Edward was the ' arty ' one of the family. He had the 'royal it's a knockout 'on tv in the 80s and there was a huge backlash against it as it was so awful. I think it was his way of trying tv productions and modernising the Royals! He tried the marines and didn't last long. I think he then sort of took a back seat and married Sophie and sort of disappeared!
I doubt they would' line the streets' to see him as they might for Kate and William etc but he might get a few show up to cheer him on. He never struck me as being very personable but Sophie seems nice enough and the oldest girl of theirs looks like the Queen! They are close to the Queen I read somewhere; probably because they are fairly 'normal ' and drama free.

MaisWee if you scroll down that family tree i linked in my pp you will get to row 5 and the guy on the far right is Prince Michael of Kent. Princess Michael is his wife (not pictured)

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 14:19

Prince Michael of Kent who is the first cousin of the Queen

Who were his parents and don't say King so and so. That means nothing to me. I mean aunt/uncle on which side. Try to relate it back to the Queen for me, so that my tiny pea brain can understand

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 14:20

A family tree is a diagram. Not a list.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/01/2020 14:20

You all talk like Harry hasn't got a will, a brain, an ounce of backbone

No, not all; some of us have said from the start that Harry could have taken a stronger position, not least in avoiding a rushed marriage to someone he hardly knew. Among much else, he could also have avoided bringing an innocent child into this quite so fast and held back on supporting some of his wife's poorer attitudes

But instead he chose to throw absolutely everything into an attempt to please Meghan - an option which will win him little respect from anyone, least of all her. As Catherine already said, giving up so much means it will hurt all the more if he's discarded, but sadly that's the price he'll have to pay for the choice he's made

Notthissh1tagain · 20/01/2020 14:21

George/ Edward had a sister I think. Often forgotten about.

Notthissh1tagain · 20/01/2020 14:21

George being the queens father

eggandonion · 20/01/2020 14:21

Princess Michael is married to the Queen s cousin, he is Prince Michael.
She is called Marie Christine I think, but for some reason has to have his name as an official title.

RUOK · 20/01/2020 14:22

The Kents and Gloucesters are royal dukes the same as Harry, they were sons of King George V, the present Queen's grandfather.

That's the kind of life for Harry and Meghan as time went on unless they did something else instead.

notmoresheep · 20/01/2020 14:22

no MaisWeee Princess Michael is the wife of Prince Michael, HMQ’s first cousin on her father’s side. Prince Michael is the son of George, who was the brother of Ed VIII and George VI (HMQ’s DF).

OT. Prince & Princess Michael are the parents of Freddie Windsor, who’s married to Sophie, Claudia Winkleman’s sister if you care about pop culture.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 20/01/2020 14:22

Maisweee

George V had 6 children not 2 . Lots of info on t'internet.

Ninjava · 20/01/2020 14:23

Prince Michael’s father was the Duke of Kent, who was the Queen’s uncle, son of George V and younger brother of George VI (the Queen’s father). He died in a plane crash in World War II.

GoFiguire · 20/01/2020 14:24

The Duchess of Kent (Wimbledon) is not the same person as Princess Michael of Kent.

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 14:25

Ok, so a forgotten sister. So the Queen's aunt (paternal side), had a son called Michael. He married the blacmoor brooch lady. Got it!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 20/01/2020 14:25

Diagram here
(Sorry too lazy to draw my own)

yolofish · 20/01/2020 14:26

What we need here is my Aunt Betty, sadly deceased. What she didnt know about genealogy is NOT worth knowing. I can cope with aunts, cousins etc but any further than that and I give up. I have lots of the Irish side of the family, and they are all known as cousins as none of us have the wit to follow the genealogy.

GoFiguire · 20/01/2020 14:26

The Duchess of Kent is a nice person and Princess Michael of Kent once said that she isn’t racist because she once dyed her hair black to look like a POC, as an excuse for wearing that brooch.

EmeraldShamrock · 20/01/2020 14:26

it was just a list of them all. I need a diagram
Well I doubt pp's will go through the effort to draw you one. Maybe some will. Hmm

Notthissh1tagain · 20/01/2020 14:27

Nope I was wrong. It was George which I found strange as Bertiw became King George.

I think the children of female siblings did not get a title?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 20/01/2020 14:27

you'd have thought someone between PMK's dressing table and the venue might have taken the trouble to point it out.

You would think so.

I was wondering what it would take for Oprah and the Clooneys to turn on Meghan.

Don't know about 'turning on' them. I don't think anybody wants that, but the Clooney's personal politics are very to the left and their ideals appear to match. Wasn't Mr Clooney waxing lyrical about how M was being pursued like Diana? I actually think they'll be keen to provide help and advice to them.

Oprah. Well I don't personally have a very high opinion of Oprah but if there's a story to be had she'll take it.

EmeraldShamrock · 20/01/2020 14:27

And there you go. @TracyBeakerSoYeah Grin

GoFiguire · 20/01/2020 14:27

The Queen’s aunt is not Prince Michael of Kent’s mother but his aunt.

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 14:27

Oh Christ. I give up. I'm more confused now than ever. I'm not English so we don't learn the names of the royals. Giving me a name means nothing. All we learned really was the succession of the throne.
