Just seeing if there’s any interest. I think they have their faults but I think this may turn out to be a good thing long term. Anyone want to join in?

Good for them.

As someone who had the temerity to marry a long term single younger brother, stealing him away from his family (because he spent time with me instead of tagging along with his older brother), I had a lot of sympathy for Meghan. The whole narrative of how she has somehow manipulated harry, estranged him from his family and so on is just bullshit.

Samcro · 18/01/2020 21:41

Hopefully now a statement has been made, people will leave them alone, i am annoyed that mn hq have allowed the notin the spirit stuff to go on.
But.. it does prove thatPH was right to step away.
I personally think he and meghan will still be part of the private RF?
I do wish the RF would do more about Andrew, aeems so wrong that PH has taken so much flack, yet PA seems to be getting away with it.

Mischance · 18/01/2020 21:57

How I do agree with you Samcro - Harry and Meghan ([particularly Meghan) have done no-one any harm and they have been vilified and hounded in a disgraceful way.

Prince Andrew in the other hand consorted with a known paedophile and has simply dropped instantly from the headlines.

How unfair it all is.

I wish H and M well in their new future.

RuffleCrow · 18/01/2020 22:11

It's not like he's the first royal to emigrate. His family are mainly German anyway, and not that many generations ago in the great scheme of things.

Topseyt · 19/01/2020 01:46

I think the new statements are roughly in line with what could be expected, though I would have liked to see a little more less veiled criticism/chastisement if the gutter press.

I hope Harry and Meghan can now be left to get on with starting their new life. I hope it will suit them and Archie well. They won't cease to be newsworthy, but I hope it will be much more manageable and less intrusive now that they have put some distance between themselves and the British gutter press - geographically anyway.

I really can't say that the behaviour of our press makes me particularly proud to be British. They are shameful and anyone who buys their newspapers needs to take a long, hard look at themselves.

Fallsballs · 19/01/2020 07:33

The press have been horrendous. Not a royalist myself but the vitriol is breathtaking.
How come the same level of vitriol was not used against paedo uncle Andy and the cohorts of Epstein. What about all the money Andy gets ? The likes of Maxwell, Naomi Campbell, the Victoria Secrets boss and many more get no attacks, a mere mention now and again. I suppose their PR pay vast sums of money.
The Kardashian’s PR pay the DM vast sums hence then positive spin on their vacuous activities.
It’s like the school bullies have taken over.

Inkanta · 19/01/2020 08:24

it’s like the school bullies have taken over

I know! And Piers Morgan is still at it on twitter. Called Meghan a 'piece of work' yesterday.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 19/01/2020 08:39

I find the pair of them deeply irritating and much of the misery they were suffering was self inflicted. Even so I felt the relentless attacks by the press and the internet loons were beyond the pale.

I'm glad a solution been found because now hopefully they will stop complaining.

Michaelbaubles · 19/01/2020 08:54

I think they’re absolutely right to do what they’re doing.

As for all the frothing about “taxpayer’s money” - spare me! Do you know how many aristocrats are swanning around on the profits from land and assets that were basically stolen from the “common people” in days gone by? Fuck now there’s a whole class of people living off your graft without lifting a damn finger for it but nobody ever says a thing about them. Target your anger at the right people, your racism and sexism is showing...

NemophilistRebel · 19/01/2020 08:58

I’m pleased for them

I hate the media anger against them

Harry always wanted to do his own thing and he was lucky enough to find a wife who could give him the change in his lifestyle from just being a royal

I did wonder what her motives were when she first dated Harry but they seem so in love and she seems to just have such an awful set of family members and people out to get her that you can’t believe anything that’s written about her

They are doing the right thing for Archie and making a solid stand against a family that brush sexual assault or worst under the carpet

PortiaCastis · 19/01/2020 09:02

......and hopefully the vile bitching and inventing things will stop because I think some on this site should be ashamed of themselve because it is astounding and very very odd how people can presume to know what someone is thinking or what they said without even meeting them, if they stopped to think and realise that they were coming across as pretty low they praps wouldn't be so vile
Yep it's like the school bullies have taken over

NemophilistRebel · 19/01/2020 09:11

The fact that Piers Morgan targets Meghan with his Vitriol in a way never used on Prince Andrew should make everyone realise what camp Piers falls into.

Inkanta · 19/01/2020 09:22

The only way GMTV will wake up is when advertisers boycott the show. Piers should not be able to use this paid platform to belittle and attack Meghan - who he says 'ghosted' him. That's not journalism

mastertomsmum · 19/01/2020 09:38

I’m not especially a royalist, however, I think Harry and Meghan - in particular - have been tormented by the press. Some of it has been shockingly prejudiced and positively racist. It’s very worrying that this can happen in an era when movements like #Metoo have moved the agenda on in relation to sexist behaviour.

Samcro · 19/01/2020 09:39

i did hope that the statement would end the hate. but looking just on here, it does seem people are still keen to make stuff up and continue the hate.
i never watch anything with Piers in it as I think he a awful person. really do not understand why he is given air time.

itsgettingweird · 19/01/2020 09:43

I'm glad I found this as was thinking about it last night.

It must have been so hard for Harry. Always knowing he's the spare. Watching his parents divorce played out and his mum go through what she did.

Having the world question his parentage.

Losing his mum so young in a very public death full of conspiracy theories.

It's clear he always wanted a more 'normal' life. He really wanted to join the military like civilian. He partied like any lad late teens and early 20's.

He's found love and realised there is a way for him to live life how he wants.

I don't blame him. If he was likely to be King I'd have a different opinion i think. But he isn't.

I often wonder how William would be if he didn't know he's likely to reign one day.

Cerseirys · 19/01/2020 10:38

I'm glad a solution been found because now hopefully they will stop complaining.

Indeed @Myimaginarycathasfleas. And hopefully the batshit threads (must be approaching 10,000 posts soon?) that dress up speculation and wishful thinking as fact will soon die a natural death. I understand that this is all topical but really, what more is there to be said?

The royals have had their say, the Queen is happy, and the large proportion of the press and MN who've said for ages that H&M should go have got what they want.

Roussette · 19/01/2020 14:44

Totally agree with what @SenecaFalls said upthread.

The nastiness, the vitriol and the downright bigotry on MN against this couple has left me completely shocked. I've been on here I think it's 16 years and in all that time I have never seen such hate directed at another woman and at a couple with a child.

We are meant to be family friendly! And here is a guy who is doing everything in his power to protect his family.... his wife and baby boy, and for that he gets hate.

MN has changed and not for the good. It never used to be like this

Aridane · 19/01/2020 15:01

What is there to be happy for them about?
They're rich but not satisfied with that so want to dump the workload so they can exploit their privilege to get richer.

Slow handclap here - there are (numerous) other threads to dump bile

Does anyone want a thread for people who are happy for Harry and Meghan?
Aridane · 19/01/2020 15:06

I can't believe that people are more upset about this than Prince Andrew being close friends with a convicted paedophile and his attitude to us mere mortals

Astonishing, isn't it!

Zipadeedoodah · 19/01/2020 15:13

Yes I would love a positive thread instead of all this eye rolling and tutting

StarbucksSmarterSister · 19/01/2020 15:14

Sorry for the link to the DM but I am appalled by this. I've lost a huge amount of respect for HMQ over the Andrew issue.

Zipadeedoodah · 19/01/2020 15:15

I've cancelled my Times subscription today - Camilla Long in particular writes such vitriol but only at Meghan..
