Do you think he was missing you all and ooking for you to return?❤️

EmpressaurusKitty · 06/05/2025 21:21

Or patrolling to keep Picard out in your absence.

We took Linney for his Solensia today, and when we came back, the elderly man who calls Gizmo The Broon One was sitting outside in the sun.

We waved to him and he asked if we had The Broon One or The White One in the carrier.

🤣🤣 he's from the East Coast, of course.

When we told him that it was The White One he said the following:

"Aye, I seen The Broon One going up and doon, then he went roond and roond, then up and doon again."

(The Broon One was asleep in his donut when we got back. All that going "roond and roond and up and doon" must have tired him out)

Edited

I always wonder how Gizmo adapted to a Scottish accent 😅

I suspect Gizmo got used to being shouted at by Mrs Grumpy's Scottish accent over the years 😁

Ooohhh I didn't realise Mrs Grumpy is Scottish! 😱

I shout at my cats in Scottish and occasionally in Greek 🤣

EmpressaurusKitty · 06/05/2025 22:07

I talk to Kitty in Italian. Especially when fussing her.

Pianoaholic · 06/05/2025 22:17

I can claim a little Scottish blood, my mum's mum was Scottish and her dad was Welsh. My mum was born in Wales, and my dad was English, so a bit of a mixture.
I used to love hearing my Scottish Nana's accent.
None of the above are around anymore sadly. They were all great cat lovers though, my mum would befriend any cat!

PollyCreo · 06/05/2025 22:57

I love a Scottish accent. I class myself as Scoose which is half Scottish and and half Scouse 😅

Or patrolling to keep Picard out in your absence.

That is highly likely.
Or just nosing about, hoping to be given tasty morsels from the neighbours.

He especially likes the man who calls him The Broon One and the lady who calls him Gonzo.

Cailleach1 · 07/05/2025 09:47

Is it a case of ‘Gonzo’ being near enough to ‘Gizmo’? And, it doesn’t really matter to the cat anyway.

I used to have a cat called Harry. My mother used to refer to him as Sammy. When I corrected her, she would say ‘Sammy is good enough for him’. She was very kind to animals.

Growing up, none of our cats had human names. There was Snowy, Tabby, Manky (Manx), Bunny (kitten of Manky, also Manx), Blackie, and Ginger. You can tell from their names exactly what colour their coats were, or tail lengths they had.

My sister called one ‘Flibbertigibbet’, but that was an outlier.

On the other hand, our dogs did get human names.

We're not having the best day here - I've been ill and a boy in my son's class physically assaulted him (bit him and strangled him) over losing a game of Uno. Kettle remains blissfully unconcerned but his fluffiness is a comfort.

God, @Esgaroth. I hope you & your son are both feeling better now.

HumanToCatBeasties · 07/05/2025 19:01

@Esgaroth I'm sorry that sounds like an awful day. It's lovely that Kettle is there to comfort you both.

Pianoaholic · 07/05/2025 19:19

That's awful @Esgaroth . I hope the school are doing something about it.
Bless Kettle, he's such a cuddly cat 🐈

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 07/05/2025 19:44

I'm really sorry @Esgaroth that all sounds dreadful.

I think the school is taking it seriously. Thankfully the teacher reached them as the other boy was placing his hands round my son's throat and they are only 7 so easy for him to separate them. So all my son has is a bite mark, but he was understandably frightened.

Pianoaholic · 07/05/2025 21:22

I should hope they are taking it seriously. Hope he's OK.

Pixiedust1234 · 07/05/2025 22:58

@Esgaroth - I saw your thread. You must be devastated Flowers

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/05/2025 10:27

How is your son feeling this morning?
I've seen your other thread too - looks like you are getting sone good advice on it.

He's a remarkably happy and forgiving little fellow by nature and thankfully he doesn't seem upset at all. To him, I think if he sees that a child who wronged him has been told off and has said sorry, he's happy to move on. It's when he feels there has been injustice that he gets upset (like cheating at Uno...). He was cheerfully chatting about worms and Minecraft on the way to school as normal. I will be following some of the advice I received, though.

JaceLancs · 08/05/2025 11:15

Sorry to hear @Esgaroth hope things get sorted
Ive been missing Finlay as he’s hardly been at home but managed to get a bit of lap time last night

Kitty’s annoyed because her two favourite fleece throws are both on the washing line & she’s going to have to go to all that trouble to get them smelling properly of her again.

I wish Finlay would write a book about what he gets up to.

I’ve just been Googling cat trackers, I didn’t know they even came with cameras. Maybe in theory Finlay could even stream to @JaceLancs’s phone.

I bet a cat who wanted to could easily dispose of it though - I had a foster who took her collar off three times on the way back from being spayed.

stormsandsunshine · 08/05/2025 18:18

I’m sorry @Esgaroth, that sounds awful. I hope the school are taking it seriously and reassure you that your son will be kept safe in the future.

I’ve been working at home today and as soon as I put a blanket over my lap and the sofa next to me, Snowcat stopped being aloof and came to snuggle up against my side.
