Went to Hever Castle today, well worth a visit.
No SHCs (Stately Home Cats) but I did spot a small sketch hanging up that after close inspection made me smile.

Is that where the Boleyns lived? Thanks Grumpy, I might visit.

Kitty’s been having fun with her current favourite toys.

It was indeed. More recently owned by the Asters who did a huge amount of restoration and landscaping at the start of the 20th century. Never been before today so knew bugger all about it prior to our visit. The gardens/grounds are absolutely gorgeous - we walked our legs off.

Kitty is looking very endearing as always 😻

We're away for the Easter hols and I managed to dig up some photos of the cats we had when I was little. Mac (tabby) and Tosh (ginger) 😍

Tosh looks not dissimilar to Kettle's enemy!

Apparently my parents stopped taking photos of them past kittenhood because they didn't like each other as adults 😆

Another Tudor palace that was owned by high society in the 30's is Eltham Palace. Very small gardens of course being as it's on the edge of London, but interesting seeing the dichotomy of the original Tudor Great Hall, and the fabulous Art Nouveaux interiors put in by the Courtauld family.

There's also a large flock of green parakeets living wild round there, who sit in the trees by the cafe in hopes of crumbs.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/04/2025 18:05

@Allergictoironing
Agreed - Eltham Palace is also very well worth a visit (odd opening times though).

Just realised this doesn't make sense. I meant I could only find pictures of them together, so they must all have been kitten photos.

In the 2nd pic they look fully adult, so no longer kittens as such?

They're younger than 1 going by the dates of the photos, but yes probably fully grown physically.

I wondered whether you were referring to the cats or your parents (or both?) there. 🤣

Have you been to the nearby Severndroog Castle, Allergic? Great views from the top & I once came face to face with a parakeet up there.

Allergictoironing · 13/04/2025 18:30

Nope not been to that one. And I'm afraid my stately homes/castles/great garden days are over now - too much pain walking any distance over about 50 yards without a break even on meds 😪

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/04/2025 19:03

Not one I know either @EmpressaurusKitty.
I'll add it to the list. 👍
Always been slightly disappointed our cats have never mugged a parakeet... 😲🤣

JoanOgden · 13/04/2025 19:15

Yes I wish my cat would take out some of the parakeets which are currently draining my bird feeder every day!

Scotney Castle in Kent is very pretty and the previous owner's wife was a massive cat-lover, so there are lots of charming cat pics.

GR has been round today, growling and being bad tempered.
Lenny's tail says it all - don't think I've ever seen it this fluffed up before.

Ohhhh @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats 🙀🙀🙀
I bet you're regretting shipping TC off to Scotland now?

EmpressaurusKitty · 14/04/2025 15:23

That’s an absolutely spectacular tail.

TC (Gizmo) and Picard had a spectacular fight in the front garden yesterday.

Again.

But this photo, taken later in the day, suggests that they'd called a temporary truce in the hostilities.

We went out for lunch with DD2 today.

This is her cat, Cleo, pointing out that she'd been abandoned.

You've obviously told them to apologise to each other or there'll be no dinner 😹
