I spent ages last night trying to think of this thread title.

@Esgaroth Frankly it takes style to look that handsome in a cone of shame

Greetings to all the beautiful mini black panthers (and equally beautiful cats of other colours).

We're back from the vet with a course of antibiotics, more pain meds and instructions to clean with something called chlorhexidine and apply honey ointment twice a day. The sutures predictably were not removed.

Poor Kettle probably has an infection under the skin which is producing fluid that needed a way out, which caused the new wound to open up. That's the working theory anyway.

Fingers crossed we will start to see some improvements. We're supposed to give it 4 days and then they will judge whether something else needs to be done.

Oh poor lamb! Though he looks surprisingly comfortable in that cone. He is a handsome fella!
Good luck, hope this is the thing that sorts his legs out properly 😿

Esgaroth · 28/10/2024 20:11

Well there's never a dull moment with this cat. Saw him batting a hair tie around the floor while I was cooking dinner and idly thought, 'Aw cute, but I should probably take that away from him'. Turned away for a second and looked back to see him doing a big gulp. No hair tie to be seen.

Trip to the emergency vet for drugs to make him vomit, me and the vet take turns to spin him around on a chair. When she puts him down he looks rough as hell but doesn't vomit, licks his chest a little and then lies down to go to sleep.

So now we've got to give him paraffin oil and hope to fuck he manages to shit it out. 😩

Bloody hell, you are going through it. I hope you have good insurance and it all comes out in the (ahem) wash.

RumNotRun · 28/10/2024 20:30

Two trips to the vet in one day? Bloody hell! Fingers crossed that he expels the hair tie and his leg mends soon.

TheShellBeach · 28/10/2024 20:32

Oh Kettle!

Oh @Esgaroth he's keeping you on your toes!

Hope Basil is continuing to wee 😁

Wednesday had her final appointment at the vet today... all infection gone apparently so just waiting for the stitches to dissolve. Her tail fluff is growing back so all is good.

Mr Holbein asked why she meows like Elvis now 🤣🤣 I hadn't noticed but he reckons she has a bit of a sneer since her extraction 🤣🤣

RumNotRun · 28/10/2024 23:46

Lexter is being adorable tonight.

My sister goes nuts when she sees the cats (mainly Vix) on the work surfaces. I have tried to explain to her that this is their house, they just let me stay here. I can't tell them where they can and can't go. Well, I can but I shouldn't expect them to take any notice.

RumNotRun · 29/10/2024 13:24

Shhhh, I'm hiding!

Hello @KittenKins what's your cat's name?

Archimedes. He was a very chilled compared to my 3 year old, Phoenix who isn't black, but red & white.

Great cat names btw 👍

Pudmyboy · 29/10/2024 15:30

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats how is Basil?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 29/10/2024 15:36

Well he just came into my office, sat in a box (squashing it) and miaowed at me for attention, so on the whole I would say really quite normal 🤣.
Being serious - he seems fine and is peeing, so fingers crossed he is sorted. Thanks for asking.

He's not even too grumpy with me about the number of drugs I'm giving him twice a day.

Well he is keeping you on your toes! Hope it all comes out nicely, the only time my late Pud 'scooted' on the carpet (that I saw, anyway) was when he passed a nugget of poo which had got skewered onto a piece of grass he had eaten, like a little smelly olive on a green cocktail stick, and he couldn't get the grass fully out. I had to help.🤢
Given hairbands are stretchy, I hope Kettle doesn't need help...

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 29/10/2024 18:38

I gave Kitty her flea treatment this evening for the first time since she moved in. She was a very, very good girl - wasn’t impressed but she let me do it, then showed her annoyance by refusing to take Dreamies from my hand as she usually does & making me put them on the floor instead.

I'm allowed to sit next to her & give cheek rubs now though.

Kitty looks like she's still trying to decide if she's going to let you do another one.

Hopefully by then she’ll have forgotten & I can get in quickly!

HumanToCatBeasties · 29/10/2024 19:23

@Esgaroth Kettle certainly knows how to make you worry. I hope the hairband makes a swift exit and the antibiotics sort the rest out. One of mine tries to eat gift wrapping ribbon, I've now hidden all the hairbands.
