I spent ages last night trying to think of this thread title.

🤣🤣🤣

Oh my gosh, imagine being a cat and being able to have a nosey round that garden though @JaceLancs ! I am very envious of Finlay.

TheShellBeach · 10/11/2024 17:34

I hope you've all taken heed of today's thread about telling your cats not to hunt or eat birds. I've already told Linney and Gizmo, who were distinctly unimpressed.

I actually heard Linney say "Whatever" as he walked away.

🤣🤣🤣

@JaceLancs very close then! I'm in Southport. Travel between here and Preston/east lancs regularly. Think I'm going to charge up our one remaining tracker and put it on Benny, see if he still goes adventuring to the park. He definitely goes further than Walter.

I haven't seen a thread about telling cats to stop hunting, but if they have any effective tips I'd love to hear them. Sick of Benny performing elaborate dissections in the bath. I did tell him to leave the mousies outside when I'd just removed a live one from his mouth last week (that was a battle). He was distinctly unimpressed, and tbf, the mouse in question tried to get back in when I freed it! Idiot.

Kitty’s a flat cat with a balcony catio, so birds are safe as far as she’s concerned. Although we do get the odd magpie sitting on the balcony railing, which causes some excitement.

I deliberately didn’t open that thread. It’s like the vet saying “Brush your cats teeth”. Excellent idea. No idea how to actually carry that out.
Birds are generally safe from Cat Two as they don’t land in our small courtyard, and she’s not been quick enough to get one as they swoop by. However, mice, lizards and once a RAT are all ruthlessly brought into the house for Cat One and Three to play with. She’s very good like that, always shares her treasure.
Cat Three took to following her everywhere after she brought in the second mouse.

Cat’s roaming territory is so interesting! Does Finlay stick to the same territory JaceLancs?

I can only assume so - it did make me laugh.

Pudmyboy · 10/11/2024 19:22

Actually I am absurdly pleased that I worked out how to attach a thread!

That one I’ve actually got an answer to. We use Logic Gel as recommended by the vet. The instructions go from ‘brush your cat’s teeth if you can’ down to ‘just put it on their paw if necessary so they lick it off.’

Kitty licks it off my finger. We haven’t got to actually smearing it on her teeth yet but we’re working up to it.

Personally I think it would be easier to brush a cat's teeth than getting a tablet down them. Or even flea spot on.

coastergirl · 11/11/2024 00:17

My boys have been very snuggly tonight! Benny loves attention but isn't often much of a lap cat. He settled on my lap earlier, annoyingly he did it just when I needed a wee!

Walter is definitely a lap cat. He snuggled by my legs a while ago, kneading my blanket. When I got up, I tucked the blanket around him. He'd normally run away but tonight he snuggled down, wrapped in the blanket, and he's still there! Very sweet. Except I no longer have a blanket!

Adorable @coastergirl !😻

learieonthewildmoor · 11/11/2024 09:47

I find my cats love me more and more as the temperature goes down. In winter, they adore me; in summer we are passing acquaintances.

Four’s brothers are here: he is demonstrating how to sit in a lap.

That’s adorable, @learieonthewildmoor.
Kitty snuggled up with me on the sofa for the first time yesterday. I could see her thinking about whether to do it or not. We’ll work up to laps 🤞🤞

@learieonthewildmoor Beautiful kittens! I do not think it is possible for you to post too many pictures today

Esgaroth · 11/11/2024 16:19

OK everyone, I am going to send this pic to the vet to get the all clear but what do you think? Safe to lick?? Or let that tiny reddish spot fully fade? I know he will lick it a lot as soon as he can, just hopefully not excessively once he's given it a good clean.

Nearly there.
I'd give it two more days, just in case.
It's been so intractable, so I wouldn't risk it opening up again, when he finds he can lick it. Which he will!

But maybe your vet will say it's okay now.

TheShellBeach · 11/11/2024 16:37

I mean, @Esgaroth if it was a human being's wound, I'd have no hesitation in pronouncing it fine.

But this is Kettle, and he has a track record of opening that wound up...........

OP posts:
LostCats · 11/11/2024 16:39

I’d definitely let it have 2 more days. That red spot just needs a lick or 10 and it’ll open and spread. He basically needs no open skin at all to get a gap to tear open I’d say?

Esgaroth · 11/11/2024 16:42

I think that's probably a good call. Better safe than sorry.

I think that’s sensible. You’ve come such a long way on this, it would be awful if he opened it up again.

Esgaroth · 11/11/2024 16:50

Just getting a bit overexcited 😄 It's looking so good!

I agree for what it's worth! Cats' tongues could make short work of that spot. The skin will still be quite thin there I expect.
