor · 22/01/2020 21:40

I really do think that it is best not to engage - we do not want a series of messages deleted and the integrity of the thread threatened.

OP posts:
OVienna · 22/01/2020 21:41

Yeah, hmm. This dude.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 22/01/2020 21:41

I know. It's SO hard though! But you're quite right TheMustressMhor. I will leave it there.

JeansNTees · 22/01/2020 21:42

Cheese Louise this family is complicated. He gives her money, she gives him money, she either lived with him before university or she lived with her mum, they were either amicable or not so much.

OVienna · 22/01/2020 21:42

Exactly. Re the twenty grand.

peridito · 22/01/2020 21:42

I do read the threads Wendy and I've not noticed the phenomena you describe .
I don't think you should make assertions without anything to back them up .Just my view .

TheMustressMhor · 22/01/2020 21:43

Peridito does not know how many posts I have reported, but I assure you all that it is a good deal more than two.

OP posts:
Encyclo · 22/01/2020 21:43

You said it's not possible to argue a point here and I explained why you don't get many communicative responses. Respond how you like, I don't care what anyone thinks of my views, I am fine with them, but don't expect decent discussion when primarily dishing out insults, questioning the sanity of those involved and demanding the discussion be stopped arbitrarily as it's just too disgusting to fathom. Why would you want a discussion with such people anyway?

I'm interested in arguing the points on this discussion topic. I haven't attacked anyone actually on this thread, but I'm still a SCOLD. As to why would I want a discussion? Its a discussion board. Mumsnet would be a dull place if all the threads consisted of people in full agreement.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 22/01/2020 21:44

He actually comes across as really likeable. It’s not saying much really that we don’t know already though is it?

TheMustressMhor · 22/01/2020 21:45

People who are ignored tend to disengage and disappear IME.

OP posts:
CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 22/01/2020 21:45

I agree that his mask slipped a bit on the $20,000. Then he cites paying for her tuition and everything, but you either do those things willingly as a parent or you only help to an extent you're comfortable with. You don't hold it up as bribery laterHmm

I think a part of him regrets being so generous with spending on her childhood.

Nikhedonia · 22/01/2020 21:45

Ahhh! Busy day and just catching up!! I've missed the first 40 minutes of the documentary Sad

Hope everyone is positively THRIVING!

I would absolutely give my parents £20,000 if they needed it and I had it to spare, though.

I just wonder why he had such financial trouble after being relatively successful before.

GuytheBeagle · 22/01/2020 21:45

This shows just how interesting these threads are.

Because of my own family circs, I have a massive view on what we are being told in this doc.

Another good reason to have a strong humour cats food thing going on.

Will speak laterSmile

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/01/2020 21:46

Twenty grand is not a lot of money if you’re worth $4.5 million.

Doria comes across like her persona in the press, sweet and quiet.

Sounds like a Meghan grew up with not too many strong boundaries.
An 11yo choosing where she wants to live and her parents accomodating her literally and metaphorically

FiveTwoFaster · 22/01/2020 21:46

It didn’t come across to me that he asked for $20,000 - more that she gave him money for Christmas once and that he did ask her for some money too.

I can’t work out what I think. He is quite open about the money, he has been discreet about MM moving in. He has not said much about his son, but I like that Samantha is “Babe” and he said how beautiful she was as a baby too. He hasn’t slagged anyone off yet - he has not mentioned the lottery win, but he has said he paid for her university, her rent etc and provided the monetary help to get her acting.

He’s not perfect but he’s not an asshole. Yet. I presume this is coming. But he is so much better than in his tv interviews. He is measured and honest and clearly an introvert.
