Saw this BBC archives video of a delightfully barmy woman in the 70s who gave money to charity through her two cats and I thought I must post it here.

Quicksilver looks like she was a very sweet cat (fledgling slaughter notwithstanding).

That was adorable! I like her!

Herbie the pigeon pilferer remains unrepentant.

Linney murdered a vole this evening.

I discovered the body on the front step when I returned from the village quiz.

And talking of the village quiz - my friend Mary and I were a team of two, and came last.

What did Mary say when this was announced?

"Oh well. At least we were placed"

You say that, but in registered dog shows it's possible to have the only dog in the class & still not be placed! If the judge doesn't think your dog is worth being given the accolade, especially if it's a "ranking" type show, they can withhold any placings. I've also seen classes with a dozen or more dogs being shown and only first & second being given, but also classes with just 2 dogs and both being placed.

Oh the weird world of dog showing, give me cats any day! (Though I do love dogs too, just not quite as much).

That’s very philosophical of Mary.

Indeed.

Although a good deal of wine had been taken by then.

We received a box of After Eights as a consolation prize, which we will take to the Afternoon Tea Club on Thursday.

As I said, it'll make a change from our time-honoured tradition of handing round a bag of Jelly Babies after the bingo session.

Oh, village life, village life.

🤣🤣🤣

I think a prize for the last placed is an excellent idea.

My brother’s visiting today & is the first bloke who’s been to my flat since Kitty moved in. She studied him from under the sofa & once she realised he was settled on her balcony, dashed off to the bedroom to stare at him through the window. It seems it was all a bit of a shock.

Poor Kitty, men can be a bit alarming when you're not used to them.

Kettle and I are having a cup of tea and monitoring the birds flying overhead.

At the grand old age of 3.5 (I think!) Fred has finally gone outside. Toad saw something out of the lounge window and sprinted to the front door so I went outside with him to investigate. Fred was hovering by the door and eventually felt brave enough to take a few steps outside. He either heard a noise or some air touched him cause he then ran back inside 😁

I may see if he wants to put a harness on and come out the back, but that might be too much!

EmpressaurusKitty · 10/05/2025 19:08

Well done Fred! He should compare notes with Stripey.

I think Kitty’s recovered. We went out for the afternoon & when I got back she was asleep under the duvet. She’s currently busy.

I just love pictures of cats on their back legs.

No, but it's not from want of trying.

I had just one foster who might have managed it. When she left she’d almost cracked opening the treat drawer.
