......... as Gizmo and Linney almost reach their first anniversary, they reflect on the joys of living in the same hoose.

Stripey is putting on a good act of being pious and serene here, but she has actually been quietly destroying DD’s spider plant and was only discovered when I found a telltale bit of leaf in the hall in a puddle of saliva.

Matilda loves eating plants. I've tried telling her that a plant based lifestyle isn't suitable for cats, but she still insists on chomping through them all. I'd love to have a house filled with plants, but have had to accept that it's not going to happen. Strangely orchids are exempt, maybe they don't taste very nice.

stormsandsunshine · 16/06/2025 12:30

@HumanToCatBeasties when the cats came, we had three houseplants, all of which have now either had to move house or are in a sad state.

One large one got rehomed to my mum as Stripey kept pulling the soil out of the pot and spreading it around the house.

A tiny one got rehomed to live in my office because even though I tried hiding it, she kept tracking it down and knocking it over/spilling earth everywhere.

With the spider plant, she doesn't seem interested in the soil for a change, but apparently the leaves are incredibly tasty.

I don't think houseplants are in our future.

@stormsandsunshine Someone gave me this & I ended up turning a basket into a plant protector.

Does Kitty try to get in there?

No, but since several of my previous fosters were a bit too interested I used to have the top taped to the bottom.

scalt · 16/06/2025 15:54

The tailless one. “This is my bench!”

(Not actually tailless - just hidden away.)

The cathedral one. Yes, the famous resident of Southwark Cathedral.

Today Sybil has secreted herself in the bottom of a laundry basket.
Not sure why 😁

The ways of cats are unknowable. She looks cosy anyway. How are the antibiotics going? Do you think they have done the trick?

Pianoaholic · 16/06/2025 17:58

I am impressed that the laundry basket is empty!
Ours never seems to be, so Herbie wouldn't be able to get to the bottom of it!

Vixie is being funny today, she was stretched out diagonally earlier with her head on my laptop, bum on the sofa arm, and middle bit suspended in thin air. She then moved to be stretched out over the arm of the sofa but with one front paw and one rear paw stretched out. She's now just looking at me with her tongue poking out even more than usual.

She seems to be doing very well thanks - completely back to normal. Check up again at the vet on Saturday I believe.

EmpressaurusKitty · 16/06/2025 21:36

That’s terrific, Grumpy.

Breadcat24 · 16/06/2025 22:05

Well done Sybil
Please do not poop in the laundry basket

She wouldn't dream of it - ours really are all quite well trained. 😁

An interested observer earlier as I cut up some bacon for dinner.
(He had a tiny bit once cooked, terribly bad for him I'm sure).

I think another of @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats neighbours must be on the Aggressive Cats thread - posting under the name Cheezncrackers with reference to an aggressive ginger!

Went to the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition yesterday. There were a few submissions that involved cats and for some reason this particular one made me think of the Excellent Cats...
...Oh, and the fact that we should all be submitting entries from these threads that are definitely worthy and could be chosen for next year's exhibition! 😂

(Red dots mean people have bought a copy of the photo print - edition of 100/£290 each!)

(Its called The Kiss - Cornelia Parker RA)

Love that picture. Is it Gizmo's furrier brother on the wrong side of the window? 😁

stormsandsunshine · 17/06/2025 09:40

Snowcat had another encounter with Mr Tux yesterday who chased her into the house and then scarpered as soon as he saw me. She went and hid upstairs for a bit but was keen to sit in the garden again in the evening with me there.

She doesn’t do laps but if you make a hammock between your legs with a towel she rather likes that.

If not a relative, then definitely from the same 'finishing school' 😄
