Previous thread

-Today Prince Harry is doing the draw for the Rugby League. (Not sure if it’s a public location but there’s bound to be a lot of press interest)

  • He has said he is going to stay in the UK for a bit longer to thrash out the details of “Megxit”
  • Meghan has been on a second surprise visit in Vancouver
  • Opinion coming out of Canada is that; not only do they not want to fund the Sussexes; having a member of the a Royal Family make Canada their permanent home is not acceptable.

• The heads want to slim down the monarchy - H&M are essentially attempting to take it global by monetising their titles they have said they want to be financially independent,.

• H&M want to step down - but make bank from their titles. as above

• H&M want to keep their titles - but not use them for any use in the UK (engagements etc). they have said nothing about keeping their titles ,Archie hasn't got one ,and nothing about their use in UK

• H&M want to split their time between UK and Canada - M has slated the UK and isn’t a citizen, neither are citizens in Canada. where has M slated the UK ,what has she said?

• H&M blame all of this on press intrusion - meanwhile, with no engagements, M ensures she makes the papers and both keep their Instagram updated. controling Instagram content does not = inviting Press intrusion

(Don’t even get me started on the climate justice whilst taking multiple planes crap)point taken

Why would they release a statement and set up an entire website with their ‘plans’ and answering preempted questions when their plans are utter shit and they seemingly have no idea what they’re doing? it;s only your opinion that their plans are rubbish

They could have dealt with this behind closed doors, reached an agreement, done a press release and disappeared for another 6 weeks while it all died down. agreed

In fairness I do believe Harry cares deeply about his charities, let's remember from his POV he's not abandoning anything and nothing about himself has changed. He's not seeing what everyone else/his family are seeing. He thinks he has a higher calling now and has to do what he has to do.

Didn't Meghan end her first marriage by posting the rings back to her husband? Do you think she might do it again?

I hope she uses a reputable courier if she does. Imagine the furore if the package got lost. Bearing in mind two of the diamonds on the engagement ring were Princess Diana's. You see the DHL advert where they are couriering a guitar to Brian Adams and I am always thinking, "No Bloody WAY" would I do that. Too risky.

I thought redesigning the engagement ring, after Harry took such care and trouble to design it, was a tad thoughtless.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/01/2020 17:09

I reckon she'd keep the ring. I would.

I am a lurker and have been thoroughly enjoying these threads, except no-one has asked me if I am OK.

Actually I have been on a fruit diet since Sunday and now have the squits as it happens, poor me

Does anyone else see any parallels between this case and the disasterous McCartney/Mills marriage?

SingingLily · 16/01/2020 17:10

Do you think she might do it again?

No. Diana's diamonds. Part of history.

Unlike the first set of rings.

Planeplane · 16/01/2020 17:11

How was Meghan not, on the day itself?

That was me talking about Kate. I didn't express myself well at all! It wasn't to say that Meghan wasn't classy, I thought the wedding was lovely and that she looked incredible, I was still v. impressed with her at that point. The point I was making really is that over the years Kate has endeared herself again and again so that looking back my memories of her wedding are that she must have a lovely relationship with her sister and be a nice person to be so happy for Pippa to look so fabulous. There hasn't been anything about Meghan that's made me think anything so nice about her.

MorningCalm · 16/01/2020 17:11

Would it be their new strategy to post videos rather than photos so that they can see the amount of views?

SingingLily · 16/01/2020 17:12

EleanorTopaz, that really is dedication.

Hope you're OK.

SerenDippitty · 16/01/2020 17:14

Harry must have been hurt.

SerenDippitty · 16/01/2020 17:15

About the ring I mean.

cathyandclare · 16/01/2020 17:15

The ring changes were pretty understated. The band was changed to a much thinner/finer band with small stones embedded, to exactly match a very fine eternity ring that appeared after Archie was born. The chunkier gold band may well not have looked right with the eternity ring as well.

The80sweregreat · 16/01/2020 17:18

I had a friend once who refused to invite some friends of her ( now ex) husband to their wedding. Caused a bit of a difficult situation as other friends were invited,
She just didn't like them. The ex just went along with it : didn't argue or say ' I want them there' or do anything. He burnt his bridges with everyone she didn't like and within a few years they got divorced anyway!
It happens all the time , especially with families falling out. There is always one who gets their own way and never sees the other people's point of view ever. It does become all about them and their needs and ' it's my way or the highway'.

AutumnCrow · 16/01/2020 17:19

I just looked at the Twitter account Torontopaper1. It's unhinged. I suspect Piers Morgan has been peeking at it rather too much, as it looks like he's lost his mind as well.

That being said, I'm absolutely fascinated by the royal politics of all this though, and the financial stuff, and the connections.

bohemia14 · 16/01/2020 17:20

Someone said that Meghan can't just go out and about as she wants. To some extent she can. A friend of mine sat next to Meghan and Harry in a restaurant last year. They were out for dinner, just the two of them (and their security at the next table). Friend said they looked very happy together. Other guests were asked by security to put their mobiles away and they happily obliged, which is the decent thing to do. It didn't make the papers and I'm sure there are other occasions when they do ordinary things and people/the press leave them alone.

MissEliza · 16/01/2020 17:20

Funny you all think the engagement ring thing is dreadful. I know at least two people who have done that. One was my MIL who actually did it twice. The first time was when she first got engaged and her dps felt the ring wasn't good enough, so added more diamonds. When she told me the story, she acted like that a totally normal thing to do.

MrsBrentford · 16/01/2020 17:24

I’m back - I either need to give up work or these threads - am quitting tomorrow, I’m taking a step back from my Senior role.

Are all the lurkers ok as no one has asked?

NumbersStation · 16/01/2020 17:25

@TheMustressMhor

Your cat’s fluff looks suspiciously similar to the fluff around MM’s Vancouver hood.

Have you put the puss on special duties to report MM’s movements?

I am not ok and may be hallucinating courtesy of fluey hot lemon drinks.

MarySidney · 16/01/2020 17:25

Charles seems like a very conflicted person at every stage of his life.

I think a lot of what Charles does is behind the scenes and not so glamorous, so it doesn't get so much attention. In the tv programme to mark his 70th, William (I think) said that he has always worked at his desk until late in the evening. It also showed the projects he has running in Scotland. And I think he's been serious about using good environmental principles in running Highgrove and the Duchy since long before most people got worked up about climate change.

The80sweregreat · 16/01/2020 17:29

I just want to step back from the laundry! It breeds and it hangs about and I have to deal with it and don't get me started about bras.
It's seriously affecting me and I'm not OK about any of it at ALL!

Bluebellforest1 · 16/01/2020 17:31

Lurked (and read avidly) since the 1st thread, not posted till now.....

MurrayTheMonk

I'm sure the RF do find some of their engagements boring as hell. Kate was talking about crocheting yesterday in Bradford. Hardly the most interesting thing to most people...

Well, how very dare you! Grin
After retiring from a 40 year professional career in the NHS, I now have a small business teachIng people to crochet.

DandyAndFine · 16/01/2020 17:32

@MrsBrentford I hope you’ll still be “collaborating” with your work and they’ll still be paying you though? Otherwise you’ve been had.

BrotherlyLove · 16/01/2020 17:33

I've delurked to make two comments and still nobody has asked if I'm ok.
It's been hard just surviving on this thread.

The80sweregreat · 16/01/2020 17:34

Anyone who can crochet has me fascinated as I can't even knit and crochet is much more complicated. ( looks it anyway)

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 16/01/2020 17:35

I suspect the reaction to the engagement ring thing is quite British. I think we would rather be dishonest than impolite.Grin
