Just seeing if there’s any interest. I think they have their faults but I think this may turn out to be a good thing long term. Anyone want to join in?

Samcro I think everything in the history of the RF shows that they put the 'job' before supporting each other. I watched a documentary series recently that emphasised that for the RF ensuring that Royalty continues was more important than anything else.

meercat23 · 23/02/2020 14:07

Sorry posted too soon. Wanted to add that the way that Edward viii and later Princess Margaret were dealt with demonstrates that.

Pity they haven't used the same ruthless measures to ensure that PA was kept in line much, much sooner.

Roussette · 23/02/2020 14:27

I agree which is why they're all a bit fucked up AFAIC. It must be really weird growing up with knowing that being part of the RF is more important than your emotions, feelings, worries etc.

I think HM has learned her lesson with PA, if you're going to be Royal you have to be careful who you associate with and who could exploit that

Which is why she jumped in with a walk to church with PA the very day after his appalling Maitlis interview? I think not. In this case, favourite son is let off his 'misdemeanours'.

(Disclaimer... if it wasn't the very next day, it was very soon after)
I've nothing against the Queen, she's done a wonderful job forever. However, when she goes I think it is all going to change and so it should.

Andrew is so disgusting. If I were H&am, I would decline anything that involves him on principle.

SecretWitch · 23/02/2020 14:33

Obviously meant H&M..

The move certainly seems to be working out for them

I think it might be wise to give it a little longer than a couple of weeks before declaring it a success. Who knows? The friends "leaking" that they are happy says nothing about what is really happening. Of course, that is what they would want us to believe, and it may be true, but there seem to be some reliable sources saying that they are beyond livid dismayed about the Sussex Royal business.
And the comments on their IG page are pretty negative in the main, which they must surely be finding upsetting. I suspect though, that such strong negative feeling can only be making them less inclined to return to the UK in any capacity at all.

Which is all very well, except that Instagram's international and so are any number of the negative comments

As a republican I admit I didn't realise so many would care about how they've treated the Queen, to say nothing of the rest of their self-absorbed behaviour, but perhaps I shouldn't be surprised since a belief in common decency's hardly restricted to one place

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 23/02/2020 16:38

I hope they're happy. I hope it works out for them. Separations can be difficult even with the best of intentions on both sides.

I think the fuss over their statement is just a lot of sound and noise amounting to very little.

They are living quietly and harming no-one.

CallmeAngelina · 23/02/2020 17:10

Actually, setphasers, I disagree. Their recent actions are hugely disrespectful to the Queen and are potentially damaging to the monarchy.

TheMustressMhor · 23/02/2020 17:26

Living quietly and harming no-one?

Not from where I'm sitting.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 23/02/2020 17:28

I don't think it's hugely disrespectful. If it's anything at all it's a disagreement - but we don't even know if it's that. It could be all out war of a whole lot of nothing. None of us actually know.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 23/02/2020 17:28

And where are you sitting?

Samcro · 23/02/2020 17:29

How sad that thread has just become like the others. It was nice to have somewhere that was a bit different.
Think i will give up now, i don't feel comfortable being part of this online bullying.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 23/02/2020 17:30

Or a whole lot of nothing...I wish we could edit.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 23/02/2020 17:31

I agree, it is sad Samcro.

Encyclo · 23/02/2020 17:34

I'm sorry to see that all the anti-Meghan crowd have made it over here. This was supposed to be a thread for people that are actually happy for them.

drina27 · 23/02/2020 17:39

They are living quietly and harming no-one.

You are kidding, right?

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 23/02/2020 17:40

I'm not kidding.

Encyclo · 23/02/2020 17:42

I don't see who they're harming, I see a family trying to do the right thing for their own safety and mental health. Unfortunately the torches and pitchforks are well and truly out now.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 23/02/2020 17:51

That's what I see too. It's also an opportunity for the press to put the boot in. People seem to love it. Not pleasant to watch it unfolding.

Encyclo · 23/02/2020 17:56

I find it very upsetting to watch. I think history will judge senior Royals for the ruthless way they've treated one of their own.

Encyclo · 23/02/2020 17:57

Sorry posted to soon...

Juxtaposed with the way they've supported PA who stands accused of disgusting behaviour

katiegoestoaldi · 23/02/2020 17:58

The next few weeks are going to be interesting when they reveal which causes they'll be working with. They'll be busy rebranding in the meantime, which could have been avoided if they'd worked things out instead of that statement that made it all sound like a fait accompli. It's not been well managed. I am worried for them, so much is riding on all of this and they've got off to such a messy start, it's not sending out the best image

katiegoestoaldi · 23/02/2020 18:01

I don't see any ruthlessness, the closest I can see is them dropping the bombshell statement then leaving the country. It looked like they were trying to strongarm the Queen

TheMustressMhor · 23/02/2020 18:04

It looked like they were trying to strongarm the Queen

Yes.

But HM had their measure and acted quickly.

H & M have had to backtrack and they have not come out of this well.
