Flounders or Flouncers? The Excellent Cats continue their important debate

I love a sleeping cat 😻 They always look so cosy and peaceful.

We are going forward and backwards at the same time here with Kettle. On the positive side, he's getting very comfortable with me and is exploring the house more and more when it's just us home, even venturing all the way upstairs to nose around our bedrooms.

On the negative side, he's decided that DH is terrifying and not to be trusted. We don't know why, as he was treating us all somewhat equally and DH has not done anything in particular to spook him that we can think of. He will no longer come out from under the bed if he thinks DH is too close. So we're almost back to square one when he's around which is disheartening 😔.

He still likes the kids at least. Any ideas on what we can do? Should DH spend more time in his room, try to tempt him out with treats, or just completely back off and ignore him for a while?

@Esgaroth I think you DH should become the lick-e-lix or tinned tuna man

Well of course TC Gizmo wouldn't like Sybil's cat bed, it's far too pretty for a tough cat like him.

Since we're covering cat beds, here is Mingus in his. I have the cord tucked under it, but when it gets chillier, there's an electrical cord that plugs into the mains and gently heats the floor of the bed. He is surrounded by Mr Bear, Kevin the penguin, and Yuki, the Japanese cat.

Notice the huge indentation in the sofa cushion directly above the cat bed. He likes to sleep up there as well.

God help me, I've bought him a packet of little freeze dried prawns in an attempt to find something that he will really, really like.

Why have I had a cat for less than two weeks and I've already bought him four different kinds of treats. (Don't worry, he hasn't finished any of the packets, I'm just apparently incapable of testing different kinds to see if he loves them more).

DH can test the prawns on him. Fingers crossed 🤞

My 2 cats have ignored every bed we've tried to tempt them with after an initial 'fooled ya!' try out. They both prefer the top of the (permanently indented) sofa cushions or the top of the kitchen cabinets 🤷‍♀️
(I do wonder if we ever move what new owners would make of the hairy nests on top of the cupboards 😳)

Incapable of resisting testing different kinds, that should say.

Sybil has only left her new bed briefly on one occasion since it arrived, and that was to go and top up with food.
Basil just tried to have a look in and got slapped (apologies for the mad Sybil eyes - poor use of flash on my part 🤣)

It is a very fine bed!

Now Karl is trying to get in and Sybil won't let him in either. Great entertainment value this cat bed

You know what this means Grumpy. By Christmas, they'll all expect 1 each...

I am going to state the obvious: it's a cat kidston bed, not cath....

Oh @Esgaroth I hope you get to sort out your Kettle problem soon, it seems such a shame after all he's been through and after all the efforts you and your family have made

Lexter decided to try on one of the Halloween outfits we have.

Do you still have both eyes, @RumNotRun ? I'd lose at least one if I tried to put a costume on either cat here.

He's quite placid when it comes to clothes/outfits. It's only when he has his nails cut or flea/worm treatment that he likes to slice my skin to ribbons.

I could possibly dress Toad and Vix up as well but Toad just flops onto the floor and loses the ability to use his legs if I put clothes on him so I can never get a decent photo 😁

@LostCats I hope you are able to check Eko out soon, it must be a worry! Please keep us updated 😿

In my bit of Cardiff we don't get vampire bats but we do get vampire cats.

Thank you all so much for the well wishes for my Eko. Thankfully this morning it appears the greatest wound was his pride and he was back to eating all of Boone’s food and singing his songs at 5.45.
However as you said Grumpy, I definitely will be on the lookout for abscesses.

I’m away for work until Friday night. Kitty’s fabulous pet sitter will be visiting her tonight & twice tomorrow & sending me videos, & I know very well that she’ll sleep most of the day in her selection of beds & cardboard boxes.

But still, the guilt….!
