Harry and Meghan Resigning (Act 6 Scene 2) Is Everyone Okay?

This is Thread Eight in a series which I did not imagine would last more than one.

Meghan's friends are now writing on social media that she has been fortunate to "escape the clutches" of the Royal Family.

We, who care enough for the Queen that we are appalled by Meghan's blatant disrespect for the Crown (and the family which embraced her) are still reeling as we go from revelation to revelation. This bizarre and unprecedented situation has unfolded over a period of just eight days.

We are now beginning to see what Meghan's likely agenda was. It seems that abandoning the UK was her plan even prior to the wedding - a wedding which cost the British people £20,000,000.

Not many people actually begrudged paying that £20,000,000. But some were prescient enough to say that the marriage would not last and that Meghan would abandon this country once she had a child.

She has. She has fulfilled those prognostications amply.

It was just rather...quicker than perhaps we had imagined...…. and a good deal more brutal. Cries of "racism" have abounded - cries which are simply not justified.

What will happen next? Meghan has gone to Canada, a country which does not seem particularly keen to foot the huge bill for security which her presence requires. She is dropping in on charities for disadvantaged women, almost unannounced, without the backing or knowledge of Buckingham Palace. It is cringeworthy and embarrassing in the extreme.

Prince Harry seems to be lost in the maelstrom of public opinion. What will happen next? Will Meghan announce a second pregnancy?

And is the RF okay?

Just a joke or reflection of what their friends think?

I saw it, SpanishLady, and it clearly contained coded references that would only mean anything to a select circle but the ones who responded thought it was "brilliant" and a very accurate assessment of what was going on.

Very shortly after, it was deleted and she refused to comment, other than - as you say - commenting that she would be in trouble.

It indicated to me that she felt comfortable saying what she said because it was a view widely shared among her social circle but at the same time, she had had enough of H&M - and of MM in particular.

I'm wondering what on earth Harry thinks he is going to gain in terms of personal relationships. He's distancing himself from his own family in the most public and hurtful way and there's been what appears to be a scorched earth policy with regard to lifelong friendships since his marriage.

phpolly · 17/01/2020 15:44

Today I'm feeling a bit bad about disliking them both (H&M) so much. It seems wrong to loathe people I've never met. But here we are.
And I'm still obsessed. So maybe I'm not OK??
Btw, in my experience peppermint tea cures a wide variety of ailments.

Rose Astor is firmly part of the turnip toff set and therefore W&Ks circle.

I think it’s quite amusing and indicative of what they are all thinking!

Andylion · 17/01/2020 15:52

Re: the refuge:
It was so good of her to visit us in view of the weather conditions

It sounds like they are trying to come uip with something nice to say.

queenofarles · 17/01/2020 15:54

Rose Astor is firmly part of the turnip toff set and therefore W&Ks circle. perhaps Kate or Will asked her take it down? They wouldn’t want the link, I just thought it was nothing but banter?
Like the whole conscious uncoupling thing? Everyone used that phrase for a while.

AutumnRose1 · 17/01/2020 15:54

Morning “ With Brexit just a few weeks ahead, was it really necessary to create another confusion”

Do you think people are genuinely worked up about resignation of the sixth in line to the throne?

I thought most of us were here for the lolz

Speaking of which, I didn’t see it on other threads. Is the “are you okay” thing like a Trump derangement syndrome joke?

katiegoestoaldi · 17/01/2020 15:59

Just checking in to let you know I'm not ok. I'm not thriving, just surviving

40th birthday today. Getting lots of love and attention from family and friends but it's not enough. I hear Canada is nice this time of year though

GoFiguire · 17/01/2020 15:59

Please send that email as per catherine to Piers. I want him to read it out on GMB Grin

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 17/01/2020 16:20

I've been reading about the devalue, discard phase in relation to my ex husband. This rang a few bells.

"the person with narcissism may decide that the target has lost his or her luster and is tarnished—no longer the “perfect partner” to fluff the ego feathers. Inevitably, the discarding occurs when the person with narcissism either disappears or orchestrates his or her own abandonment "

Meghan has managed to do it a whole country. Almost impressive really. And she's very pleased with herself for it too, hence all the grinning solo visits and airport trips.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 17/01/2020 16:23

Also, anyone seen what Laurence Fox had to say on the matter on Question Time?

I've decided to offer my services to fill the void left by H and M.
I will happily be Duchess of somewhere-ideally I'd like Derbyshire but would settle for any of the other counties.
I would enjoy opening community centres and things.
I'd be firm friends with Kate.
I would happily accept the clothes.
I would ensure my hair was neat at all times with the help of a hairdresser.
I draw the line at Frogmore cottage though. It's a Castle or palace for me, or bust. I'd like Hever or Leeds castle, or Chatsworth House-the crown would need to buy them back off the National trust, but I would be worth it.

Just sending the email now...when do you think I will hear back?

TheMustressMhor · 17/01/2020 16:24

Not just grinning solo trips.

Grinning solo trips while wearing baggy jumpers.

Not that there is anything wrong with baggy jumpers per se - but she would not have worn them if she was visiting anywhere as the Duchess of Sussex, representative of the Queen.

She really is sticking two fingers up to the Monarchy.

Interesting how she's back to wearing clothes from when she was in Suits. You'd almost think she wants to completely erase the time since then till now and for everyone to forget she was ever part of the royal family at all wouldn't you?

OVienna · 17/01/2020 16:29

MurrayTheMonk
Why bother with an email? What is to stop you from setting up a website laying it all out and then hiring Sunshine Sachs to do your PR to promote the new venture. I'm sure people will play along.

In that vein: Is H&M an Emperor's New Clothes situation? That term - it's a bit like Red Herring - took a while for me to totally geddit.

I'm not sure she's sticking up two to the royal family. This is just such an odd situation all around. Hope she's not grinning cause they're getting all they want. I guess with the staff exit from Frogmore, they're not getting that. Is it still on the website????

SunsetBoulevard3 · 17/01/2020 16:30

It will be sickening if she does does pull this off. If she builds a lucrative career trading off her status as a Royal without doing any duties it makes a mockery of what the eat of the family are doing.
Why should W and K continue to do what they do if they can give it all up to live in the Seychelles at the tax payers expense? It’s absolutely ridiculous.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 17/01/2020 16:30

Rest not eat!!

yolofish · 17/01/2020 16:31

Dear Catherine. Dear, dear Catherine. I am thinking of you and sending you spiritual peppermint tea in order that you may not just survive, but THRIVE. Yours ever (or maybe not?) Megzie.

DeRigueurMortis · 17/01/2020 16:34

M needs to tell her friends who are speaking to the press about how she can "breathe" and is relived to be free of the "toxic RF" to STFU.

The RF is apparently appalling but H&M are more than happy to remain part of it and let PC fund them to the tune of £2m plus a year - yes as a FIL PC sounds awful Hmm.

They keep going from one PR blunder to another.

The way in which the announcement was made, the cringeworthy statements on their website (along with cake and eat it demands), followed by these "private impromptu" engagements (about which the press have obviously been tipped off and then putting them on Instagram) all smug smiles whilst creating chaos and now friends fanning the flames further whilst the RF have done everything possible to de-escalate the situation just beggars belief.

They couldn't possibly have handled this worse.

I can only imagine that they have circled the wagons so tightly that they just can't see and won't listen to anyone talking any sense.

I feel they think that the response in the U.K. would have been huge sympathy/support but how they have gone about this (as should have been blatantly predictable) has just left the public feeling a huge amount of distaste at their antics.

Likewise in Canada, rather than a outpouring of "love" there seems to be a rather skeptical response at best (fine come here but don't expect us to foot the bill) and downright anger at being used as a staging post for their US aspirations.

What's particularly telling is the wall of silence from all their celebrity pals. These are people adept in the power of social media and none of them are endorsing H&M because they (unlike the Sussexes) understand how unpopular they are currently and have no intention of allowing their brands to be polluted by association.

So this idea that the great/good/wealthy/woke will be forming a queue at H&M's door I can't see working out for them frankly.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/01/2020 16:40

Didn’t she famously give all her clothes away when she stepped up to royalty? Or did she keep a few Zara and GAP bits and pieces just in case?

SunsetBoulevard3 · 17/01/2020 16:41

Who has Harry got left? He’s isolated from his family and most of not all friends. He has no role now. He’ll be living in a foreign country on family money. Totally without purpose in his life apart from to be his wife’s accessory. His son will not know his fathers side of the family either.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/01/2020 16:44

That’s the playbook 10 move though isn’t it? Distance spouse from family and friends to maintain control...

LordOfTheWhys · 17/01/2020 16:44

I do wonder if she's wearing clothes from her Suits' days because she had them in storage in Canada and hasn't moved the rest of her wardrobe over yet.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/01/2020 16:45

If she wanted to pack up her stuff she had a houseful if staff to do it for her! Not much use for slinky posh frocks and heels in minus a million degrees..

JeansNTees · 17/01/2020 16:50

Frogmore staff being moved on - does this mean it will come up as a rental? Here's where to look if you fancy renting a most mysterious newly renovated home! www.windsorgreatpark.co.uk/en/live-and-work/windsor-great-park-property-lettings

Lordfrontpaw · 17/01/2020 16:51

Air B&B surely. They are trying to be financial independent after all.
