Keep your paws crossed that Penelope (also to be known as Pickle) will be right for Cheddar and arrive soon.
I'm a bit confused by her story, but she's an ex show cat. So hopefully will be healthy.
She's not yet in the rescue so we do t k ow her personality. But from what I've seen as show cats. They are pretty docile.

The rescue told me about her when O told them of Magic's death. And when I got to work that night. We had a patient called Penelope. So I take it as a sign!

I'm trying to speed it up a bit but the rescue is busy.

I think ear drops wouldn't be a problem with Girlcat, and wouldn't have been with Boycat. Both of them are/were really into me poking them in the ears & having a good scritch round inside them! Vet could hardly believe it when Boycat was there for his CKD checkups and I relaxed him by poking a finger in his ear & wriggling it around - the vet nurse tried it on her own cat when she got home & apparently she loved it too.

But I don't think I'll be trying anything like that with Tobias for a while yet!

Toddlerteaplease · 25/12/2023 17:41

She quite liked me picking all the dry crusts out. It was very satisfying. Grin

The cat sitter said that Cheddar still has no concept of personal space. Nope! I doubt she ever will.

She doesn't appear to have missed me.

I would say from that face that she's decided you no longer live there. It's her house now 😂

EDIT - before this thread fills up - in your first post you mentioned that she would be called Pickle rather than Penelope. Has she retained her original name?

Toddlerteaplease · 28/12/2023 09:45

@Pixiedust1234 she is officially registered as Penelope pickle. But Penelope has just stuck. It's such a daft long name for such a tiny cat. She put her paws up in my knees this morning. 🥰

I think Penelope Pickle is a good compromise. Pickle is obviously a good match with Cheddar but Penelope is now looking so sleek that the name really suits her.

Pixiedust1234 · 28/12/2023 20:05

I agree that Penelope suits her. I almost have visions of her being a byproduct of Penelope Pitstop and Dick Dastardly with his twirling moustache 😂

Or it could just be my weird brain that likes to do these weird image smashes 🤔

Toddlerteaplease · 28/12/2023 20:11

Her pedigree name is Pantheras Penelope. But since she could never in a million years be described as any variation of a Panther, I think it's best forgotten!

I got given an Alexa for Christmas. Penelope is climbing on me, so I asked Alexa why Penelope is a good name for a cat. Apparently it's good for a cat who waits patiently. 😹😹 She has absolutely no patience! Alexa was spot. on with Cheddar though. It's for a sweet and affectionate cat.

You and me both. However I do like reading about your kitties although I do like seeing the photos more. Again, I think that says a little bit too much about me ... 😮😄

YetAnotherSpartacus · 28/12/2023 23:45

I still like Miss Pickle.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/12/2023 11:46

Penelope's ear drops are now becoming a battle of wits. She knows exactly what the bottle looks like. And if I even look at them, she's off. Put them on the sofa last night and bided my time, till I thought she was asleep. She then sat in the doorway staring at me. And I knew exactly what she was thinking!

Scampuss · 30/12/2023 12:21

Haha, that's exactly what happens with flea drops for mine. She can read my mind.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/12/2023 12:59

She did allow mr to clip her front claws so that's not to bad!

Cats are absolute masters of avoiding medication. I once had a cat that kept getting nasty abscesses from squabbles with neighbourhood cats (he was a massive late neutered Tom but a lover not a fighter and got beaten up a lot by cats half his size!)

One abscess (on his bum by his tail) was particularly bad and after lancing and cleaning by the vet we had a spray to put on it to dry it up. It must have stung a bit as the first time we used it he hopped and leaped across the kitchen like a bucking bronco and shot out the catflap. It took two of us pinning him down & burrito wrapping him to use it after that. And thereafter, if he saw any vaguely bottle shaped receptacle being picked up, he scarpered. This included fly spray, hairspray and even Pringles!

I've just been reminded of something Maia did on my Facebook memories. And suddenly realised that if you crossed Maia with Cheddar, the result would be Penelope. She's so like both of them.

Awwww she's a beauty. I've really loved reading her adventures. I've had 3 exotics now, 2 retired breeders and a kitten that unfortunately we lost much to young to a road accident after an escape. They are such a wonderful breed with amazing personalities.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/01/2024 16:43

@ELCismyspiritnana do you have any photos? I love seeing pictures of other Persians.
Penelope is back at the vets tomorrow for a check on her ears. Though I realised yesterday, that the applicator on the bottle of drips was blocked. So not sure how long she's not been getting the drips for. Oops. But although she's always been asymptomatic, I think she is feeling much better. And for the first time. Both ears feel completely cold to touch.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/01/2024 16:44

They really are a wonderful breed. My previous two were ex breeders, in. Kitten farm. And it affected them their whole lives. Were yours affected by it? @ELCismyspiritnana

I have of my last one, will try to attach. The others are on my old phone. But my last boy was the son of the previous girl, and also the dad of the kitten, which we didn't know when we got each one but was a lovely connection.
Their breeder was a very good one and they were all healthy and had no issues. They loved being part of and having access to the while home though rather than just the couple of rooms or luxury heated pend. I was very lucky with them.

ELCismyspiritnana · 02/01/2024 19:33

This was the month before we lost him. He was 14.

Ears are much improved. Going to wean the drops slowly. Then stop and recheck a few weeks after stopping completely. She does need a dental after all, the vet spotted the reabsorption lesion that we found on her very first visit. And never saw again!
