......... as Gizmo and Linney almost reach their first anniversary, they reflect on the joys of living in the same hoose.

I made it by drawing over a lightly edited (to reduce the colours) photo of him on flosscross.com - other websites can do the same thing. You can set the photo to 50% opaqueness and then just go over it with your chosen palette and edit it to make it nice to stitch. I enjoy making the patterns as much as I enjoy stitching it tbh, though the stitching takes a lot longer of course.

Thank you. It sounds a bit complicated, but I'll have to have a look.

Breadcat24 · 22/06/2025 15:34

We have a ladder going up to a cat flap in a window for Breadcat. It is actually easier than one in a door as you just get a double gazed unit with a hole in it and then you can always put the old unit back in.

Herbie has a catflap so can come and go as he pleases.
As mentioned on a previous page of the thread, he does like to use the front window as an entrance if he can see us sitting there.
Yes Herbie, we've honestly nothing better to do than to let you in and out!
Loving the cross stitch Kettle @Esgaroth . We will all be keen to see the finished result.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 22/06/2025 16:03

I've taken a picture of the path, showing the window.

All our other cats, plus Linney and the NMCs, jump on to the windowsill via the top red step. They all have no trouble doing this and Gizmo has watched them. But he hasn't got the dexterity now.

Picture.
If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know.

I've suggested to Pa that we put a ladder up overnight only, and remove it in the morning, before the postie comes.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne Could you put a ladder against the wall, bottom bit about a foot after the gate, top bit behind the railing beside the windowsill? Might be worth rigging up a prototype to see if he could do it. That way it would not be in the way of the postie etc.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 22/06/2025 16:22

Just trying to be helpful 🤣

There isn't room. There's only just over an inch in that gap.
Believe me I've thought of it.

What if the top bit rested on the railing?

It would still get in the postie's way.

The only option would be to put it in place at night, and remove it before the postie comes.

And get rid of it altogether once Gizmo shuffles off this mortal coil.

Ach, I wasn't being unfeeling. I love Gizmo.

What I meant was that he's the only cat ever, since we moved to this house over eight years ago, who cannot jump up to the windowsill.

Could you wedge a folded up step ladder between the railing and the wall
something like this

No ideas for Gizmo's problem except a house swap...

Allergictoironing I hear you* *about there being no point to redecorating, the little beggers will just find something else to re-arrange more to their liking such as sofas or carpets 🙄

I realised today that last Friday was a year ago when The Stray had her emergency spay as she was a true stray and in heat (calling loud and clear and nonstop). We couldn't wait for any charities to get her so we paid, and kept her in until she healed. During that time DD fell too hard in love with her and couldn't let her go. So now I live in a wrecked house, with a bed stealer, who demands food every hour (on a diet) whilst DD goes to work with an unchanged life 🤔

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 22/06/2025 17:50

Meanwhile the object of the difficulty over the ladder washes himself without a care.

If you send me a clear photo of them (preferably against a neutral background) and say roughly what size you want, I can give it a go if you like! I honestly find it really fun 😁

That's really kind of you. I might take you up on it if I can't work out how to do it. I need to buy a new phone first, as mine is ancient and the camera's rubbish. If I try and take a photo of the two of them together Boris looks like a solid black blob with no features.

Kitty’s having a morning stretch (not for the calendar)

Incidentally, "the one who's pretending not to have a tail" was a blood donor, now retired. Cat blood cannot be stored like human blood, so he had to be called in when it was needed. Like Tony Hancock, he was a rare blood group as befits an Excellent Cat, so several other cats owe their lives to him. He was given a little superhero bandanna to wear (but don't ask for a photo, because he hated wearing it). He also received a blood transfusion when he had his accident, the vet sent us a photo of the cat that had saved him.
