poor stripey
can you put on some window stickers until she learns

Poor Stripey! And she’s being so brave. Could you start putting something in front of the closed door to remind her?

Like a notice?

STRIPY YOU'RE GOING TO COST ME A LOT AT THE VET'S IF YOU GET CONCUSSION SO BACK OFF

A window sticker might be a good idea as that might make it easier for her to identify that the door was not currently open. Though I'm now remembering how over Christmas we had lots of seasonal window stickers on those doors, and Stripey systematically pulled all the low ones down and batted them round the floor. Maybe a huge notice is less tempting for her to attack!

I'm also wondering if we need to put a catflap in. I'd been holding off until the cats were more confident outside, but possibly Stripey will freak out less if she knows she always has a way back into the house. (Possibly not though - she's a jittery little thing and it's not like she's running into the door after calm consideration of her options).

The first time it was my fault as I didn't realise she was still outside and so I closed one door to lock up, and seconds later she realised what I was doing and ran at that same door. Last night I was inside the house but I stood up just before she panicked, and I wonder if she remembered the previous occasion and thought I was going to do it again. Maybe we just need to keep both doors open in good weather as she isn't running into the glass so she obviously knows which bits are never going to be open.

Snowcat did a wee in the flowerbed, however, while stonily eyeing up the wall next to it which is a kind of highway for local cats. So I think she's making a claim on the garden as her territory.

Frankie had Lick-e-lix today. He wanted to have Vixie's as well.

@stormsandsunshine you need a catflap definitely get a chipped one like sureflap

RumNotRun · 02/05/2025 21:23

It's just dawned on me that I gave Frankie catnip Lick-e-lix. No wonder he looks high as a kite in that photo!

stormsandsunshine · 02/05/2025 22:10

I’ve just been looking at the Sureflaps.

Does anyone on here have the fancy one with the hub, vs the more basic one without? I like the idea of being able to set a curfew, but is it worth the price difference? And is the fancy connected one more likely to break down or not work properly?

Pianoaholic · 03/05/2025 08:49

Ours is just a basic one, don't know about the other kind I'm afraid.
Sometimes it makes a funny noise, and when Herbie is sitting forlornly outside, I realise the battery needs changing!

CatsonPollock · 03/05/2025 09:02

Ours is the basic microchip one which works well. It took a bit of time for Mini Pollock to figure out that she can push it with her paw first and then stick her head out, whereas Mama Pollock just barrels through, taking no prisoners!
I have been eyeing up the fancy WiFi one. My worry is if the WiFi is down that they will be stuck outside...

And thanks for the reminder about checking the batteries!

This is Mama P next to the specially crafted cobbled together stool so that they can reach the flap from the outside!

Happy Caturday! We have some nice weather (though still not double digits on the thermometer 😞) and Kettle is on garden duty. I don't think he appreciates being papped while he's working.

Breadcat24 · 03/05/2025 12:15

@stormsandsunshine We just have the basic one. Actually 2- one at each end of the house in case the weather is different on the other side! Breadcat likes to sit just the catflap making the locking mechanism click and running the battery down!

EmpressaurusKitty · 03/05/2025 12:48

I’m away overnight so Kitty has the flat to herself. She watched me go from her eyrie but she’ll be asleep now in one of her many sunny spots.

Esgaroth · 03/05/2025 14:53

We have a sort of sun trap area round the front of our house and it's so warm that some cats have become rather silly. He cracks me up, what even is this position 🤣

Spatchcock position.

Life is absolutely exhausting at the moment.

I realised earlier this week that Girlcat has moved her doughnut bed across the top of their bed, so that the sun hits it for longer in the mornings. It slowly moved a couple of inches every day & is now around 18 inches from where it started. Smart girly!

Clever girl!

What I could really do with right now is a way to tell Kitty I’ll be home around lunchtime.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/05/2025 17:45

Gizmo positions himself to receive some cooked chicken.

(The only problem with this is that I took the picture at 10 o'clock this morning, long before the chicken was even put into the oven)

But he was on the right lines.

Is Gizmo psychic?

When I got back I could see Kitty through the bedroom window, washing herself & looking very relaxed. So that made me happy.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 04/05/2025 19:43

Is Gizmo psychic?

Have you ever had a cat that wasn't psychic? 😹

EmpressaurusKitty · 05/05/2025 06:27

Kitty woke me with kisses around 5 to tell me she was glad I was back, which was very nice of her but 6 would have been better.

EmpressaurusKitty · 05/05/2025 11:36

Look at these beautiful toes.
