..............and prepare instead to track down the Easter Bunny, anticipating a delicious snack.

Lenny is now taking an interest in classical music too.
(Or I suppose he could be trying to quench his thirst for ornithology by eyeing up the Birds of the British Isles next to the Grove 🤣.)

We've got to get DD2's cat (Sebastian) to the vet's for 08.45 tomorrow.
He's having a GA to have a lump on his neck removed and some dental work done.

It's 15 miles away so we'll have to get up early. Thankfully, Pa Broon has recovered after his fall on Sunday.

Good luck Sebastian!

Does Lenny have scientist leanings?

Wow. You have all the Grove volumes @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats .

Fond memories of finding the relevant volume of whatever I was studying at the time during my music degree. Also memories of all the last minute slackers, including my DH, in the library, surrounded by Grove volumes, trying to cobble together an essay. I always got mine done in plenty of time!

Herbie is definitely not being very cultured right now. He is 'making friends' with my cardigan that's been left on the floor. Not going into more detail about that, except to say there was a thread a while ago about 'cat getting aroused during making biscuits'.

Sorry to lower the tone!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 19/03/2025 09:00

You have all the Grove volumes
I bought them (including the 4 volume Opera set) negotiated down to what I thought was a very reasonable price in one of the Charing Cross Road second hand bookshops - £5 a volume for the two sets.
I bought them primarily for my sons to use (DS2 - has one term left before he finishes his music degree).
Needless to say in the digital age I'm the only person in the house who ever refers to them 🤣.

Pianoaholic · 19/03/2025 10:24

Yes, I doubt that DD, in 1st year of her degree, has even heard of Grove. Although her degree is more playing based, at conservatoire. I don't think they do a huge amount on the academic side.

It did bring back good memories for me though!

stormsandsunshine · 19/03/2025 10:25

DD2 (6) told me the other day that it was a special day for Snowcat as it was her wedding day - she was getting married to DD2.

It now transpires she has also got married to Stripey. She said she'd discussed it with Snowcat and she was fine with the bigamous relationship.

Esgaroth · 19/03/2025 10:29

I am shocked at the morals in your household, @stormsandsunshine!

Are the girls marrying each other too?

stormsandsunshine · 19/03/2025 10:44

@EmpressaurusKitty that's unclear to me. I think they've both had ceremonies just with DD2, but I wasn't invited to either (which is quite a snub actually- maybe I should start an AIBU thread about it).

Esgaroth · 19/03/2025 10:46

You are all much more highbrow than me. We don't really listen to classical music much but Kettle enjoys watching me play Red Dead Redemption 2, a masterpiece of the open world genre in which you can get drunk and say stupid things to cats.

YABU. Your daughter is within her rights to elope with a pair of kittens. Stop making it all about you.

stormsandsunshine · 19/03/2025 10:54

At least I'll have a good relationship with both my DILs (based on head scratches and treats) and won't need to start a thread about that

Absolutely start an AIBU thread. But for added entertainment don’t make it clear that your DD’s two new wives are cats.

Pianoaholic · 19/03/2025 11:06

@Esgaroth , although I am very 'into' classical music, as a guilty pleasure I like watching Married at first Sight Australia, which is hilarious, as are the threads on here about it.
Don't think Herbie thinks much of it as there are no cats on it!

stormsandsunshine · 19/03/2025 11:16

Both our cats are surprisingly keen on violin music (both children play). I wouldn't like to say that the 6 year old's playing sounds like caterwauling, but it seems to be a more pleasing sound to the cats than a human ear might expect. They also enjoy watching the bow going up and down and thinking about whether they can leap up and grab it. Younger DD is much more enthusiastic about doing her practice now she can play to the cats.

When we first got them, their favourite hiding place was behind the piano, and they would go and sit in the little alcoves at the back whenever DD1 did her piano practice. I worried about whether this would damage their hearing as the sound resonates so much at the back, but I think they may have found the vibrations comforting as they would fall asleep back there. The piano is still Stripey's safe place if something very upsetting happens like a tradesman coming to the house.

It did bring back good memories for me though!

DS1 went down the conservatoire route, DS2 is currently doing music academically (but applying to conservatoires for postgrad).

Both definitely use/used Grove - but the newfangled electronic interweb version instead of proper books.

While our cats may have pretentious taste in terms of music- it doesn't however stop them enjoying re-runs of Harry Potter movies and the like. 🤣

The Furry Precious is absolutely baffled as to why I want to go to a dark cold church to sing depressing hymns. She says that worshipping the sun is much more enjoyable.

Wedding threads on AIBU are my favourite.

This morning we got up early to take Sebastian for his surgery. (He's DD2's cat).

Anyway, it transpired that Sebastian, enraged by being kept Nil By Mouth overnight, broke out of the second bedroom where he was supposedly locked in, and made his way to the kitchen.

He then opened a cupboard, pulled down a bag of dry food and helped himself liberally to the contents.

The operation was therefore cancelled for today.

🤣🤣🤣

Herbie's favourite Rimsky Korsakov piece is Flight of the Bumble Bee, (closely pursued by a cat!)

I can confirm that The Stray is very much into bumble bees too. And sunbathing fence spiders.

I vaguely recall buying rabbit flavoured cat food in the 90s. It was a favourite and always scoffed (unlike the beef).

That really is absolutely top catting.
My congratulations to Sebastian 😻

But the story doesn't end there. We were by the car when DD2 phoned with the story of Sebastian's rascally escapade.

We went back to the house, having scraped the ice off the car, to find that we did need to go to the vet's as it happened - just with a different cat.

Gizmo had been outside, but as soon as he came back to the house, we saw that he was drooling large amounts of saliva. We wiped his face but it didn't stop. Anyway, we rang the vet and she told us to bring him in, in case he had something stuck in his throat.

Gizmo was deeply unamused at being placed in his carrier.

I hope Gizmo is okay 😲
