Does anyone want a thread for people who are happy for Harry and Meghan?

Just seeing if there’s any interest. I think they have their faults but I think this may turn out to be a good thing long term. Anyone want to join in?

Here you go Dunedin

www.mumsnet.com/info/netiquette

peridito · 21/01/2020 21:25

They are right at the bottom of the page ,though it might display differently on different devices .

DunedinHeights · 21/01/2020 21:38

Thanks Portia and peridito, found them. So one of the guidelines is "no deliberately inflammatory behaviour." Hmm

Cerseirys · 21/01/2020 21:40

I think the latest other thread has been deleted.

AuntieStella · 21/01/2020 21:43

Which other thread?

Part 11 of the long running thread is still there and going strong

sickandtiredofsick · 21/01/2020 21:47

The royal family as far as I’m concerned should be most proud of Prince Harry above any other member of the family. He’s shown something unique in that he is genuinely selfless and has given up a lot for his family. I think his mum would be very proud
I really believe Meghan tried her best to fit in here and he saw she was struggling and so he made a choice.

I predict they’ll do a lot of good but I suspect a lot of it will be done behind closed doors and privately as they seem genuinely kind not just doing things for publicity

DunedinHeights · 21/01/2020 21:53

It's sad what has happened to this site. I joined many years ago for the feminism. It looks like I'll be leaving because of the misogyny. Sad

PortiaCastis · 21/01/2020 22:07

That's awful Dunedin I do agree the site's gone to shite though, it's reputation is being diminished by the day which is a damn shame because it was ok

HoldMyLobster · 21/01/2020 23:26

I see there's a new thread where people are asserting with great confidence that MM could not possibly breastfeed her son, among other things.

I mean. Doesn't there come a point where you admit that you just don't really know?

Zipadeedoodah · 22/01/2020 01:37

What is great is that we have this thread which actually restores my faith a little bit that there are good women out there ! Please do keep it going and perhaps in the future a thread which is positive rather than all the hate filled vitriol out there ! Thank you ! Feel so much better knowing there's kind hearts around

DunedinHeights · 22/01/2020 02:04

Zipadeedoodah, I agree. Right now this thread is about the only thing that is keeping me on MN. Smile

Zipadeedoodah · 22/01/2020 06:10

@DunedinHeights hope we can have a regular corner like this for some positivity !!

RuffleCrow · 22/01/2020 06:37

Agree @DunedinHeights.

The main problem is it's impossible to know how many men have joined the site in recent years specifically to ram misogyny down the throats of uppity women with impunity because we have absolutely no way of identifying them besides the content of their posts. It's 99% habit that keeps me coming back here but tbh i miss they days when the site had a clear mission and purpose.

GeraltOfRivia · 22/01/2020 06:52

I have just returned from a 6 month break from Mumsnet. The feminist / trans threads just broke my desire to be here. A google search about something for my dog brought me here again I don't know how long I'll be staying though. The tone in so many places on the site is so angry.

This thread is great and I like the doghouse 😂

meditrina · 22/01/2020 07:09

well thus thread has completely diverted from its actual topif, hasn't it?

Pity that a thread that was meant to be the happy thread ended up a butch fest about other MNetters and the site as a whole.

Which is, in its way, far more telling about what MNetters think of the couple than anything on the much-decried, but actually very wide-ranging and on-topic other threads.

Yes, I know I'll now get much shouted at for expressing disappointment with how this thread has turned, and probably be accused of being an MRA for attempting to silence women and being unaware of how the internet works, and how I can't dictate how a thread goes. And that includes posting my thoughts about it.

Lweji · 22/01/2020 07:35

I don't particularly care or like any of them, but I'm fed up of the MM bashing threads, and have been saying so in a the very few I happen to catch and bother to post on.

I think it makes sense for him to bow out of the royal family core. He's now very down the line of succession and the media interest they are attracting is ridiculous.

Aridane · 22/01/2020 07:42

@GeraltOfRivia - I hear you

MissSmith1 · 22/01/2020 07:51

I should come off MN. For a while anyway. I wouldn't buy a Daily Mail - it can be a bit like that with too many posts winding me up. What to do instead - hmmmmmmm.

Buggedandconfused · 22/01/2020 08:14

I’m sick of the MM bashing threads too on MN. I reported one and got a really crappy reply from MN about why they should be allowed.

Really changed my view of MN and feel maybe they are casually racist actually!

Inkanta · 22/01/2020 08:31

I am pleased to know Harry has now joined Meghan and his baby in Canada. Well done lad. All the best to them now.

DisinterestedParty · 22/01/2020 08:49

@Buggedandconfused Join any thread about racism and you will see thousands of white women lining up to tell you the thousands of ways in which they are not racist while revealing extreme racial biases.

I don't even post on them anymore, it's too frustrating.

DaveCoaches · 22/01/2020 08:57

The moderation on MN is all over the shop at the minute.

I thought this thread would run to a page or two so I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Thank you everyone!

rockingchaircandle · 22/01/2020 09:29

I think that this is still a happy thread. It makes me happy to see that many people think it's wrong to make obsessive vile/racists comments about people. The MM addicts seem very proud of themselves though. Minutely analysing a baby carrier's straps, and pulling apart someone's character and mental health is a right laugh?!

Roussette · 22/01/2020 09:34

I'm all for positivity and nice threads. I just wonder if MN has now become a mirror of the hate and nastiness that is creeping in, in the country since Brexit and the last election.

I get what you're saying in a way. There is not getting away with the fact that on this thread, in trying to be positive towards H&M, its not going to touch on the 11 or is it 12 threads running about them at the moment.

Yes, I agree there are other topics on it. Yes, I agree there is a camaraderie going on. But at its heart, they are there to criticise MM. On every page there is something nasty said about her, some assumption that is just not true, some posters on there talk like they know stuff. They don't they just make shit up.

As far as bashing MNHQ, I have reported the baby sling one again. Because.....sigh.... it really is not in the spirit of MNHQ. And I reported it in much stronger terms, not that it will get me anywhere.
