Great title! Thanks for the new thread.

Thanks for the new thread Shell.
Just gone against veterinary advice and let Basil out for a stroll 🙀. I do suspect he'd be more stressed if he didn't go out so I regard it as therapy. He has peed in the tray today (huzzah) and has spent most of the day asleep either on me or Mrs G.

I actually think that letting Basil out will cause him less stress than keeping him in.
He needs to know that his life is back to normal.

Agreed - and he's back in already to eat 😁.

I am so pleased he didn't have to have an operation. He would be terrible at cage rest.

RumNotRun · 26/10/2024 20:24

He is so handsome. I'm glad he's home and eating and weeing.

Anniegetyourgun · 26/10/2024 20:36

If only it was this easy when you need to take them somewhere...

Hello, thanks for the new thread. I can’t keep up, but am so pleased Basil is doing okay.

Here is Louie-Boo eyeing up the bacon sandwich DP brought me in bed this morning. I’d been nervous how he would be with fireworks (our girl was terrified of them and we used to have awful evenings of her crying under the bed, white noise playing, and me lying on the ground singing to her) but so far he seems totally unbothered. Like her, he is really afraid of the hoover though so we shall see.

Ah! I'm dreading the fireworks. Our neighbours are the loveliest, quietist people you could hope for except for Bonfire night when they have a firework party every year. They are (literally) never in the garden apart from that night! Our old (much missed) pair of cats didn't bat an eyelid or twitch a whisker at the noises so we were quite complacent when we adopted our new girls but they are terrified of the noise. 😿

Pixiedust1234 · 26/10/2024 23:01

I bet that bacon butty quivered and shook after seeing Louie's eyes upon it 🙀

I'm really hoping the stray is like our last rescue, she didn't even twitch a sleepy ear at some of the WW2 type fireworks we get around here.

Thanks for the new thread! Great title 😂

RumNotRun · 27/10/2024 00:21

People around here have been letting fireworks off for the last few nights. Thankfully most of the tribe just ignore them. Fred did do aeroplane ears and wide eyes at some of the bangs a couple of nights ago but he didn't run and hide so I think he'll be ok. 🤞

nettie434 · 27/10/2024 01:09

Belatedly adding my good wishes to Basil. And my congratulations to Shell on yet another brilliant thread title.

I wonder if cats are afraid of vacuum cleaners because of the noise, given their hearing is so much more sensitive than humans, (or am I stating the bleedin' obvious?)

I had one foster who sat and glared at the hoover all the time it was on, then as soon as it stopped would run to tell her more nervous sister that it was ok to come out now.

And one, a boy kitten, who seemed to think it was either a rival or a playmate & would chase it.

Kitty sees me clearing her stuff off the floor, knows what’s coming & vanishes.

Cats Protection declared 27 October National Black Cat Day in 2011, because black / black & white cats were least likely to be adopted from them, so Happy National Black Cat Day to Basil, Shady & all other excellent black cats!

We’re still seeing this at my local rescue - idiots who don’t want black cats because they think they’re less instagrammable.

Frankfurter, Toad, and Raven say Happy Black Cat Day to all their void like brothers and sisters. Black cats are my favourite 😻 Especially the teeny tiny ones like Frankie! (Please ignore the awful mess of my kitchen. Renovation work is ongoing!)

Oh no - hope you feel better soon and have someone to bring you whatever you need! Or have managed to train the cats in basic first aid 💐

@buffyspikefaith it might be Covid, with those symptoms.
I hope you feel better soon.
