Does anyone want a thread for people who are happy for Harry and Meghan?

Just seeing if there’s any interest. I think they have their faults but I think this may turn out to be a good thing long term. Anyone want to join in?

So we now have to hide threads, even if they are not in the spirit of MN?

Just ignore them... even if they are vitriolic, just don't look at it... rightio....

peridito · 22/01/2020 12:59

I know Roussette ,if I see something i think is wrong I like to try and do something about it .

But MN agrees with the posters on those threads who if you put another pov or have the temerity to say that some posts seem unduly critical/based on nothing tell you to go away .

Or in their parlance f**k off ,Plus brand you as someone trying to control the thread .

The approach just turns the whole thing into echo chambers where there is little debate or exchange of ideas . Which is not really want I want from a forum and does nothing to" help the conversation flow".

Roussette · 22/01/2020 13:05

MNHQ say they are actively modding the threads and this...
'We can also see that several comments are being assertively challenged on the thread'

Yes! That's us!!

I have challenged many a post. I've been told by some of the batshit posters 'don't come on here then'. 'Who do you think you are telling people what to post' and worse...

Frezia · 22/01/2020 13:08

Those threads are an echo chamber of malice. They radicalise each other with unkindness and fake news from blind gossip sites and twitter trolls. And think they're endlessly clever and amusing by running the same tired unfunny jokes through all of the dozen threads. "Are you OK?" "Nobody asked me if I'm OK!" "My cats are OK"

FairyLightsAreMyCrack · 22/01/2020 13:09

Please do continue to report anything you see that you want us to take a look at - we're always happy to look in on threads. We try to keep an eye on them as they go but because posts aren't pre-moderated here it's very easy to miss things, so do feel free to hit the report button on anything you see that looks like it might break our talk guidelines.

The standard mumsnet copy-paste polite fuck off.

I have, on many occasions, tried to get @MNHQ to delete inaccurate and misleading posts on some extremely important subjects. Obviously I don't expect them to fact check the entire site or censor opinions, but in some cases allowing misleading or blatantly untrue information to stay can be dangerous.

They will generally bow to the mob though, presumably because it keeps them in business.

Roussette · 22/01/2020 13:12

That is so wrong. They should delete if someone has drawn their attention to it

Di62 · 22/01/2020 13:17

Good luck to them.

FairyLightsAreMyCrack · 22/01/2020 13:18

It's very similar to a type of bullying called mobbing. It's absolutely fascinating that they can't see their own behaviour clearly.

MissSmith1 · 22/01/2020 13:20

I think MN has changed. the numbers of posters, as can be seen by how fast the threads move, must have gone up hugely. And how many troll like stirrers are on the site on a daily basis, we have no clue. Assuming it is nasty or angry Mums posting comments is probably way off the mark.

Sadly it isn't the fun it used to be but there are still some good threads. I don't see what can be done about it.

FairyLightsAreMyCrack · 22/01/2020 13:22

They actually said something like 'we feel the best way to challenge this is on the boards', presumably by me because they did sod all!

Basically they've said deal with it yourself, so I have to conclude they don't mind that they are contributing to things like racism, homophobia and stigmatisation of sex workers- things that can be dangerous in a very real way. If they don't care about that why would they care about mass bullying?

Buggedandconfused · 22/01/2020 13:45

Exactly!!

Does something really tragic have to happen before @mnhq stops these repugnant gang bullying threads??

They stopped every single Caroline Flack thread, due to the pending court case.

MM has pending court cases too! @mhhq what is the difference here? You are coming across as casually RACIST by allowing the bashing of MM.

Aridane · 22/01/2020 13:52

Is it worth posting something in Site Stuff?

SecretWitch · 22/01/2020 13:58

I am shocked and saddened that MN allows truly vile comments about a young mother to stand.

I really do believe the most vitriolic posts are made by unhinged people. The disguised and not so disguised racism is the most upsetting to me.

Roussette · 22/01/2020 14:05

They actually said something like 'we feel the best way to challenge this is on the boards', presumably by me because they did sod all!

Gosh. Well that echoes the reply I got... 'we can see that several comments are being assertively challenged on the thread'.

What does that mean, I'm not a moderator, am I? Is MN just about self policing now then?

I replied ' and yes I am assertively challenging and it's very wearing'.

Roussette · 22/01/2020 14:08

Is it worth posting something in Site Stuff?

A link to this thread might not go amiss.

The thing is... people will leave. The sane normal ones who have been on here forever like me don't like it. And MN will be left with trolls and PBP who get round the ISP recognition with VPNs or whatever they're called

I'm sounding very techy, I'm not! I just know you can disguise your ISP!

FairyLightsAreMyCrack · 22/01/2020 14:46

It's a ridiculous non-response which makes me think they don't really see why these posts are so problematic. I agree it's beyond ridiculous for them to expect other posters to challenge it when they have clearly seen that the bullying behaviour being challenged then gets directed at those posters.

FairyLightsAreMyCrack · 22/01/2020 14:54

Perhaps the answer is to have a few new site sections to keep them out of the way;

-Bullies Corner
-AIAR (Am I a racist?)
-Conspiracy Theories
-Feminism (but only for women exactly like me and with my life experiences)

SouthWestmom · 22/01/2020 15:03

I was initially interested in the story and definitely posted on the first thread. Then you realise they've become rather unpleasant and leave. Or don't.

It happened with the threads about the very ill children - those whose parents were fighting the courts. Endless threads starting with lots of posters and finishing with weird obsessives.

Samcro · 22/01/2020 15:18

@Noeuf soglad you mentioned that, I was banned around that time for complaining about the threads. like now. you could have only one opinion or you were shouted down.
I hope it all goes quieter soon. although I am interested on how things will be in the future. will Will have to actually work now? and so on.
but really hope all the hate dies down(although doubt it as MM despicable dad is doing some interview I think)

Bluerussian · 22/01/2020 15:31

Goodness me, @Bluerussian - what a piece of work that article is!
......
You're not wrong! He's a seriously weird bloke (if it is a bloke, identity kept secret). Has a following though - there's no accounting for taste.

Roussette · 22/01/2020 15:37

Do posters get banned for reporting posts if they feel they are unfair and the comments are unpleasant??

SouthWestmom · 22/01/2020 15:54

Yes they were weird. Along with the 'shippers' 😂

I'm nosy interested in M and H a bit but I don't hate any of them so don't want to post in threads hoping they spilt up, nicknaming their baby, analysing what time they instagrammed something. I took a look recently and it's just too much.

soberfabulous · 22/01/2020 16:02

I also reported the thread and got the same anodyne response.

Could it be that @mnhq are Meghan and Harry bashers too? I can't think of any other reason to let this carry on.

PortiaCastis · 22/01/2020 16:50

Are there laws re: online hate speech, is it a crime ?

Samcro · 22/01/2020 17:10

Rousette, it was a couple of years ago, and to be fair it seems to have changed now. Well it must have as they let me back lol
