TW Cars hit cat in front of me

Hi. Just sharing as still shaking to bits with fury and the awfulness. And to ask any experience with this situation. Cat is now at vet, alive.
Not my cat. Driving home. Saw white cat on road in opposite lane. Stopped, put hazards on, all kids in car. Went to get out. Two more cars drive by and BOTH hit the cat. Worst thing I've ever witnessed. Tossed him. I was screaming with rage at this point at the carelessness and callousness of the drivers. It was a 30. No way they didn't see him. I pick him up and he's warm and breathing.
I'm freaking out from witnessing it and yell at a nearby man to help. He shrugs 'probably won't make it anyway' and won't. I call him some things and he goes nuts. I get in car and hand cat to my mum then try dialling 24hour vets. Near impossible to find one. Finally say they'll call me back and find me one 20 mins away. I don't even hear the directions as so freaking out but get to town somehow through tears and to lovely vet
Readers, he has no fractures but his pupils are pin prick not responding properly. He had blood in his eyes.suspects head trauma. Neutered male. Vet will look for chip and call owner and said call in morning to find out what's what. Said we'll have him if no owner.

Honestly one of the worst things I've ever experienced. I'd like to hunt down those two drivers and pulverise them.

Is there any hope for him.

You make me happy!
Not to stick a downer on this but cats sometimes self soothe by purring - if in pain. I know you're obviously keeping an eye on and salute you!

Pudmyboy · 19/09/2024 19:50

As said on a different thread: I am dying of cuteness!😻😻😻
Pumpkin does fit him well, or Sir Purralot?
Please keep us updated @Carouselfish !

@Carouselfish That’s awful.
My old Lurcher andWhippet found a cat and would not leave his side.

I walked up and car was miaowing.

I tried to shop him off the road- ( Private car park for college) and he didn’t move.

I touched him and felt bone grinding under my hand. ( skin not broken)

Flagged down a car who let me, cat and two dogs get into the back seat.

Cat was purring, but in clinical shock ( pale gums)

He survived- Thank goodness-
but vet said had he not been brought in and given plasma expanders &c immediately he’d probably have died.

he had shattered hip and femur.

We met him and his owners weeks later.
Henry was his name.

Hope your little guy makes it 🙏

Definitely ! The cat we found was self soothing by purring.
It’s not unusual.

oakleaffy · 19/09/2024 20:08

He’s beautiful!
The cat Henry we found ( or rather dogs did) was a Ginger with white chest.

He was so docile despite being in severe pain.

I think he ( and dogs) knew he was being helped - he could have clawed and bitten, but purred and was an absolute sweetie pie.

He had lovely, very grateful owners.

Just hope they were insured!

uhOhOP · 18/09/2024 01:37

Is it possible that where you stopped your car prevented the drivers from taking evasive action? Either way, perhaps hitting the cat was the least worst of all the options.

Er nope.
Driver could have done an emergency stop most likely, and why didn’t they stop?
They surely would have known that they’d hit something.

Arseholes.

However, it was a man who gave the injured cat and us a lift to vets so some men are kind to animals.

watchuswreckthemic · 19/09/2024 20:46

Just wanted to say what a lovely lovely person you are. I can't believe the other drivers actions and so glad the cat has now found his future forever humans x

Roryno · 19/09/2024 21:14

He’s lovely! We have a ginger boy (who also survived a car accident) and he’s such a friendly dude.

ScrollingLeaves · 19/09/2024 21:21

Well done for what you did. If I were his owner I would be so very grateful to you I would feel you were part of a miracle.

Your children must be so proud that you helped save him too.

I suspect some cars do it on purpose.

ScrollingLeaves · 19/09/2024 21:26

Sorry, I had not read all your updates. What lovely news.

MelainesLaugh · 20/09/2024 00:35

He definitely looks like a Pumpkin 💖

do you know how old he is?

Spenditlikebeckham · 20/09/2024 09:23

Angelo. If angels are real someone was watching over him. And you were sent to save him.

Stickytreacle · 20/09/2024 11:19

He's beautiful! I'm so pleased he has found a loving home with you 🥰

CleanShirt · 20/09/2024 11:23

I love him!!

Derpy face is because all orange cats share one brain cell - he was probably waiting for his turn.

Carouselfish · 20/09/2024 13:03

Sorry guys, he looked to dignified for Pumpkin. He's ended up as Angelo as per a pp's reason. That said our other cat has a lovely name but mostly gets called CatFace.

Dog update: Strange acting collington now being treated with strong painkillers for back injury. Poor chap. So had our share of emergency vet bills after all! No idea how he did it though.

*too.

Can also confirm eating well and doing neat leaps from the floor to various perches.
Has of course decided he will sleep on a pile of blankets on top of the bookshelf rather than in any of the three cat-beds.

Well that proves he is a cat, in case there was any doubt!
Welcome Angelo, have a long and happy life with your new underlings, may you bring them much joy 😸

My rescue cat preferred sleeping in a basket of rarely worn high heels on top of my wardrobe (I did add blankets for him) for his first year with us. He now sleeps on beds, sofas and chairs, but still rarely in his own bed. I am currently sat in the uncomfiest middle seat of the sofa with the cat on one side and the dog on the other.

Pudmyboy · 28/09/2024 21:47

It's been a week: how is Angelo settling in @Carouselfish ?

MrsCatE · 08/10/2024 03:54

Hello @Carouselfish I really hope all is going well and I'm sure not the only one who would welcome an update!

AskingQuestions45 · 08/10/2024 05:56

Thank God there are decent people like you in the world.

Because by your own testimony there was another car right behind him making an emergency stop risky. And again by your own testimony you parked on the other side of the road meaning if they had swerved they could have hit your car with your children inside.Advice is NOT to swerve or emergency stop for small animals in the road.I also think you may have inadvertently put your children's safety at risk for tge sake of a stranger's cat

Carouselfish · 08/10/2024 09:32

Again, we stopped up the road, well past him. The time it took me to realise what it was and pull over.

Had I been on their side, driving towards him at the actual speed limit, I would have seen a white shape on the black road from a long way back and had plenty of stop time. They were going too fast and they didn't care to slow down or stop or stop after the fact. He went up in the air both times. The back car would have seen this and could have stopped afterwards at least. The front car could have seen him initially from far off and slowed down to a stop on the long, straight road.

And any cars coming my side to endanger my children after Id pulled over would have seen us from a long way off, lights on, straight road 30mph.

So, sorry, they were arseholes.

PS. He is doing great. So friendly!!! He's getting the run of both cat areas now when original cat is out. He's also walked past our small dog and neither of them care.

I feel an mn diagram coming on...

Just an nb to my previous 'testimony' - it took me time to realise what it was and decide what I would do because I don't tend to drive along looking into the other lane as much as my own lane. Had he been my side of the road, I would have slowed and stopped before reaching him. Different thought processes if not on your side of the road.
