Does anyone want a thread for people who are happy for Harry and Meghan?

Just seeing if there’s any interest. I think they have their faults but I think this may turn out to be a good thing long term. Anyone want to join in?

@DisinterestedParty isn’t that the truth!

I am constantly having to hide all the Meghan bashing threads at the moment, they make me sick to the stomach. I think @mnhq are assisting casual racism and bullying by allowing them. I actually am beginning to wonder if they aren’t getting some kind of pay off from Piers Morgan!

Roussette · 22/01/2020 09:41

When I say 11 or 12 threads, I mean the ones that are now up to number 11 or whatever. Bit like Strictly or Britains Got Talent. Except they are about a couple with a baby.

smellyfootballboots · 22/01/2020 09:42

Umm.. I wish them well but MM calling the paps 3 times in a week and then Harry complaining about it is a bit ripe

Roussette · 22/01/2020 09:44

'some assumption that is just not true, some posters on there talk like they know stuff. They don't they just make shit up'

I rest my case

IpanemaGallina · 22/01/2020 09:45

I wish them well and I’m sorry they couldn’t make it work here but understand why it became an impossible situation.

Since that 2016 referendum, the country as a whole just seems much more hate-filled. You see that reflected on mn where posters feel more confident voicing nasty opinions.

Still lots of kindness and support on mn though Brew

MM has been criticised for smiling at the camera, and speculation exists as to whether she called them in.

I have to ask what would have been said if Kate M had found herself in a similar situation. Would people have suggested that she called them in? Would they have looked for negative interpretations of her smile? Or would they have said how gracious she was in the face of this intrusion?

This hounding of one individual is a disgrace.

PortiaCastis · 22/01/2020 09:54

If they'd called the paps then threatened to sue, the paps would be having a massive media vulturing field day wouldn't they now, a pound of flesh wouldn't cut it! Common sense clearly does not prevail does it !!!!!!
I was hoping the feeding frenzy on here would end today but I'm disappointed

@joyfullittlehippo I don't know why MN is allowing posts to stand that cite very dubious twitter accounts, tabloid speculation and Blind Gossip as sources of evidence for how Meghan thinks and what she's like etc.

An interesting tidbit is that the editor of the Sun, who threatened to go public with Harry and Meghan's plans before they announced them, is mates with the Cambridges' press secretary but haven forbid the sainted Cambridges have anything to do with "Megxit". Now I'm not saying they are but there are people on those threads convinced Meghan was behind the William affair stories and there's even less evidence for that!

Buggedandconfused · 22/01/2020 10:56

Christ can you obsessive weirdos really not permit one single non-bashing thread to stand without infecting it?

This ^^

There are PLENTY of MM bashing threads on @mnhq @smellyfootballboots. Why don’t you go join those with their equally implausible ‘factual’ knowledge of MM and what she is doing. In other words... go away!

Frezia · 22/01/2020 11:15

I read about the reporters lurking in the bushes with long range lenses trying to snap photos of INSIDE THEIR HOME. Christ what a horrifying thought.

Bluerussian · 22/01/2020 11:20

Rousette I'm all for positivity and nice threads. I just wonder if MN has now become a mirror of the hate and nastiness that is creeping in, in the country since Brexit and the last election.
.......
Yes!

Cop a look at this ridiculous effort:

Aridane · 22/01/2020 11:49

Goodness me, @Bluerussian - what a piece of work that article is!

Geoffreythecat · 22/01/2020 11:54

Umm.. I wish them well but MM calling the paps 3 times in a week and then Harry complaining about it is a bit ripe

I think you probably belong on the other threads. You know, the ones where they make stuff up and come up with wild assumptions and scenarios.

Aridane · 22/01/2020 11:57

@joyfullittlehippo - how do you know that (multiple accounts etc)? And are you referring to mumsnet in particular or social media more generally?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 22/01/2020 12:00

What a vile article.

This caught my eye though, referring to Samantha Markle:

"She has also criticised RMM for failing to provide any emotional or financial support to her and RMM’s father once RMM became famous. "

It's quite obvious it's all about money for those two. No wonder she wants nothing to do with them.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 22/01/2020 12:00

Was going to say its started reminding me of the one direction posters and alfies army ones

Vicious and mad as a box of frogs some of them

StarbucksSmarterSister · 22/01/2020 12:02

I wish them well but MM calling the paps 3 times in a week

How do you know this? Did she tell you?

There is not a shred of evidence she did this!

Geoffreythecat · 22/01/2020 12:09

I think MN have got their moderation horribly wrong on those threads. There's some awful stuff been allowed to stand.

I reported a post which included the following:

'he's clearly controlled by Meghan'

'no doubt she will try and live off her son's blood line'

'she clearly has no regard for the royal family'

The response from MN:

We're sure you understand that since Harry and Meghan are featuring so heavily in the news right now, we expect in turn an increase in the number of threads about them. In truth we don't feel it's a good idea to censor these discussions entirely - and it's reasonable that MNers want to talk about it.
We do expect these threads to fall within our Talk Guidelines and have already removed several posts which many of our users felt were motivated by racial prejudice and/or misogyny. We can see there's been challenging of some of the assumptions on threads which is great, and you can also report individual posts to us if you think they break our guidelines - we'll always take a look. We hope you'll stick with us.

So in other words, crack on, it's fine to say that. MN really need to take a long hard look at the treatment of Meghan online, and reconsider some of those threads. Removing vicious comments which clearly break guidelines is not censorship, it's good moderation. And I say all this as a republican!

Disgusting @mnhq

You are passively propagating hatred against MM.

Cerseirys · 22/01/2020 12:23

I got exactly the same response from MNHQ so it's clearly a copy and paste job. I also know exactly who the persistent troll was too (doesn't exactly smell of Roses) - I reported them and said they were the same as their previous username. HQ asked me how I knew so I told them but I never heard back and the troll continued to spout bile of various threads.

Roussette · 22/01/2020 12:26

Geoffreythecat

I reported the baby sling thread, the whole of it. I set out politely why I thought it should not be there. It was a long explanation as to why I felt this.

All I got back was this

Hi Roussette, and thanks for your comments.
Please do report any post that breaks our guidelines and we'll take a look.
Best,

You did better than me!

The thing is... it's the whole of it. Not just individual posts but the whole thread. MNHQ have not covered themselves in glory here.

peridito · 22/01/2020 12:35

I do honestly think that the latest in the nos 1 to11 or whatever are a bit toned down now .

Yes MNHQ are obvs just sending a standard reply ,which is ok sometimes .

I got this
Yes, hopefully the deletions and other measures we're taking are helping to get these threads back on track. Obviously it's something people will want to discuss but we're keen to keep these threads pleasant. Please do continue to report anything you see that you want us to take a look at - we're always happy to look in on threads. We try to keep an eye on them as they go but because posts aren't pre-moderated here it's very easy to miss things, so do feel free to hit the report button on anything you see that looks like it might break our talk guidelines.

Alternatively, if it's all just getting a bit much, you can always hide a thread so you aren't faced with it every time you open Mumsnet

I wonder what the "other measures" are .More popping on every now and then with a message not to break Talk Guidelines might help .

And of course if they don't normally pre moderate then I think where they are getting a number of reports they should then keep an eye on the thread . Otherwise it's left to us to moderate ..
