Does anyone want a thread for people who are happy for Harry and Meghan?

Just seeing if there’s any interest. I think they have their faults but I think this may turn out to be a good thing long term. Anyone want to join in?

Hi.
Can I ask what do you mean by this?

My use of "cynical" means that I don't completely accept what I'm told. By anyone.

My use of motives means "actions that people take to achieve an end".

"Hi." to you too, btw.

SeasideChloe · 27/01/2020 23:39

What end/ends do you think she is trying to achieve?

I think DaveCoaches intended this to be a thread for "people who are happy for Harry and Meghan".

I respect that and, while following it, have only posted in a fairly neutral way.

I suggest you respect that too and, when someone has said they're "Meghan-sceptic"* (as I have), don't try to draw them into an argument.

There's the 14-threader for that.
This one should stay pleasant.

*Is that a new term?

SeasideChloe · 28/01/2020 00:04

I was asking genuine questions but if you'd rather not reply, no problem.

LaMarschallin · 28/01/2020 00:11

Thanks for understanding that I'd rather keep this thread for the positive motives for which it was started.

Aridane · 28/01/2020 00:12

Oh no, MNHQ have moved this thread to the dark side

HoldMyLobster · 28/01/2020 00:12

What ends?

1066vegan · 28/01/2020 05:20

There's no need to keep asking a pp about what they think MM's motives are. That's how this thread will get derailed and end up like the others.

This is a nice thread for people who - whether Royalist, Republican or usually uninterested and don't give a toss either way - are just pleased that a young couple who love each other have managed to get away from this nasty country and its toxic media.

Lweji · 28/01/2020 07:37

Yes, this is not a thread for "cynical about motives", except for those who are cynical about those who are "cynical about motives".
The amount of cynicism found online and on the media is utterly disgusting IMO. And largely unwarranted.
It reeks of how dare she.
If we scrutinised every acquaintance with this fine toothed comb and this amount of cynicism we'd not have any friends.
Maybe that's their problem. Wink

And I couldn't care less about them. But I heavily dislike orchestrated hate campaigns for puerile motives.

NurseButtercup · 28/01/2020 07:39

I read yesterday that Meghan will be doing an interview with Ellen very soon. I like the way that Ellen interview's and hopefully the interview will silence the naysayers.

Lweji · 28/01/2020 07:42

I was shocked to see that the MM thread had run to 14. Do people really have this much hate inside?

Roussette · 28/01/2020 07:48

LaMarschallin
Welcome and I respect your desire to put any cynicism of MM aside for the sake of this thread Smile

NurseButtercup I think hell will freeze over before that happens. If a huge amount of people can talk about furtive looks and coat flicking, there is absolutely no hope the naysayers will be silenced. The world's gone made I tell ye!

Anything MM does is just to be picked over. As I said when the press and some of the public ramped up the unwarranted criticism... this will never stop, she can't do right for doing wrong in some people's eyes. It's sad and has greatly contributed to them being in Canada now. And not the UK.

NurseButtercup · 28/01/2020 07:51

I think @Jenzenn and @phoenixrosehere are spot on....the H&M trolls and haters are suffering very badly from lifestyle envy

NurseButtercup · 28/01/2020 07:57

@Roussette

I know I know I know you're right...I'm trying to stay optimistic and put positive thoughts out into the universe.

I can already envisage the horrible commentary from Piers Morgan post the Ellen interview. I'm willing to put ££ that he'll invite H&M to an interview with him now that they're no longer senior royales.

Roussette · 28/01/2020 07:59

Lweji Yes unfortunately.
What gets to me is... at the end of any of the numerous threads there is talk about the new thread starting. Even when all is quiet like now. That to me means it's just a way of sticking the boot in.
It's like having ongoing threads on Victoria Beckham, Katie Price, the ones beginning with M, the Radfords. They would be zapped. And that's the point I made to MNHQ.

The current one I would love to be the last as all is quiet in Canada. Doubtful though.

Samcro · 28/01/2020 08:33

i do hope this thread isn't going to turn in to a woman hating thread like the others.
i am moaning today as I believe yesterday mn hq deleted a thread about a man who died and said it wan't in the spirit.
yet all the threads slagging of a woman (coat flicking ffs) are left....anyway thanks thats me moaned.

Hopefully now PA stuff is in the news he will get his turn and PH&M will get a break.

Aridane · 28/01/2020 08:37

Coat flicking? Coat flicking??

In addition to my “I am happy for Meghan” posts earlier in this thread - and on a more trivial note - I would like to say that I am happy for Meghan that she has nice clothes (and coats! Grin ) and carries off a look of effortless style and elegance with panache

Buggedandconfused · 28/01/2020 08:52

I’m so relieved to not see much about H & M in the press now. And very pleased to see Andrew back in the spotlight as he should be.

Roussette · 28/01/2020 09:05

Oh yes Aridane... you'll have to go over to t'other thread to see... it's such an embarrassing nothing I really can't be bothered to write about it Grin

LaMarschallin · 28/01/2020 09:21

Thanks.

Although, I suspect that - as someone with a foot in both camps - I'll eventually end up doing the splits

Roussette · 28/01/2020 09:34

Kudos for even attempting the splits!

SeasideChloe · 28/01/2020 09:37

The Ellen interview story is another DM fabrication, IMO. I think it's clickbait.

LaurieMarlow · 28/01/2020 10:02

The power the press have here is so dangerous.

They seem to be able to print what they like, citing bollocks like ‘palace sources’, with the sole intention of making them look bad.

Then criticise them for retaliating (or indeed expressing their discomfort).

Yet never once declaring their own interest here (I.e. the court case(s).

They’re trying to strong arm them into dropping the case. Much and I’d like to see them spared more pain, I hope they don’t. They’re doing an important thing in taking on this disgraceful entity.

I was v struck with this bit of the Rusbridger article.

But there are clues. Mirror Group (now Reach) had by July 2018 set aside more than £70m to settle phone-hacking claims without risking any of them getting to court. The BBC reported last year that the Murdoch titles had paid out an astonishing £400m in damages and calculated that the total bill for the two companies could eventually reach £1bn.

PortiaCastis · 28/01/2020 10:11

Exactly but even more worrying are the folk that believe all the rubbish from "a source" or "an insider" as soon as I see those words I think ah yes even more bollocks and stop reading, if it is true the source would not be anonymous

SeasideChloe · 28/01/2020 11:08

@LaurieMarlow
Exactly. Everything that the papers involved publish has to be viewed through that prism.

@PortiaCastis
Anonymous sources are the scourges of our times. If it's true, name the person who told you. Otherwise shut up.
