What’s a ‘yacht girl’. What does it mean?

Dolorabelle · 18/01/2020 21:22

Good. One fewer pair of scroungers

I wonder if Eugenie and Beatrix will be asked to do more minor activities to share the burden

Well it might be nice if they were better than their parents in terms of actually working ...

morrisseysquif · 18/01/2020 21:28

In line with the statement by Her Majesty The Queen, information on the roles and work of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be updated on this website in due course. We appreciate your patience and invite you to explore the site to see the current works of Their Royal Highnesses.

From the website

They don't seem to be dropping the HRH just yet!!

Carlamity · 18/01/2020 21:30

I mean, it’s not like you can just rock up there and decide to stay, you need a visa or citizenship

You can emigrate to a country like Canada if you're self-supporting and/or investing significantly in business there, so with a combined net worth approx of £40m, I can't see there's likely to be a problem.

mumwon · 18/01/2020 21:32

Has it occurred to anybody that the Queen may actually be more sympathetic because of what happened with her father & his brother? The King didn't want become King he wanted a quiet life with his wife & family & when Edward abdicated their family life was disrupted & it is possible that his early death & excessive smoking & stress were closely linked. I do wonder if M was feeling overwhelmed after the baby & with the nasty criticism from the press & her seriously jealous & unpleasant sister & stupid father & on top of that everything that has happened with Andrew - the fear of what else the press & her sister might unleash … (& I don't have any sympathy with Andrew)

Financially I mean. If their non profit don't generate the millions they want it to.

Justajot · 18/01/2020 21:40

I'm intrigued by the concept of sharing the duties out. There are obviously some set pieces of work, but much of the work of the RF is optional. If there were half as many active members of the RF they'd just do half as much stuff. Some organisations might miss out on having minor royals at events, but it's not the end of the world.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 18/01/2020 21:42

Cannot understand the level of sychophancy with regard to the RF in this day and age - they are rich beyond measure - never have to do a days real work in their lives - how do people deify them - it's totally beyond me 🤷‍♀️

woodchuck99 · 18/01/2020 21:43

By not discussing security there is the implication that taxpayers in the U.K. and Canada are once again on the hook. Huge number up to 7m a year are being thrown around due to having at least two locations and lots of travel.

By not discussing security there is the implication that it hasn't been sorted out yet. I'm sure the 7 million figure is being pulled out of thin air by people who haven't got a clue. We will probably have to pay for their security when they're in the UK but we do for anyone who is target. It's not their fault that they need protection. We probably won't have to pay for it when they're in Canada and that's where they intend to be the most time.

How do you define "real work"?

othervoicesotherrooms · 18/01/2020 21:46

She's not 'stripped' them of or 'stopped' anything.
They've given up the job.

BorneoBabe · 18/01/2020 21:47

Wills and Kate will have to step and take on more engagements.

They have not been stripped of their titles - they asked to step back from the whole royal thing and that is what has been agreed.

Gingerkittykat · 18/01/2020 22:13

I wonder what happens next?

Do they live a celebrity life with Megan doing loads more things like the Vogue editorial or do they live a quieter life?

Will their earning power decrease after a few years?

I think Harry has done the right thing by stepping down, he would always be in his brother's footsteps as long as he stayed an active royal.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 18/01/2020 22:14

@NoooorthonerMum

I've reported your post - calling someone a moron is just not cricket - plus you missed the gist of my post completely - I'm too polite to tell you what I think about people like you

User123538025264653412 · 18/01/2020 22:35

@MyBlueMoonbeam

I must have missed the gist of your post too - it makes no sense. The royal family obviously have done a days work - unless for you only class minimum wage jobs in a factory is "real work". What did you actually mean?!

ALLMYSmellySocks · 18/01/2020 22:37

@MyBlueMoonbeam

I would infinitely prefer to work a 40 hour week in a minimum wage job that have to be a member of the royal family, have no privacy, be under constant threat to my life so I need 24-7 security and be constantly derided in the press. Awful way to live your life. I feel very sorry for them. This idea that money - lucky is so so childish.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 18/01/2020 23:11

Oh get a life the pair of you

noodlenosefraggle · 18/01/2020 23:12

It's a way of slut shaming women for the actions of old, rich men.
