Keep your paws crossed that Penelope (also to be known as Pickle) will be right for Cheddar and arrive soon.
I'm a bit confused by her story, but she's an ex show cat. So hopefully will be healthy.
She's not yet in the rescue so we do t k ow her personality. But from what I've seen as show cats. They are pretty docile.

The rescue told me about her when O told them of Magic's death. And when I got to work that night. We had a patient called Penelope. So I take it as a sign!

I'm trying to speed it up a bit but the rescue is busy.

I think a private human medication script costs around £25, at least that's what I was quoted when the ADHD consultancy screwed up my category as NHS, so probably abo9ut the same for a vet script?

Toddlerteaplease · 20/12/2023 08:33

It's Recicort eat drops. She will need a precise number of drops. That's going to be fun! Though she's pretty cooperative once captured!

First dose of drops given fairly successfully yesterday. She really didn't like it, but seems less bothered by them, than the cleaning drops. Looks like the cat sitter will be left with a long list of instructions. I really would rather not leave her, but am agog to see my parents new house. (And more importantly their darling cat!)

Scampuss · 21/12/2023 11:40

Glad it went well.

I imagine the cat sitter will welcome decent instructions!

Toddlerteaplease · 21/12/2023 11:44

The problem will be getting hold of her, she's still a bit timid. And as I'm discovering, she's really not stupid. I only had to move my hand towards the bottle yesterday, and she was off! If it was cheddar it would be really easy!

Welcome to the world of real cats Grin

It really makes me laugh, the way that Cheddar is completely oblivious to where Penelope is sitting, if she wants a fuss. Penelope was sitting on my chest this morning, in bed. And Cheddar just steamrollers over her. Or she'll just sit on top of her. Fortunately Penelope doesn't seem to mind.

That’s really cute.

😂😂 You are going to have sòooooo much fun over the next few years. Guaranteed.

A very intelligent cat i used to look after had her tablets wrapped up in ham/cheesespread with me. Every time I picked up her tablet bottle it rattled a bit and she would come bombing into the room and take the tablet immediately before trotting off with tail up. Every time her owner or girlfriend picked up the bottle she would come bombing in, skid to a stop, look at them in disgust and bomb back out again. They used to try and hide the tablets in her food 😂

SequentialAnalyst · 21/12/2023 21:49

@Pixiedust1234 are you 100% she swallowed the pills, and not just the ham/cheese spread?

Mind you, Midnight refused to eat meds ground up in her food. Hence me developing an elaborate routine involving prawns as rewards. I explained all this to Ex, who was to look after her at his while I was away. He ignored me and ground them up into her food. And she only went and ate the food!! Under the paw, that's what I was...

Toddlerteaplease · 22/12/2023 06:26

The late Maia was on 8 pills a day. I used a pill syringe thing, and she was as good as gold. She only spat them out if they hadn't gone down the first time.

Pixiedust1234 · 22/12/2023 17:47

Oh yes, 100% sure. You see i always offered a little bit of extra ham afterwards which involved her tilting her head back and her neck straight and slightly stretched so no pills were hidden under tongue or in cheek, and I watched her swallow that second portion. I'm cleverer and sneakier (I think 🤔)

Toddlerteaplease · 22/12/2023 19:10

They also behave better for other people. The cattery and cat sitters never had an issue with Maia.

Oh she's adorable Xmas Grin

Defiantlynot41 · 23/12/2023 00:24

Is she putting on weight, Toddler? She's looking so good now

Toddlerteaplease · 23/12/2023 06:38

Yes. She weighed 2.6kg at the vet the other week. And her coat has fluffed up and lost its spikey look.

Left a note for the cat sitter to say I'd already given Penelope her ear drops this morning. And she messaged me to check she's had them. But saw her on the camera giving them again. The dose is very specific and I'd only given them two hours before. Arghh! Having said that. I don't think I actually got them in her ear canal this morning or last night. Hope she's ok.

Pixiedust1234 · 24/12/2023 20:09

Are you trying to stealth brag that your new kitty is just so lovely and amenable that a newcomer can give her ear drops?? Without needing A&E??

Perhaps she isn't a real cat after all.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/12/2023 20:43

Well I must admit that I was amazed how easy she found it. She was as slippery as an eel when I tried it this morning. And I couldn't find her ear canal while trying to keep hold of her. She's never aggressive though!

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 24/12/2023 20:59

What was really sweet, was that Penelope jumped on the sofa and was clearly getting Cheddar to protect her!

OP posts:
SequentialAnalyst · 24/12/2023 21:57

Can you keep the footage, and see how she managed it?

Thankfully I have never had to give ear drops.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/12/2023 01:43

I suspect she cooperated because she was scared. In the same way, she did when k first got her. Now she is more confident with me, she makes a fuss.
