......... as Gizmo and Linney almost reach their first anniversary, they reflect on the joys of living in the same hoose.

I probably would do that if I wasn't so broke! Apparently the fledglings can't get away because they can't fly yet, so cats can catch them easily. I think that's why it's only a problem at this time of year.

True, I shouldn't get ahead of myself as it's not nearly fledgling season here yet.

Thanks for the new thread @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne
(Edited from 'another' in case that sounded sarcastic. I have insomnia though I am tired, and my brain is protesting at being used at this time of night)

Has absence made the heart grow fonder @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats?
Do you keep in touch with Gizmo's ex-dad - is there a new improved Gizmo in his life now?

I think everyone realised that I was actually very fond of the little sod. 🤣
Yes - we are very much in touch with Gizmo's ex dad. He was asking after him a few days ago so I keep him updated and send him the odd photo from the threads.

As it's a new thread I thought I'd do a quick bedroom cat survey this morning.
Basil now sleeps on Mrs G's knitting bag - that really looks too small for him.
Karl at the foot of the bed on the floor.
Lenny the scruff on the windowsill and
Sybil in prime position on the bed.
They do seem to like all being in the same room as us.

Not a bad idea re: charity @Esgaroth.
It would make me feel a bit less guilty anyway.

EmpressaurusKitty · 11/05/2025 06:58

I suppose that’s one bonus of Kitty not going beyond the balcony - no bird access. I do feel a bit guilty sometimes about her not having an actual garden but she seems happy.

Sybil’s the boss then, Grumpy? Have any of the boys ever dared to get on the bed?

The others are allowed on the bed - but it's probably a bit hot for them at present. It means I get a much better sleep with only Sybil there 😁.

Our current lot have never been too bad for birding - there are so many rodents round us that I think that keeps them busy. I was very upset when one of them murdered a goldfinch a few years ago though. The dead one someone brought in was the only one I'd ever seen here...

Hope everyone and their cats have a great Sunday!
DH and I are off to get an early train to London to see DD who turned 19 on 3rd may.
We will see her play bass clarinet in mahler 9 with ULSO, a student orchestra. Should be fun!
Herbie has been left in the care of DS, who is revising for GCSEs which start tomorrow.

Enjoy the concert (congrats to your dd). I love Mahler's music but always have to quote Educating Rita before ever listening to any 🤣.

To be fair to the cats, if the goldfinch was the only one you've ever seen round there it was probably lost and/or ill.

Tiny bit concerned about Girlcat today. She's taken to wandering in to meals late & going away after just a nibble, then this morning she somehow managed to scare Tobias away from breakfast just as I set it down. She's been hammering the indoor grass as well yesterday and today, and being a bit more demanding of cuddles then ending them early. She's pooing just fine, it isn't particularly smelly, no weight loss I can see, and she looks fine in herself otherwise so just going to keep an eye on her for a few days.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 11/05/2025 09:26

It's a lovely morning so we are eating breakfast outside. Spotted these on a neighbour's roof.

Good luck to your DD, @Pianoaholic!

RumNotRun · 11/05/2025 11:58

My attempts at teaching Toad about respecting personal space seems to have been unsuccessful. Raven is looking a bit squashed!

ThugCatAdoration · 11/05/2025 14:56

NCer but used to post very long time ago! just delurking now to say my DC used to get very upset about our cat catching mice and baby birds. our cat was adorable but also thick as mince - even the vet commented on low level of intelligence once Blush so i told DC if a mouse or bird was caught by a bell wearing cat who was totally inept at everything usually- mouse or bird must have ill or injured anyway so dcat was just kindly trying to put it out of its misery.

said DC are now in their 20s and still believe it…

anyway, happy almost anniversary of thug cats move - and every cat on here is gorgeousSmile

JaceLancs · 11/05/2025 18:32

I’ve been away for a few days so not seen Finlay yet and am just catching up
on here too 😍😊

stormsandsunshine · 11/05/2025 23:42

Snowcat came on the bed to say good night to me.

She doesn’t like to sleep on our bed or in our room. Maybe this is for the best as she is so well camouflaged that it would be easy to sit on her.
