Previous thread

-Today Prince Harry is doing the draw for the Rugby League. (Not sure if it’s a public location but there’s bound to be a lot of press interest)

  • He has said he is going to stay in the UK for a bit longer to thrash out the details of “Megxit”
  • Meghan has been on a second surprise visit in Vancouver
  • Opinion coming out of Canada is that; not only do they not want to fund the Sussexes; having a member of the a Royal Family make Canada their permanent home is not acceptable.

Just de-lurking to say that I'm ok, the dog is ok and so are the cats. I can't tell you their names though, unless you sign an NDA

So glad you're OK @Grinchly

I'm happy to sign the NDA[Smile]

SerenDippitty · 16/01/2020 15:17

I can imagine Meghan saying “I didn’t give up everything to live in a * cottage!”

MurrayTheMonk · 16/01/2020 15:17

I'm ok-no need to ask-I'm good
.
I wonder if she is pregnant again. It would excuse that quite horrible looking jumper. If what she has gained with this debacle is that she doesn't have to dress up anymore, then on this stylistic evidence I'd be popping that in the 'against' column for the decision making as well! (And yes I know that's bitchy but I care not at this stage-woman can afford a nicer jumper than that).

I manage care services. I've been musing on how I'd react if a sleb called up and said they wanted to visit the next day.
I think I'd want to know why and in what context?-if it was going to be ongoing involvement or just a one off? The staff (and me probs) would be excited but it would also be a colossal pain as it would disrupt the service users lives-and they wouldn't fully understand it- and we'd have to cater for them. I'd certainly need more than a days notice. How were these places she visited even found? Someone did a quick google? It's just a bit off isn't it?

I'll declare it now. If MM ever wants to visit a small care home or two in an unglamorous new town in southern England, she can bloody well stay away from either of mine! (Kate welcome obvs #cambridgechums)

Oldbutstillgotit · 16/01/2020 15:18

@ OVienna are you ok ? Sincere apologies for not asking sooner .

KayakingOnDown · 16/01/2020 15:23

Wondered why I was not seeing these threads on 'Active' then realised I'd chosen to hide the Royal family topic months if not years ago as I'm normally not interested in them!

But Meghan is a fascinating psychological case, the whole debacle is more gripping than a soap opera, and the entire case has major implications for the media (which I am very interested in as a former media studies teacher) and possibly also politics and even history.

diddl · 16/01/2020 15:26

"I'm wondering if the offer of Frogmore went down like a sink and was used to point out the disparity in how H was treated in relation to W&K"

But how many other GC were given a property on marriage?

They are so entitled, they really have no bloody clue of when they are well off!

TheMustressMhor · 16/01/2020 15:27

I have to confess that when I started the first thread on this topic I didn't imagine that we would still be talking about it seven threads later.

And there is no sign that the interest in H & M is abating.

Mominatrix · 16/01/2020 15:27

For the PP who commented by the outlook of her left-leaning friends on this matter, this article in the New York Times might explain it (although I think it is a stretch).

KayakingOnDown · 16/01/2020 15:28

Someone did a quick google? It's just a bit off isn't it?

The whole thing is so distasteful in every sense. Her every move now seems to lack class or dignity or respect. But I'm not sure, even if she was aware of this, that she would even care.

MeghanSussex · 16/01/2020 15:28

I was soooo inspired by Fallen121, that I just had to see if I could do this.

And I could!

Relax. Going back to my usual username now. Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/01/2020 15:30

Frogmore Cottage reminds me of a block of flats I used to live in
It was a particularly nasty block of flats

A PP on the last thread said it had "a nursing home vibe", which sounded about right to me

In the meantime, though, what's this tweet from Mulroney about "So many planes; this next month is going to hurt"? Who's supposed to be hurt ... her or the environment?

Because if the bunny rabbits are about to get it, surely environmentalist Meghan will have to cast her aside as well?

ajandjjmum · 16/01/2020 15:33

Lovely to have you here Meg! Now please open your eyes and ears, and follow some of the advice you'll get here.

scaryteacher · 16/01/2020 15:34

I don't think Mulroney is a looker at all; way too hard faced and filled lips. Too skinny by half as well. Brian's Chpra yes, Mulroney, no. Mulroney also does that Croydon facelift thing with her hair, yeuch.

Froq · 16/01/2020 15:35

@MeghanSussex you ok?

TheMustressMhor · 16/01/2020 15:35

..because that's The MumsNet Way.

SallyLovesCheese · 16/01/2020 15:35

De-lurking after several threads to ask if everyone is okay?

GracefulHippo · 16/01/2020 15:36

All PPs asking if everyone is ok makes me smile every time.

It does highlight a cultural difference though. My oldest DD is 10 and when we had a serious illness in the immediate family, she only told her very best friend (sworn to secrecy), no one else because she “wanted to get on with things and didn’t want anyone to feel sorry” for her. All support was given inside the family, I only found out later about her not telling friends in school. This may not be the best way of dealing with it, but very English I think (DH is English, I am not). It is a big difference to MM being filmed saying that “not many people asked” if she was ok and implying that things were difficult.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 16/01/2020 15:36

It's going to hurt the people who are pointing out the hypocrisy of constantly flying while engaging with environmental charities.

It's a very Il advised and flippant remark. I expect it will be deleted shortly.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 16/01/2020 15:38

Regardless of my personal views of MM’s motivations, I think raising awareness of such a cause is A Good Thing.

Of course. But not by a prolific flier, such as Meghan,

anomoony · 16/01/2020 15:39

A friend from the US last night didn't understand why I was cross with Harry

My friends from the US talk about Meghan like she was a Middle-Eastern princess rescued from captivity or something. "I'm so happy she got out!" and lots of talk about those racist Europeans. Confused

KayakingOnDown · 16/01/2020 15:40

The New York Times editorial linked to above is anti-British.

Interesting the 'woke' commentators that it chooses to quote.

This narrative is that Brexit Britain is narrow-minded, intolerant, racist and stuck in the past, clinging to imperial and antiquated traditions. Poor Meghan with her liberal, progressive values (appreciated only by a younger more open-minded generation) was suffocated within a stuffy, rigid institution and is escaping to freedom and acceptance elsewhere. Also, she was driven out by the mean British public and the even meaner, evil British press.

Hmm
SingingLily · 16/01/2020 15:42

Perfectly OK, thank you, Froq. You too, I hope?

Although don't think it's gone unnoticed that no one on this thread asked me if I was OK until I donned my princess disguise.

Grin
CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/01/2020 15:42

Omg Chopra as HB! Hell no way on earth that would have happened. Even I would have thought twice about that.

DandyAndFine · 16/01/2020 15:42

Of course. But not by a prolific flier, such as Meghan

You have a point naturally, but on balance I think even then. Because it’s highlighted the gender-based disparity even if met with what about the menz type comments.
