Re the engagement ring: I wear my dead MIL's engagement ring, and have done for 25 years.
It's not a ring I would choose, but it's DH's mother's ring and I wouldn't dream of changing it, other than having it resized to fit my fat finger. I think he'd be very hurt.

Rinoachicken, I am so so sorry. I lost my cat on Sunday (he was nearly 20) and I keep seeing his little face everywhere, so I know how heartbroken you are. Really sorry and sending you unMumsnetty hugs.

I seem to remember the pimped up ring being discussed at length on the style and beauty thread. Particularly that it was now exactly the same as her first engagement ring from Trevor.

Personally I'm not fussed about it, she prefers a more modern style, fine. I think it does show however a certain crassness, sorry. This was a ring made with stones of historical value. It needed to be timeless, as indeed it was in its original form. Now it looks like a very pretty costume piece.
