Will she divorce him now I wonder?

MarySidney · 18/01/2020 23:14

The Invictus games - I do think Harry did a great job with that and I hope he can continue so we'll see what happens in the next games.

Well, the military is allegedly pissed off with him, so we'll see.

But yes, his work with the wounded overall has been a real achievement, a niche which he found for himself, and which he won't be able to replicate in his new life.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/01/2020 23:15

So he can’t wear the fancy uniforms now?

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 18/01/2020 23:19

Is it proximity to LA that got them to BC or did Harry not fancy a Toronto winter?

I think they went where the free mansion was. I don't anything else influenced their decision to be located there.

AutumnCrow · 18/01/2020 23:19

They won't use the HRH titles but will still 'retain them', ie for future use.

The 'repayment' money effectively comes from the people of the UK, via Charles / Cornwall / sovereign grant.

Piss take.

Chickychickydodah · 18/01/2020 23:21

I’ll give him 5 years before she gets rid of him and he comes back, I love the royals and think they do a fantastic job. I think Harry and Megan have been very disrespectful to the queen and the rest of the royals. I don’t think they will get any privacy in Canada either.

PattiPrice · 18/01/2020 23:22

I don’t suppose anyone will really know what happened or was said until somebody writes a biography in years to come.

It is all merely speculation and opinions, much of it said in spite.

Interesting that Thomas Markle has supposedly done an interview. I am assuming the RF had him on their payroll up until now. Of course just mere speculation on my part based on the timing.

H&M really ought to live their dream lives now spending as they wish without any ties. Harry wanted to leave the RF duties for a long time and she simply enabled him to do it. I’m not sure she will find happiness but perhaps her role as a mother will fulfil her. Harry will join his very rich friends doing what very rich people do - travel and enjoy life. Harry strikes me as a playboy. William comes across as petulant. It must be difficult to be anything other than spoiled and arrogant when you lead their lives. I’m sure Chelsea and Cressida are breathing HUGH sighs of relief that they escaped the gilded cage when they did. I follow both of them on Istagram and both lead such privileged lives, holiday after holiday, event after event. They have the best of both worlds. Privilege and time to fill exactly as they choose. Harry and Meg, already have half this life and will fit into the other half very well. All these hugely wealthy children of wealthy parents who do very little, the rich friends they were envious of in school because they didn’t have duty and scrutiny, they now have their lives.

StartupRepair · 18/01/2020 23:23

Queen has completely shut down Meghan's toxic family narrative about the BRF.

scaryteacher · 18/01/2020 23:30

@lilmishap The Royal Marines are not Army....they are part of the Royal Navy. Not being pedantic, but factual.

ChicCroissant · 18/01/2020 23:31

According to the DM, Mr Markle has done an interview for Chanel 5

Classy.

RUOK · 18/01/2020 23:31

I hope their little family thrives, I genuinely do, but I also genuinely feel they’re both massive hypocrites who are thinking about the price of everything and the value of nothing.

KodiNatural · 18/01/2020 23:34

ha ha Meghan on Horrible Bosses right now!

I was watching it and had exactly the same thought.

Ihatesundays · 18/01/2020 23:34

I wish I had time to read all the threads.
I don’t think they want a quiet life at all. I think they want to be centre stage, but honestly, they aren’t that interesting. In the end they are going to be on the sidelines. We know there has to be a massive state funeral in the next few years and everything that follows and they are going to be pushed back even more.
I’d have more respect if this had all happened before the wedding. If Meghan had said, I want you but not all of this. This seems poorly timed.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 18/01/2020 23:35

On BBC 10 o'clock news I note it said that H&M will pay a commercial rent for Frogmore House when they stay there. It is disappointing that it will remain empty for most of the time and PC will pay for its upkeep. In the real world you pay a commercial rent for a home, irrespective of how little or often you occupy it. Still, that's PC's business as it is coming out of his own money.

It seems to me that H&M are the winners. They will have no royal duties, they get to keep the patronages and charities they are interested in and they'd already said they wished to give up the income from the sovereign grant. They are stlll going to receive funding from the Duchy of Cornwall so, apart from agreeing to
uphold the monarchy's values, it sounds as if they have got what they wanted.

They may intend to pay back the £2.4m spent on Frogmore Cottage from taxpayers' money. I'll wait and see whether it actually happens.

We just need to know who will pay for securiy now.

I hope Harry goes to Canada very soon and the UK press move on to the next story.

TheMustressMhor · 18/01/2020 23:39

What would happen if Harry were to remarry one day (and was still the Duke of Sussex at that point?)

Heavens - the Monarch at that point would just give him another title. Or he could use one of the (many) other titles he already has.

When Prince Charles becomes King, and Prince William becomes Prince of Wales - well, it is usual for the younger son of the Monarch to be made Duke of York.

This is getting increasingly difficult to achieve as people are living longer and longer. Therefore, as Prince Andrew is still very much alive, nobody can be made Duke of York.

But that's a side issue really. Eventually Prince William will become King William, and his children will become Prince of Wales, Princess Royal and Duke of York. But not until the current incumbents are dead.

One thing about the RF is that they have a never-ending list of titles which they can award to themselves.

It's going to be fascinating as they explore the limits within the royal values. How much merching and gifting can they slide past?

CSEpicFailure · 18/01/2020 23:41

A clip of Thomas' Markle interview on the DM. Also their sussexroyal website has an announcement to say it will be updated soon given today's announcmdentt. Signed off as HRH.

justasking111 · 18/01/2020 23:43

Just came across this, worth watching. MM has a sparkly and funny personality which really did not fit in the the royal theme. I can see why Harry fell for her.

pepperup · 18/01/2020 23:44

Poor Harry. I agree with SirChing and I genuinely believe that while Harry may have been unhappy he never intended or expected this. They wanted a halfway house - keep all the trappings without the duty or scrutiny - and they were effectively abdicated. The Queen has lived her life doing exactly the opposite - the duty and scrutiny never intended for her was placed upon her shoulders and apart from the odd misstep she has been a remarkable monarch - all the more so when she was never raised to do the job.

MarySidney · 18/01/2020 23:54

Eventually Prince William will become King William, and his children will become Prince of Wales, Princess Royal and Duke of York. But not until the current incumbents are dead.

The title of Princess Royal isn't automatically given to the eldest daughter. It was given to Princess Anne in recognition of the hard work she has put in over the years.

SerenDippitty · 18/01/2020 23:56

Which is ironic since people dislike the fact that Meghan was an actress......

Most people didn’t dislike the fact that Meghan was an actress, they disliked how she carried on acting after marrying Harry,

Froq · 18/01/2020 23:58

So we’ll be seeing pap walks for the next couple of weeks. Then comes the Oscars. Then a big announcement to ensure she stays relevant.

SerenDippitty · 18/01/2020 23:59

Do they call continuing to get funding from the Duchy of Cornwall “being financially independent”?

Bluerussian · 19/01/2020 00:01

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51163865

I'm glad it has all been solved fairly and amicably. What the Queen said was lovely.

Good luck to them, they are doing what is right for them and I hope they'll be happy. Also they'll be back here from time to time to see family, have holiday etc, maybe even some non royal work.

Ihatesundays · 19/01/2020 00:05

Yes @SerenDippitty. I was talking to DH earlier that PH has absolutely no concept of real life/costs (not his fault at all). Their idea of ‘financial independence’ is clueless when you add in security.
