Just seeing if there’s any interest. I think they have their faults but I think this may turn out to be a good thing long term. Anyone want to join in?

Di-do for short

SeasideChloe · 26/01/2020 22:45

The only time I smiled when skimming through the nasty threads was when people speculated about how Harry and Meghan would make a living after being "cast out" as they put it. They literally couldn't imagine what a couple with their CVs and contacts might do and really seemed to think H&M would be selling Sussex Royal branded mugs and tea towels out of the back of a van at a car boot sale. When they weren't auctioning off paparazzi photos or hosting a tacky game show, of course.

Views shaped by the reports they read about reality TV stars, I suppose.

SeasideChloe · 26/01/2020 22:47

@PoriaCastis
I read that as Dildo, for a second.

Grin
JulietJanuary · 26/01/2020 22:59

You might well suppose that Seaside.

Someone even suggested they needed to seek compo from the Royal Family as Harry has been left unskilled for life in the outside world.

4% interest in a bank account

£1.36 million annual
£3,700 daily

Please please please tell me the bank account that pays 4%

Cerseirys · 27/01/2020 07:58

Meghan seems nothing if not resourceful. In fact if the royals were abolished tomorrow then she (and possibly Sophie Wessex) might be the only ones with any experience of dealing with the outside world! I think Harry will be ok...

Roussette · 27/01/2020 08:20

Aridane I agree! I put some savings in a 2 year fixed rate bond (can't touch it, can't draw on it etc) and Martyn Lewis pointed me to one that paid 1.86%.
If I could put it in for 5 years I could've got 2.3% but I couldn't risk that as might well need it.
I want 4%!

That Thomas Markle really is a piece of work isn't he... I couldn't watch it because the vile Piers was interviewing. He's a nasty bully who wants a pay off. I bet Piers was loving stoking the fire

PortiaCastis · 27/01/2020 08:58

I wouldn't say Harry was left unskilled for the outside world, he's a trained helicopter pilot and soldier for starters plus he's world famous and good at public speaking plus he will always be Prince Charles son and he has a beautiful wife who he clearly adores although her father is a leeching piece of scum who will be the architect of his own pitiful downfall and serves him right.

Yes... I agree. I do wonder what some people actually want. They've gone, they've given up everything those that hated them wanted, they're paying back Frogmore Cottage (no idea why, it was going to be done up anyway). What more can they do to get some people accepting them?

The only matter left is security but personally I think we should pay for that, former Prime Ministers continue to receive security so why shouldn't they. He will always be a member of the RF.

I love this as a name

Diana Doria Mountbatten-Windsor

NurseButtercup · 27/01/2020 09:16

I've just watched the Thomas Markle interview with Piers Morgan, I'm speechless. He is very clearly trying to manipulate a position for himself - Piers is so blinded in his scorn for Meghan that he's giving this man a platform to chat shit. And when he ended the interview by issuing a 30 day ultimatum for Harry or Meghan to get in touch, what planet is he on ugh...!

HelgaHere1 · 27/01/2020 09:30

Looking back I don't think it took that long for articles about Diana to Peter our after her death. Apparently putting a photo of her on the front page of a paper or mag raised sales by 20% - so the DM etc would resurrect her at every anniversary or excuse. Hopefully things will quieten here soon.
There will someone new to demonise soon.
JK Rowling? A highly successful sportswoman?

Notthebloodygym · 27/01/2020 09:51

What makes me sick is that the press hand wrung about Diana's death and what led up to it for years. There is no crap that won't pour from their mouths if it sells a paper. And I'm not even a royalist. I'm glad for them that they got out, and I think the racism and misogyny were disgusting. I said so in those other threads too, but they just aren't engaged in real debate.

I did like this article which I've seen linked elsewhere on mn:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/jan/19/there-is-a-reason-why-royals-demonised-but-wont-read-all-about-it-prince-harry-meghan-markle

PortiaCastis · 27/01/2020 10:07

Well I think the Duchess looks very slim so not sure how many more pounds of flesh there are to be had from her but on second thoughts her bones are already being picked by the low

SeasideChloe · 27/01/2020 10:42

Ultimately it is all about money and the culture wars. Meghan-bashing sells papers and drives internet traffic, and has the added benefit of destroying a symbol of the values they detest.

I really want her to win her court case and hope that part of the remedy which the court orders is a code of conduct, at least for that paper. They ruin so many lives with and smears, just to make a profit. Levenson 2 is clearly not going to happen any time soon, but a judgement like that would at least be one small blow struck for proper journalism.

And if substantial damages are awarded, I'd love her to give at least some of it to black Muslim feminist transgender charities, just to piss the haters off. She should start one specially.

rockingchaircandle · 27/01/2020 10:49

@Notthebloodygym thanks for that article! That's really clarified what I thought was happening, but I didn't realise about all the court cases. It's so shameful.

It's scary in terms of freedom of the press, and on a personal level, seeing your dad been given the chance to threaten you on TV by the man who's harassing you. Sad

Roussette · 27/01/2020 11:02

Yes, it's truly awful. OK he did a Channel5 interview but probably felt he didn't get enough exposure with that so agrees to GMB and the obsessive stalkery Piers. Way to go to build bridges with your daughter. Not.

Samcro · 27/01/2020 11:15

i would love to know why this awful man is given money and air time. he is showing the world what a terrible father he is. so glad I have missed all his interviews.

SeasideChloe · 27/01/2020 11:29

Thomas Markle is being used as part of the strategy to get the D&DoS to drop their cases or to make them Phyrric victories if they win. He is not a defendant in any of them and will not be asked to give evidence in the Mail on Sunday's defence in the copyright case (the only defence in that case is that the copyright owner gave permission for publication of the letter). The interviews are intended to embarrass Meghan and further damage her reputation.
But I think this particular plank of that strategy is backfiring.

GeraltOfRivia · 27/01/2020 12:29

"Diana Doria Mountbatten-Windsor"

Well it couldn't be Doria first. Then the shortening would be Dodi...

I

StarbucksSmarterSister · 27/01/2020 13:53

How many interviews is T Markle doing? What a bloody leech.

Encyclo · 27/01/2020 14:43

Can I join? I need some positivity in my life right now.

I am very much on their side and I can't believe the shite that's been flung at them, much of it by her own Father.
