Great Monday morning news on the recovering kitties!

She is very pretty, and her tabby M on her forehead is definitely there! No doubt about it any more 😸

Thank you @Pudmyboy!

RumNotRun · 21/10/2024 14:34

@Esgaroth and @Pudmyboy Pigeon really was a fantastic little thing.

She was found when she was a few days old at the local tip. They think she was from one of the feral colonies there. I had her from about 3 months old.

She'd only been living with me a couple of weeks when I came home from work and she came downstairs as normal but then started falling over and walking into the wall. It was like she was drunk! I panicked thinking she was dying but when I got her to the vet they said she had ideopathic vestibular syndrome and it would sort itself out. She mainly recovered within a couple of days but always had a slight tilt to her head.

She never meowed, plenty of hisses and purrs though. Sadly she had to be PTS when she was only 4, she just collapsed and the vet said they couldn't do anything. There will always be a Pigeon shaped hole in my heart for her.

Esgaroth · 21/10/2024 15:15

Oh poor little thing 😢 Such a short life but she was obviously much loved.

That is so sad, yet also she managed to fill your heart with love and got to live her best, albeit short, life, by the sound of it pretty much on her own terms. RIP forever little Pigeon 🐈

Ah Rum I am sorry. They really do leave their own paw print shaped mark on us don’t they ❤️

I am loving the what would you say to your cat thread. Although I have been a bit weepy at it too. Well done for starting that one @Breadcat24 It really is a lovely thread

Just taken Wednesday to the vet for a post op check up. Supposed to be the last one but they think she might have an infection where the tooth came out so 5 more days of antibiotics and another visit over there next Monday. Deep joy. Still at least her tail is recovering from the over grooming and my middle child has the knack of getting tablets into her so it could be worse.

Our four have just had their MOTs - the kittens last week and Basil and Sybil today. The vet reckons Sybil and Lenny both need some dental work in the next six months or so 😫. Otherwise all seems well.
Sybil celebrated her return from the vet by climbing a ladder...

Thanks everyone for your lovely words about Miss Pigeon. We miss all our past cats cause they are all so individual and lovely in their own ways. However (and don't tell my current cats this!) Pigeon and Alizè, who was PTS 2 days after her, were my favourite ever heart cats.

Holbein, do you hire out your middle daughter for tablet giving? I'd definitely borrow her to get worming tablets into the tribe! 😁

Els1e · 21/10/2024 21:13

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats Looks like Sybil is keeping her mouth firmly shut. Glad their mot went well albeit a few advisories.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 21/10/2024 21:14

Pigeon sounds like a wonderful little character, & how lucky she was to find you.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 22/10/2024 08:07

A woman next to me on the station platform this morning was FaceTiming someone & suddenly exclaimed ‘Molly!’ and started making loving cooing noises.

I looked at her screen because I instinctively thought Molly must be a cat, but she turned out to be a toddler. So that was a bit disappointing.

LostCats · 22/10/2024 09:09

Ha ha Empress, I had assumed a cat too! I have been known to do that on FaceTime to my cats 😆

And I’m with Rum, Holbein. I’d pay very good money for anyone who can get pills into cats!

Before spot on we used to pay the vet to insert worming tablets into cats. They thought we were wasting money. We however did not think this

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 22/10/2024 09:14

So having had a clean bill of health from the vet yesterday - this morning Basil is straining to have a pee and is clearly uncomfortable. Emergency appointment at the vet at 11.30.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 22/10/2024 10:02

Oh no…! Hope it’s not serious.

Thank you - I hope so too. He had a very expensive urinary problem once before, in 2021, but hasn't had a problem since.

Back
£144 lighter. Appointment, metacam, injection and a tube for a pee sample.
He managed to pee in his basket on the way so didn't need any immediate intervention thank goodness.
Picture of him exploring while there.

Basil has such beautiful eyes.

Esgaroth · 22/10/2024 12:25

How on earth does one collect a urine sample from a cat? Or is it enough to bring litter that's been pissed on?

Hope everything resolves itself with the medication. I think metacam is what Kettle has for his pain relief as well!

The only way I've ever managed is to tuck a shallow tray under their bum after they have started 🤣

When Gizmo had his UTI not long after he arrived here, the vet had to anaesthetise him to get a catheter specimen.

Well, and to feel his tummy etc. He went nuts when she first tried and he bit and scratched her

(Anyway, two weeks later when she reviewed him, he let her examine him without a fuss so he must have been in pain the previous time)
