Chelsey would have been much better for him but would have hated being a Royal wife too.
I feel very sorry for him actually. He’s a decent guy. Things just haven’t worked out too well for him romantically.

diddl · 20/01/2020 21:24

"I mean - what does it matter?"

Because it ranked her below him & meant that she was sometimes "outranked" (shock, horror!) by their guests.

"Their nn for HMQ was "shirley temple" and "cake" for the QM..."

Yes, so also Mrs Temple for QM. I think "Cookie" for QM as she was rumoured to be the cook's daughter.

GoFiguire · 20/01/2020 21:25

Has he married his own version of his mother?

Imstinkyeddie · 20/01/2020 21:27

Their own staff had to call her HRH.

Wonder if H will follow suit?

NutellaQuest · 20/01/2020 21:28

They had to leave because their behaviour was at odds with the Royal Family - they were fired.

Imstinkyeddie · 20/01/2020 21:32

...yet he seems to think he could just carry on doing royal duties???
Odd.

LaMarschallin · 20/01/2020 21:34

It does seem that Harry wrote his own speech; maybe he's picked up "gotten" from MM. Surely she'd have had some input though?

The money for his education didn't pay dividends:

a charity me and Prince Seeiso created

It's a short step to "could of", you mark my words.

Re Wallis, Edward and Cake/Cookie, I'd read that they called the QM that because she was plump.
As were most people next to "A woman can't be too rich or too thin" Wallis.

JulieWaltersSnaggedMyJumper · 20/01/2020 21:36

@OVienna How Is Your Partridge?

I think Harry has married his Great Grandmother (MM and The Queen Mum shared the same birthday for a start).

"I'd read that they called the QM that because she was plump."

Yes & think that's it-plump & plain-more like staff that aristocracy being the implication!

So he seemed to loathe these people but was always on at them for money & Wallis I can imagine encouraging-yes of course you shouldn't even have to ask they should fund you & be grateful to do so because of who you are & you're entitled to it...

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/01/2020 21:39

@Gofiguire

I would agree that Harry has (subconsciously) married someone damaged like his mum.
She also had a habit of dropping people.
She was estranged from her own mother and her then very good friend Fergie.

Diana was thin skinned and liked to control the narrative by bringing Journalists; particularly Richard Kay of the DM.

Maybe quitting was the right thing to do for Meghan, instead of struggling.
However; Harry has given up every element of support to follow Meghan.
She is going to have to step up when he had his inevitable struggles,

I think the next move will be a photoshop in a magazine; probably Harpers and nothing too revelatory. Just photos of Archie and Meghan in expensive borrowed gowns.

diddl · 20/01/2020 21:42

Hmm, interesting to view it as them being fired.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 20/01/2020 21:44

Just looking at the pictures of William and Kate tonight. He looks like he hasn't slept and she looks sad and distant. i wonder if the thought has ever crossed their minds ' lucky sods, I wish WE could piss off out of it all and live our own lives'. I think I would feel that if I were them.

It must be hard to do an engagement like that when they must be in some emotional turmoil.

strictlymomdancing · 20/01/2020 21:44

W&K look so unhappily married in this photo Hmm

TwentyViginti · 20/01/2020 21:44

What about his former girlfriends though? They both turned him down apparently, so MM was not his first and only love. She's just the only one who said yes! Grin

MarySidney · 20/01/2020 21:48

Re Wallis, Edward and Cake/Cookie, I'd read that they called the QM that because she was plump.
As were most people next to "A woman can't be too rich or too thin" Wallis.

The QM referred to Wallis as 'the stick insect', I believe.

(Have had to jump to the end of the thread as I haven't been able to keep up.)

derxa · 20/01/2020 21:50

In his subconscious did he see this panning out this way exactly like it has? I agree

yolofish · 20/01/2020 21:51

I just watched the Dangling Man episode of The Crown, in which EdVIII died. I have to say I found it eerily prescient of the current situation.

Need to catch up with the rest of the thread now.

Afrigginggoat · 20/01/2020 21:56

Well.....let's take this out for a walk and see if it gets a royal patronage.....

What if Meghan isn't the scheming control freak but instead a woman who got in very deep, very conscious of her age, on a relationship without thinking about the life. She met Harry in her mid thirties. A quick marriage or baby without a ring was never happening so she has to either cut and run or wait it out. So she waits, goes with the whole wedding thing, she can play the part of the excited bride and then boom! Her dad screws the whole thing up. She doubted herself but what can she do. So she hangs in there, the wedding is fab, they start ttc and she gets pregnant which must have been a relief. But then boom! All the grief from the media starts pouring in re bananas and cradling the bump. She is doubting herself more. Maybe those chunks of the tours she missed was because she just couldn't hack it. Maybe it wasn't security who freaked at the market, maybe it was a panic attack.
So Harry gets more and more protective, Meghan gets more and more anxious. The baby arrives and he's beautiful but she doesn't feel any ,ore secure then the SA tour. The baby is the excuse for limiting her itinerary but she's exhausted and the temptation to scream for help gets too much. Hence the documentary and the six weeks off.
The discussions re role are ongoing, the plan is to get back to work but at the last minute she starts to wobble. So they leave Baby in Canada and come back to see the Queen but then it becomes clear to Harry he's not going to get a result quickly enough to help his wife. So he acts like a soldier, evacuates his wife back overseas and launches the grenade......

bohemia14 · 20/01/2020 22:01

Afriggingoat. Interesting theory but it doesn't mention the fact that they wanted to be able to make money out of being a member of the Royal family. They don't want a quiet life.

Imstinkyeddie · 20/01/2020 22:04

goat
Could be.
Except for Ms public appearances in canada whilst H was dealing with his family alone...
Dunno.
It's all just very odd.
And I think HMQs statement the oddest thing of all!
H & M are on record saying they/she felt unsupported by the RF.
But HMQs statement was SO warm and affectionate in tone?
Which is it?
Who is lying?

katiegoestoaldi · 20/01/2020 22:04

Nice scenario affringgoat but it ignores a lot of evidence to the contrary

katiegoestoaldi · 20/01/2020 22:04

Afrigginggoat rather

Imstinkyeddie · 20/01/2020 22:05

Anyone think this moght bring PCs regency closer?

Justmuddlingalong · 20/01/2020 22:05

Perhaps having a baby is exhausting. Perhaps trying to parent that baby and parent a husband who seems emotionally immature too is just too much.
