......... as Gizmo and Linney almost reach their first anniversary, they reflect on the joys of living in the same hoose.

So it looks like just an infection (her bladder is empty). The vet is doing bloods and they'll put her on antibiotics and probably anti-inflamatories.
Needless to say she wouldn't keep still for a blood test so they are keeping her in until this afternoon and will dose her up with gabapentin first.
She has lost weight though down to just below 3kg (from about 4kg a couple of years ago). The vet suspects thyroid but the bloods wil confirm (or not).
I'll update later.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 05/06/2025 11:25

Oh Grumpy, I kind of hope it's her thyroid. I always find that the least worrying diagnosis when a cat presents with weightloss. I mean, it's treatable and not fatal.

Praying for you all.

Good luck Sybil! Flowers

EmpressaurusKitty · 05/06/2025 12:00

Hugs, Grumpy.

RumNotRun · 05/06/2025 12:32

Oh Sybil, sending love and best wishes from the tribe and me.x

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/06/2025 13:07

If it is thyroid- what's the typical monthly cost for drugs? Seen 100ml is just shy of £50 on the online pharnacies - how often does one dose? Daily?

And yes agreed - if it is thyroid it's a pretty good prognosis.

Pianoaholic · 05/06/2025 14:11

Hope Sybil will be ok, my childhood cat Misty had to have thyroid medication for many years and seemed to do ok with it. Don't know about costs though!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/06/2025 16:37

Sybil is a bit poorly.
Heart murmur, poor kidney markers, and a very high white blood cell count.
Back home now (very zonked from the gabapentin) - but need to monitor tonight and she's back to the vet tomorrow morning for a further check.
Her thyroid is fine...

Oh Grumpy. What a worry for you and for Mrs G.

Poor Sybil.

Grumpy sorry to hear Sybil is so unwell, worrying time for all.

Esgaroth · 05/06/2025 17:51

Oh no, poor Sybil. Did the vet say what else it could be?

CatsonPollock · 05/06/2025 18:00

So sorry to hear Sybil is poorly. Hopefully the vet will have answers and successful treatment options. 🩶

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/06/2025 19:02

The hope is that she's got a kidney infection rather than advanced kidney disease. It'll probably be a few days before we really know what is going on. The weight loss is a worry though.
She seems quite relaxed now (and has eaten and had a drink since she's been back) - but that'll be because she's stoned on the gabapentin 😁.

Oh no! How worrying for you Grumpy. Fingers and paws crossed that it's something easily treatable.

JoanOgden · 05/06/2025 20:09

Oh darling Sybil! What a worry - I do hope she's better soon.

stormsandsunshine · 05/06/2025 21:51

Get well soon Sybil - thinking of you

Pianoaholic · 05/06/2025 22:06

Sorry to hear that, hoping Sybil will be better soon.

Oh no @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats I hope the news is good about Sybil. I adore her, beautiful girl ❤️

Breadcat24 · 06/06/2025 08:47

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats hope Sybil gets well soon.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/06/2025 09:53

Mrs G is back from the vet.
Sybs is on antibiotics for the next four to six weeks.
She does seem a bit happier this morning (meaning Sybil, not Mrs G 😁).
The vet wants to sort out the infection first and then investigate the weight loss - seems a sensible approach.

EmpressaurusKitty · 06/06/2025 10:15

That’s good.

Will Sybil happily take the antibiotics or is that the next tricky bit?

I have three cats who are quite easy to pill.
And I have Sybil 😭

I can't get pills down my two without being scratched, my DD has no problem 🤔
Hopefully Sybil's infection clears up soon.
