Wills and Kate will have to step and take on more engagements.
So they should! They are the ones that will benefit the most from the continuation of the RF so they should be stepping up. They don't both need to stay with the children, especially when 2 are at school and they have several nannies! Many of their engagements are things like going to the theatre, going to Wimbledon, going to the Chelsea Flower Show. Hardly onerous!

JenZenn · 18/01/2020 23:23

Hoik thank you for posting that link. The Press are vicious to H&M.

Junie70 · 18/01/2020 23:25

Will and Kate have been very lucky that MM came along when she did, because it took the focus off their lack of efforts. Catherine only pops up when it's a sporting or red carpet event, or the odd school thing that is out of doors. Will doesn't appear to be much better..................

PickAChew · 18/01/2020 23:29

You seem a little over invested, ken.

They can't win, can they? A few months ago when Harry complained about the press intrusion and racism that Meghan had experienced, the general gist was that he could give up his royal privileges and get a job, like Zara and Peter, if he didn't like the trappings of his lifestyle with regard to media interest and public opinion. Now he has taken that advice and done just that, he is vilified for it.

He has resigned his job. He hasn't divorced his family a la Macauley Culkin, or pissed on the royal colours. He's just handed his notice in and emigrated. He's given up the salary.

FFS, there is such a double standard on here. Any private citizen who was being hounded and was unhappy would be given empathy and support. If anyone said they had to work for the family firm, couldn't resign and their wife was being treated awfully by their customers because she was American, or an actress, or not Chelsy Davey, they would be told to go no contact, be assertive, you only get one life, and so on.

Hirsutefirs · 18/01/2020 23:53

From now on it’s: “Hey- you!”

ChickLitLover · 19/01/2020 00:01

They can't win, can they?

No, because many people, as shown on here, like to moan about anything and everything. They’ve stepped down, will repay money etc...but now the arseholes will just go on about the money on security. 🙄

I hope Harry and Meghan get left alone now and have a happy life with their son.

woodchuck99 · 19/01/2020 00:10

FFS - are you trying to be dense 🙄

Are you?

Working a 40 hour week for minimum wage maybe? And that's a picnic compared to what a lot of people do 🙄

So only people on minimum wage do real work? Don't be ridiculous.

I have no strong feelings about the individuals involved, and perhaps this is over-thinking things, but I have a suspicion that the institution has spun this situation as a dramatic falling out (when it's probably been brewing for a while and could have been handled with much less hyperbole) to distract from everything that has been going on with Prince Andrew.

lyralalala · 19/01/2020 04:14

They don't seem to be dropping the HRH just yet!!

It says in the statement the changes will take place in the spring

Presumably to allow any engagements already planned to to carried out

CreekIsRising · 19/01/2020 07:21

He's given up the salary.

No. He's given up the 5% of his yearly income (I hesitate to call it a salary because he's not an employee with an employment contract) that comes from public funds.

He'll continue to receive what they're calling "money from Prince Charles" ie his share of cash generated from the Duchy of Cornwall. This, at £5 million a year, was always the bulk of their income anyway.

Harry has always distanced himself so this really is no surprise but I think it’s disgusting and misogynist how Megan is getting so much blame for it like it’s all her decisions Rather than a joint decision.
I have so much more respect for Harry and Megan for doing this than for William and Kate,
Good on them, I wish them lots of happiness and I do not blame them one bit. Marriage is about joint decisions for what’s best for them as a couple and given what they’ve had to put up with this is clearly the best decision.
I hope other royals follow this lead!

Nofoolfornoone · 19/01/2020 08:15

For those who are sad that Harry has “given up” his family...
They are not the first couple of emigrate. Plenty have. And they still remain part of a family. He’s just resigned from a family business he’s not divorced them!
And secondly, if anyone’s family causes them misery then absolutely the right thing to do is create some distance and care for yourself. We would advocate that for anyone surely. And the Windsor’s are ridiculously dysfunctional. Actually William and Harry bought them royal family much more credibility and likeability and so without Harry it will damage the royal family which is no bad thing in my book.

TryingToBeBold · 19/01/2020 08:17

@CaptnSkittles

I agree...this won't last long but she'll use the kid(s) as leverage. If shes such a good actress why can't she play the role of Royal Duchess? She's a gold digger who fell in love with the chance to get her name known through the world ( no one knew who she was until she hooked up with a prince!) Its a shame she married for greed. She loved the title and fame not the man. I feel for Harry...she has thrust him in an ultimatum position between her or his family....she already dropped her family because they couldn't advance her anymore...Beware Harry. While yoyr mother would have been proud that you wanted to live a simpler life , she would not be oroud of how you did it. Your grandmother is 93 and your grandfather , at 98 was in the hospital and your kack of compassion was appalling

You'll have to show this thread to H&M given that you seem to know them personally so well Grin

Nofoolfornoone · 19/01/2020 08:18

The way Prince Andrew has been allowed fo fade into nothing is absolutely disgusting and completely makes me have no respect for the royal family. How can anyone blame Meghan and Harry for getting away from a family who allow a member of the family to get away with sexual exploitation.

roisinagusniamh · 19/01/2020 08:43

I agree with Nofoolfornoone....
M&H making such a fuss if it all...just go.
As they say in Ireland "bye now"

LauraAurora79 · 19/01/2020 08:45

Prince Andrew is indeed utterly vile, but I don't see what else the Queen could have done besides display his head on a pole outside Buckingham Palace. What else would you all like her to have done?

I do agree, that had the Queen sent out a statement asking the press to lay off MM, then that would have helped. This country has become very weird towards outsiders. I honestly think it's all, including the Brexit vote, subconsciously been roused up by the First World War commemorations that have been going on since 2014.

I also think that Harry will be nothing after a while in America. Just another balding posh twit. He'll end up stoned most of the time on the legal cannabis in Canada, doing all the childcare, while MM schmoozes with the Hollywood royalty.

leopardandspots · 19/01/2020 08:45

I think it’s disgusting and misogynist how Megan is getting so much blame for it like it’s all her decisions Rather than a joint decision.

I agree. So many people are keen to 'blame the woman.'

If she was so keen on manipulating herself into the princess dream then she would stay and do the photo ops for all the fame, jewellery and public subservience.

There is a chance (quite a significant one) that Megan is supporting her husband's deep seated choice and seeing his understandable psychological damage she is making an attempt to liberate and rescue him.

At the end of the day -he lost his beloved Mum tragically, he is brought up aware of acute duty & entitlement. A possible spare King in waiting. Yet he isn't equal to his sibling- never can be. He is the spare then gets demoted progressively to 3,4,5 etc each time William has children.

Harry has given many clues such as:
" There's a lot of times that both myself and my brother wish obviously that we were just, you know, completely normal," he said. "But, you know, we've been born into this position. And then therefore, we'll do what we need to do to make a difference to the people and to kids that need it, you know?"

" .. William and I ... We are not doing this for ourselves but for the greater good of the people…. Is there any one of the royal family who wants to be king or queen? I don't think so, but we will carry out our duties at the right time."

Prince Harry told Newsweekk^ in 2017 that he was in a rush to "to make something of my life. I feel there is just a smallish window when people are interested in me before [William's children] take over, and I've got to make the most of it."

Why isn't the possibility of his wife being his mentor and rescuer even considered?

Nofoolfornoone · 19/01/2020 08:59

@LauraAurora79 I think he should have been made to tell the truth, apologise and face trial.

SoupDragon · 19/01/2020 09:03

So, just like the Duchess ofCambridge...?

econowifey · 19/01/2020 09:04

But Kate is doing the role 🤷‍♀️
