Heartbroken to say that Penelope had another funny turn/ seizure this morning. I thought the last one was a one off as she had made a full recovery very quickly. And I’d not seen any others. I took her to
the emergency vet after and She didn’t respond to midazolam. The vet thought it was likely to be a brain tumour. So did the only thing that could be done. She went very quickly and peacefully on my knee.

For such a tiny cat, with a daft long name, she was so sassy and sweet and affectionate. Just a lovely, lovely cat. Will miss your Pen.

Struggling with a quiet empty house. The rescue have co tasted me this morning asking if I can foster an 11 year old who’s shortly to be homeless due to relocating abroad. I’m away next month but they said they’d pay got a cat sitter. Arghh! Although she’s healthy I want to have a younger cat. And I’m worried about getting to attached.

Oh, a difficult one. It could be the thing you need to stop your house feeling empty, but if you do get attached and end up keeping her, that's another older cat potentially developing health conditions and reducing the time you have together. You've taken a lot of older cats, I can quite see why you would want a younger one.

Have you met the cat concerned yet? That might make your mind up for you.

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 14/09/2026 12:50

that's exactly my concern. The rescue also have a three year old that they said I could have who looks a darling. But she won’t be ready for a couple of months, which is fine as I’m happy to wait a while. But I don’t want to miss out on her because I’ve got the 11 year old. The three year old doesn’t like other cats apparently. So probably couldn’t overlap

Could you offer to foster the older girl just until the younger girl is ready? I know that doesn't remove the possibility of getting attached to the older girl!

Regarding any overlap, would you be able to separate them in the short term if needed.

I think as a first step meet the older girl and see how you feel about her, and how she responds to you.

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 14/09/2026 13:16

My main concern is leaving an unknown cat alone in my house for a week with a cat sitter. I always put them in the cattery if I was away for more than a couple of days. I could reinstate the cattery booking but that’s more upheaval for the cat.

My gut feeling? No to the foster. You’d be guilted into keeping her. And that’s more wear and tear on your wallet and your soul when the inevitable happens. Ypuve done your bit for a long time. Make a ‘selfish’ choice now and have a young and heathy cat

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 14/09/2026 18:57

The rescue are absolutely desperate as her owner is leaving the country on Sunday. So I don’t feel I have much choice. And to be fair to them I did agree before I’d thought it through properly. I just didn’t think it was as urgent as it is.

My gut feeling is also that this isn’t a good idea. However the next inmate is t going to be ready for 2-3 months. Which is fine.

But I do feel really sad about the whole thing. Despite hating having a silent empty house.

She’s apparently very healthy and has been well cared for.

You’ve already agreed to have the 11 year old? It wouldn’t be right to let them down now then. Poor kitty.

Dilbertian · 15/09/2026 07:05

So sorry to hear about your little queen 💔

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 15/09/2026 09:01

@DaysThatEndyes. There is no way I can let them down. There is nowhere for her to go. Hoping I don’t get too attached.

You can do this @InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing

Will we be getting pictures!?

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 15/09/2026 09:21

Toffee has had some interest so hopefully they will lead somewhere. I’ve seen some more photos and she’s not a cat she’s a lion. Not sure I can manage her coat!!

Oh my goodness Toddler- Toffee is gorgeous. You're going to fall in love, for sure.

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 15/09/2026 10:27

@Threetoedsloth she’s stunning but the next inmate is lined up although she’s not ready for a couple of months. She’s being treated for ringworm at the moment. Hoping to visit her soon.

Oh my Toffee, how gorgeous you are.

DustCloud · 15/09/2026 13:31

Can’t you keep Toffee rather than just foster?

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 15/09/2026 13:39

I would have kept her, but I already had my heart set on Suzi and she’s only 3. Toffee is 11. But healthy. They don’t know what Toffee is like with other cats. And Suzi hasn’t liked the other cats she’s been in contact with. But no would I if I had untreated ring work and lived in a body suit for two years! I would be open to having both but don’t want to have to rehome if it didn’t work out.
