......... as Gizmo and Linney almost reach their first anniversary, they reflect on the joys of living in the same hoose.

Armed truce or brotherly love?

It’s nearly a year since I started fostering Kitty & her son, though I didn’t know she was moving in permanently until after he left in September. The summer of 2024 seems to have been a big time for cats moving house.

RumNotRun · 10/05/2025 20:54

Fred has had the zoomies tonight since coming in. I think the fresh air has sent him loopy!

Pixiedust1234 · 10/05/2025 21:12

Good grief it's a year already??

Happy Anniversary Broon and White! 🍾🎉🎁

EmpressaurusKitty · 10/05/2025 21:15

Are you going to do anything to mark it, @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne?

stormsandsunshine · 10/05/2025 21:16

Summer of 2024 was when my cats were born. We didn’t decide we were getting cats till September though and they moved in at the very end of September.

Evening, all! Sorry, I keep going awol. Seem to be busier since I quit my job, strangely.

I remember watching the secret life of cats. Loved it, as did Walter and Helix (RIP). They were fascinated.

Hope everybody is well. I did catch up on the old thread but can't remember what I wanted to comment.

It's been an eventful week here. Benny is being a murderous little shitbag. We've had two dead birds, and the other afternoon I found him with a fledgling cornered in the garden. A local rescue collected it and it was doing really well for two days, then just died 😢 Benny is now sporting two bells which I really hope might help. Not great so far.

Here are a couple of recent photos. Walter is such a dignified cat.

Hi @coastergirl . I am pleased to hear that it's not just Herbie who is being a murdering menace at the moment.
We have tried collars with bells, but he just kept losing them. Often within a few days!

Pianoaholic · 10/05/2025 22:56

Oh, and great to see the archive photos of Linney and Gizmo's first year!

Has absence made the heart grow fonder @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats?
Do you keep in touch with Gizmo's ex-dad - is there a new improved Gizmo in his life now?

I thought the same when I saw your post about Herbie. Little sods they are! Good job we love them eh

Have you all thought about opening bank accounts for your murdering cats so they can send their pocket money to bird charities, like the woman from the BBC archives? 😄

Kettle is absolutely useless at hunting. He'll occasionally stalk and rush a bird but he starts running from so far away that the bird is already in the next postcode by the time he gets to where it was. Must say I'm quite glad of it!

Lovely to see the first days of the Broon One and the White One! Would you say they're friends now? Or just roommates? 😄

stormsandsunshine · 10/05/2025 21:19

This was what they looked like when they first arrived.

Look at those little babies! 😻

That's the downside of adult rescues, no baby pics.

Kettle came to us in late September 2024 as well - they could have a joint party to save on the catering?

coastergirl · 10/05/2025 23:27

Argh just as I hit send on my last post, Benny came in and I heard a loud squeaking noise. He had something in his mouth that looked like a large mouse. Got shoes on and chased him outside and he ran down the garden. Dropped it and picked it up again, more loud squeaking. Caught him and it was another bird 😢 He dropped it so I collared him (not particularly gently tbh) and brought him in, shepherding Walter in at the same time. They're grounded. Except my house is really open plan which makes it impossible, or I would have done already. Murdering little toerag 😡

I probably would do that if I wasn't so broke! Apparently the fledglings can't get away because they can't fly yet, so cats can catch them easily. I think that's why it's only a problem at this time of year.
