TW Cars hit cat in front of me

Hi. Just sharing as still shaking to bits with fury and the awfulness. And to ask any experience with this situation. Cat is now at vet, alive.
Not my cat. Driving home. Saw white cat on road in opposite lane. Stopped, put hazards on, all kids in car. Went to get out. Two more cars drive by and BOTH hit the cat. Worst thing I've ever witnessed. Tossed him. I was screaming with rage at this point at the carelessness and callousness of the drivers. It was a 30. No way they didn't see him. I pick him up and he's warm and breathing.
I'm freaking out from witnessing it and yell at a nearby man to help. He shrugs 'probably won't make it anyway' and won't. I call him some things and he goes nuts. I get in car and hand cat to my mum then try dialling 24hour vets. Near impossible to find one. Finally say they'll call me back and find me one 20 mins away. I don't even hear the directions as so freaking out but get to town somehow through tears and to lovely vet
Readers, he has no fractures but his pupils are pin prick not responding properly. He had blood in his eyes.suspects head trauma. Neutered male. Vet will look for chip and call owner and said call in morning to find out what's what. Said we'll have him if no owner.

Honestly one of the worst things I've ever experienced. I'd like to hunt down those two drivers and pulverise them.

Is there any hope for him.

Thank you for caring for the little guy. Whether he survives,I don't know, but with your input, you've given him a fighting chance. Why are some people so cruel. It must have been such a traumatic experience for not only the cat but also for you and your family. Please keep us updated and I'll keep him in my thoughts. Let's hope karma catches up with both drivers if done on purpose 😡

Sethera · 14/09/2024 00:05

Crossing my fingers for the little chap.

Gingerkittykat · 14/09/2024 00:05

I'm sorry you witnessed that but thanks for taking him to the vet to give him the best chance of survival.

FixTheBone · 14/09/2024 00:08

Literally Schrodinger's cat.

When they shit in a garden they're a wild animal
If one gets run over, its a beloved pet...

Awful for any creature to suffer though.

Carouselfish · 14/09/2024 00:17

I can't find any info on if an owner says they don't want to keep him/give him treatment and euthanize whether the vet would be allowed to offer to find him a home (us).

@FixTheBone I can't bear roadkill. Wild animals or other. Undignified and awful end to an animal's life. Many is the time I've moved a badger or deer off the road so they don't get repeatedly hit.

Oh that's absolutely horrendous! I don't understand how somebody could do that. Really hope puss pulls through 🙏

Pudmyboy · 14/09/2024 00:39

Oh @Carouselfish you are wonderful for doing what you did, and I agree about the scummy drivers and heartless man...the poor cat! But you have given him a chance, and he won't die alone at a roadside if that is what happens, though I hope he pulls through 🤞🤞
I remember when learning to drive, my instructor telling me to emergency brake for dogs but not squirrels or cats: it was when dog licences were still required and that made an accident involving a dog reportable, hence braking for them.
Needless to say I brake for squirrels and cats!

EmeraldRoulette · 14/09/2024 00:42

Oh no
hugs for you
thank you for doing that
I’m sorry, what a horrible experience for you

as for those drivers, I have no words 😶

RogueFemale · 14/09/2024 00:49

@Carouselfish Thank you so much for caring and taking this cat to the vet. Any news?

Yes, cars are horrible and brutal. I completely understand why you do this.

Miracle cat!!! Vet says fractured jaw potentially but walking around this morning and very friendly. They are trying to reach the owner. Can't treat jaw until owner agrees which seems bad but asked what if owner doesn't want him and they said they still treat him and get him signed over to them. But since he's friendly and neutered (and has a doofus name, I asked) I'm sure he has loving owners. ❤️
We think maybe one car hit his jaw and knocked him out then the other two must have just blown him up in the air with backdraft rather than wheels going over him. 🙏🙏😻

Fantastic news to wake up to this morning. Thanks for updating us. He's definitely used two out of his nine lives bless him. ♥️

@Carouselfish Thank you for what you did for this cat, what a lovely person you are and as a cat owner I really appreciate that.

I can't understand how people are ok with letting animals suffer, I guess because as humans we are superior to all beings and some of us are just not very nice.
Keeping everything crossed for the cat I am sure the owners will be so grateful to you 💐.

Hurrah hooray! Fabulous news @Carouselfish ! Oh I do love a happy ending! ( Or happy progress, it won't be over till the owners respond) 😻💐

Azertyuio123 · 16/09/2024 07:53

Amazing news! What's the latest?

Igmum · 16/09/2024 08:48

Such good news. Thank you for saving him ❤️

Pudmyboy · 16/09/2024 11:51

@Carouselfish Another post hoping for an update 😸

Whynotmakeittwo · 16/09/2024 11:56

I am in tears reading this but so relieved that he is alive and okay! Posting so that I don’t miss any updates 🙏

Thank you so much for doing what you did. I would’ve done the same. He is so lucky that you were there ❤️

TurtlesDoNotPetsMake · 16/09/2024 12:00

That's brilliant news op. Thank god you were there to respond so quickly. Too many don't give a shit about animals, down from treasured pets to the meat on their kitchen table.

Julen7 · 16/09/2024 12:00

Such great news & you are amazing 😻

Carouselfish · 16/09/2024 17:56

Ok, wise MNers. We've got a decision to make. Without revealing too much, his owner has relinquished him to the vets. The vets are all in love with him and want him to have a home nowhere near roads. His recovery has been good until today when the vets have said he is a bit quiet, he is also a bit slow, reaction-wise. They don't know if he has brain damage, basically. He's affectionate, using litter tray, eating (though not a lot), jumps up on things, purrs. We went to visit him today. He is beautiful and so lovely to see him up and about, although he does look a bit...gone out. That expression that Dougal makes in Father Ted.
So. We can offer him a home in one half of the house where our other cat lives - conservatory, bathroom and utility room. We live off a dirt track in the countryside. There's a lane a couple of fields away. In the other half of the house, we have two dogs one elderly, one middle-aged, who have nothing to do with our other cat. Cat is out most of the day, back early eve. She came from a situation with 7 other cats (so probably sociable with others?). She's 3, the same age as him. Moderately aloof. We also have two children 9 and 4, very animal savvy and friendly.
He is supposedly a wanderer. His former owner hadn't seen him for a couple of months.
If not us, the vets would be careful to find him a good home. They are all very keen on him but can't have him themselves for one reason or another.
Should we have him or shouldn't we? Another consideration is we don't have vast amounts of spare money, thinking about unknown conditions resulting from his accident....
Sorry it's not very ordered info. We are all torn and want what's best for him. Vet says it's not always easy to find caring owners in a rural situation so would like us to have him.

Well I think you would be best taking the vet's advice, all things considered....(Also keen to see the kitty settled and to have a cat tax picture to coo over😻)

EmeraldRoulette · 16/09/2024 18:40

Ooh I don’t know

obvs if it’s too much for you cost wise then you can’t buy is there a local group that can find him a human? I suppose it will be hard to insure him now?

Im so glad he’s better. Re the name, as you say he is “Moderately aloof” I think he has to be the Moderately Aloof Floof, so you have to call him Maffy 😍

Carouselfish · 16/09/2024 18:51

Ah no, the aloof one is our resident girl, Velvet!
I've sort of named him (Orange) Julius in my head as he is actually a gorgeous orange and white.
