Harry and Meghan Resigning (Act 6 Scene 2) Is Everyone Okay?

This is Thread Eight in a series which I did not imagine would last more than one.

Meghan's friends are now writing on social media that she has been fortunate to "escape the clutches" of the Royal Family.

We, who care enough for the Queen that we are appalled by Meghan's blatant disrespect for the Crown (and the family which embraced her) are still reeling as we go from revelation to revelation. This bizarre and unprecedented situation has unfolded over a period of just eight days.

We are now beginning to see what Meghan's likely agenda was. It seems that abandoning the UK was her plan even prior to the wedding - a wedding which cost the British people £20,000,000.

Not many people actually begrudged paying that £20,000,000. But some were prescient enough to say that the marriage would not last and that Meghan would abandon this country once she had a child.

She has. She has fulfilled those prognostications amply.

It was just rather...quicker than perhaps we had imagined...…. and a good deal more brutal. Cries of "racism" have abounded - cries which are simply not justified.

What will happen next? Meghan has gone to Canada, a country which does not seem particularly keen to foot the huge bill for security which her presence requires. She is dropping in on charities for disadvantaged women, almost unannounced, without the backing or knowledge of Buckingham Palace. It is cringeworthy and embarrassing in the extreme.

Prince Harry seems to be lost in the maelstrom of public opinion. What will happen next? Will Meghan announce a second pregnancy?

And is the RF okay?

Maybe not pregnant also like we thought. That jumper is just one of those jumpers I think...

NaturalBornWoman · 17/01/2020 14:55

She didn't seem too reluctant to embrace the 'royal clothes '

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 17/01/2020 14:56

That's interesting @AcrossthePond55
But I don't quite understand why MM could continue calling herself DoS but PH would have to renouce his titles?

Why can't he keep them provided he doesn't use them for political gain also?

fallen121 · 17/01/2020 14:57

If I email Piers Morgan from my fake "this looks like I might be the Duchess's personal aide but if you look closely it's actually a complete send-up" gmail account he will probably see me for what I am and ignore me. He's not a credulous as that nice young man from the Daily Record yesterday.

On the other hand he could expose me. Then Meghan and I would have something in common. Apart from messy hair. The wrong publicity for all the right reasons! Wink

SingingLily · 17/01/2020 15:01

Just catching up after a morning at the hairdressers (and yes, they were talking about H&M, and yes, they all agreed it was absolutely fine to go off and live their life...just don't expect us to pay for it).

I do find it rather sad that several people have spoken out, like Rebecca English, who have known and worked alongside Harry for years and they all say the same thing - he fundamentally changed for the worse once he got with Meghan.

I think this is an interesting point. Journalists like Rebecca English have spent years trying to build up some kind of working relationship with a notoriously media-averse Harry, as the article clearly shows. Longstanding friends of his have also invested years and years of diligent discretion in order to maintain their friendships with him. Yet they are beginning to speak up - and in doing so, they know they are jettisoning any chance of a future relationship with him.

Why would they do that if they thought that at some point in the future, Harry might come back into the RF fold (even possibly without MM)?

I can only think of two reasons.

Either they are sacrificing years of effort for his greater good hoping that by speaking up they might help to bring him to his senses, or they already know beyond any doubt that the bridges have already been burned and he's not ever coming back.

"I wonder if the delay to Heathrow flights this morning because of an RAF flight was Harry going to Canada ?"

Probably true Fallen. But I reckon he might be momentarily thrown off if you write something like:

Dear Piers, now that I left the UK for good, I've been doing a lot of reflection and I realise how terribly rude I was not to follow up on our lovely date that day in the pub. I have regretted it ever since, you simply have no idea what a torture it has been.....

I reckon his ego is so large he'd buy it, at least initially. Just because a part of him would probably want to believe it.

eavers · 17/01/2020 15:05

I wonder what the relationship is like between Harry and Prince Charles. Harry is (or was) all smiles with him in public but I wonder whether Harry has a lot of pent up resentment/anger towards him for the whole Diana saga

I've always wondered that, what they really think and how they've reconciled their feelings. Whatever you can say about her, there is no doubt at all that the RF used her ill. She was 19 years old, and had no idea what the deal was.

AuntieStella · 17/01/2020 15:13

"I wonder when we will get details re: the deal the RF have offered H&M?"

They did say there wouid be an update at some point today (time unspecified - Sod's law probably during the time it takes me to type this). But there seems to,have been some discreet trailing suggesting that all it's going to say is that it could take some weeks/months for final deal

PH is, I've read somewhere, in Britain until some point next week as he has various meetings to attend (cancelling his diary, with apologies?)

I wonder where he would spend the weekend? With working Royals, such as the Tindalls (he gets in really well with them, doesn't he?)

eggandonion · 17/01/2020 15:14

I am learning a huge amount - hair, Canada, US and titles, and so much more. News in Ireland is currently upsetting or electiony, I'm sure they didn't intend to distract me. Will the York girls have to appear more to fill the void?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 17/01/2020 15:15

Either they are sacrificing years of effort for his greater good hoping that by speaking up they might help to bring him to his senses, or they already know beyond any doubt that the bridges have already been burned and he's not ever coming back.

I reckon it's closer to the latter or a combination of both.

What will Royal correspondants based in Britain do now that a large part of the revenue (stories based on Harry) will be lessened?

Will none be moved to Canada?

I can't imagine much stories being generated on behalf of Charles, Camilla, Eugenie et al. They're rather tame and boring.

One thing for sure H&M generated a lot of headlines and made the journos who follow them a bit of mint.

SingingLily · 17/01/2020 15:21

What will Royal correspondants based in Britain do now that a large part of the revenue (stories based on Harry) will be lessened?

The fallout over here will run and run, Catherine, so there'll be plenty to occupy them for the foreseeable. Add to that the DoE's advancing age, the PoW taking up more and more of HM's constitutional duties, the Cambridges and the Wessexes having to step up to fill the void left by Harry, the Yorks (all led them, in their own special way)...there will be no shortage of stories.

WinnieTheW0rm · 17/01/2020 15:21

"Will none be moved to Canada?"

Doubt any will go. The big outlets will use their stringers, possibly under direction of Royal correspondents (idc showbiz writers).

And of course will be getting loads directly from social media, which dies not require the expense of sending a staffer

SingingLily · 17/01/2020 15:22

Oops, all of them, not "all led them".

Told you I should have gone to Specsavers.

Not enough to stop him trousering the dosh.

AcrossthePond55 · 17/01/2020 15:28

@CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook

I have no idea, either. It's just specified in naturalization requirements that one must renounce any 'foreign titles'. I expect it's to do with 'renouncing' allegiance to any foreign government over allegiance to the US. But they allow now for dual citizenship, so who knows if that would really be enforced if it came right down to it.

IIRC the DoE had to renounce his foreign princely title to marry HM. But I don't know if that was to make him a British citizen or simply because he was marrying the Monarch.

I guess it's just a glitch in the Matrix. Or one set of laws conflicting with another.

SpanishLady · 17/01/2020 15:33

Have you seen Rose Astor (wife of friend of William and Harry) who posted something about stepping back from her boring tax return to do something more interesting.,,,since removed and journo saying she can't comment further as will get in trouble

Just a joke or reflection of what their friends think?

SpanishLady · 17/01/2020 15:35

Mmmm in daily mail 😷

TheMustressMhor · 17/01/2020 15:36

I saw that, and thought it was just joking (possibly even one-liner before hanging up, as the article was incredibly thin)

TheMustressMhor · 17/01/2020 15:37

@fallen121

I have finally succeeded in penetrating the mysteries of signing up for Instagram and have requested to follow you.

Now you just need to let me and I will be able to see your pictures of cats. This will render me okay.

I thought I'd lost these threads!
What I'd really love to happen is that we just ignore them from now on.

MorningCalm · 17/01/2020 15:41

I don't blame or hate anybody because the more I think about their decision, the more confused I become. I am just disappointed about the time the announcement was made. The country was already divided and there was lots of confusion over how it would affect the British people and European people living in the UK. With Brexit just a few weeks ahead, was it really necessary to create another confusion
