Oh darling Allergic, you are doing entirely the right thing for Boycat.

The last act of love, you’ve planned it brilliantly.

We know you’re a bit of a hero after you stopped that perv in his tracks. Your inner Boadicea is coming out again to protect Boycat to the very end.

Don’t worry about crying at work - we’ve all done it, especially men.

Prince rolled about on me all night after his op and is very restless today. Seems cheerful. Possibly wants Brunswick ham. Will try.

💐

So sorry to hear Boycat's news Allergic. We're here for you

TheShellBeach · 11/01/2023 11:41

So sorry to see your news about Boycat, Allergic. It's such a sad thing to have to decide but we have to face it eventually, and you know you're going to do the kindest thing for him.

I am so heartened to read what you said about your work and their attitude to this.

You have my sympathy.

iloveeverykindofcat · 11/01/2023 11:51

Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a quiet cat. Bibi is incredibly vocal and LOUD - she doesn't really meow, she has a whole range of noises ranging from mrrt, prrt, pfff! hmm, nnnhyeah?, meh. Usually employed at max volume around 4am, when she would prefer breakfast. Zara does meow. She's not quite as loud but her voice is naturally....kind of whingey. There's nothing wrong with her, that's just her voice. She's got a whingey meow. But they also both do a lot of loud purring.

Florissant · 11/01/2023 12:31

I'm sorry to hear the news, Allergic. I was in bits when I had to let my beloved Mr P go.

LostCats · 11/01/2023 12:39

Oh Allergic I am so desperately sorry.
We are all absolutely here for you ❤️🐈‍⬛

Allergictoironing · 11/01/2023 14:20

Thank you all so much for your comments. I'm having dreadful emotional tussles with the "when" question; sometimes I'm frightened that I'll get it wrong & he ends up suffering, whereas sometimes I feel like I'm going to get it wrong the other way.

I think it's his mental state I'm having the most problems with really rather than the physical - physical pain & distress is much easier to gauge. He definitely knows something isn't quite right with the restlessness, the vocalising, the need for even more cuddles, the odd times of him staring into nothing for ages. But at other times he seems fine - still eating (though not much), attacking the few Dreamies & stick treats he's allowed, chasing around with his sister when I'm trying to get to sleep, even still wrestling with her now & again. I tried again with the appetite stimulant and he really doesn't like me putting it on, usually he loves me doing anything to his ears but actually ran away today when I put it on.

I'm just so torn with this timing thing 😭

Rebel2023 · 11/01/2023 15:51

You will know, I promise
I knew with one of my horses, he just stopped in the yard when I was leading him and looked at me and told me
You have such a strong bond Flowers

coastergirl · 11/01/2023 15:53

Allergic I'm so sorry about Boycat. It's heartbreaking. I try and remember "better a day too soon than a day too late". It's so hard to know though.

I'm sorry for my absence from the thread. Still going through a really hard time personally. I'm reading, but lurking. If I'm honest, I'm finding it hard that there are so many new posters. Very unfair of me. Just hard to share when I'm struggling so much. Walter says hi. He's plodding along as usual with his very little brain. I'll post a photo.

coastergirl · 11/01/2023 15:54

Not letting me add a photo at the moment

YesItsMeIDontCare · 11/01/2023 16:15

I agree with Rebel that you'll know when he's ready. As for worrying about too soon? I'd rather go too soon than too late. He is surrounded by love and that's what matters.

Sending you love & strength Allergic (((hugs))) x.

Supersimkin2 · 11/01/2023 16:16

We can wait coaster 😺 keep powering on.

New friends are like starting a new school - worrying at first then 3 weeks later you can’t imagine living without.

HouseofHolbein · 11/01/2023 16:31

Sending love strength and sympathy @Allergictoironing 💕

iloveeverykindofcat · 11/01/2023 17:59

@YesItsMeIDontCare I agree. When we were growing up we had an old-style vet who was basically House in vet form: brilliant doctor, ran his own practice 24/7, once saved a dog of ours from what was then a rare parasite. Not so great with people, but he really did care for animals and for some reason had a liking for me. When we were having a conversation about putting a pet to sleep, he said he had a philosophy: "Better a week too soon than a day too late". Hugs to you @Allergictoironing . It really is the last best gift we can give them. Natural death is overrated.

Defiantlynot41 · 11/01/2023 18:22

Waves to @coastergirl - we are here when you're ready

RumNotRun · 11/01/2023 20:37

Sorry to hear your news @Allergictoironing and that you're struggling @coastergirl (BTW, I'm not a newbie, I just name changed).

Papergirl1968 · 11/01/2023 21:43

I'm so sorry to hear your update, Allergic.
There are no words but sending huge (()) and thinking of you x

Papergirl1968 · 11/01/2023 21:44

Hugs!

nettie434 · 11/01/2023 23:30

So sorry to read your news Allergic. I am so sorry that Boycat's health is getting worse. From what I've read here, his life was transformed when he moved in with you. That's such a wonderful gift. I am glad your new boss is supportive- at least you know that you can do what you think is best without worrying about any problem at work.

Hello coastergirl too. Sorry things aren't so great. Best wishes to you and Walter.

Papergirl1968 · 12/01/2023 16:25

My poor Matt is at the vets again.
I really thought he was going to die last night. He was being sick all day, cried out a few times in pain in the night, and was lying in the litter tray when I got home from work. He didn't eat or ask for food which is unheard of.
After his urine infection at Christmas, it seems this is some sort of blockage. He has had an anaesthetic and a catheter, and I can collect him in an hour.
It will be another £350, to add to the £350 at Xmas but he's worth every penny.

Poor sweetie. I hope he's feeling better noww.

Defiantlynot41 · 12/01/2023 17:29

Oh @Papergirl1968 so sorry to hear about Matt. Paws crossed for his recovery

LostCats · 12/01/2023 17:39

Oh no Paper!! The poor guy!
I really hope he recovers well now.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 12/01/2023 17:44

@Papergirl1968
Very sorry Matt is poorly. This is generally treatable (Basil has made a full recovery after his blocked urethra plus very expensive veterinary treatment 18 months ago). Fingers crossed Matt will be the same. 💐
