Grumpyoldpersonwithcats that is odd you’re right. But maybe they’re trying to get a full picture of his abilities in order to ensure his education is fully covered or alternatively trying to place him in the correct group?
But it is v odd.

LostCats · 06/06/2022 11:45

Oh no worries. I’ve booked anyway as you’re right. It’s an old bite now. But thank you so much

Hope your cat feels better after his Vet trip , I'm guessing he'll have antibiotic injection to get him started then you;ll have the fun of wrestling tablets into him !
An old bite isn't neccessarily a good one , it might have scabbed over but the fact its now leaking pus , you don't know how deep it is and there's the risk of it spreading .
Cats have the worst sense of timing when to be ill !

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/06/2022 11:51

@LostCats
Hope all goes well - One of our cats had a vile abscess a while ago (cat bite) and the bill was enormous. 🙀
They always manage it over bank holiday weekends...

LostCats · 06/06/2022 12:00

Thank you so much. Argh. I’m dreading the pill insertion. And from what I’ve read he’s going to need The Cone. Sigh

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/06/2022 12:07

The vicar was cold called. Not sure who it was but we think it may have been from the college councillor.
There will been nothing other than positivity from his referees (or the vicar for that matter).

Supersimkin2 · 06/06/2022 12:12

Yes, irregular. I’d react by being livid and a bit freaked out. Then Remember Academics thrive on Bitchery but are mostly harmless. Also, could have been friendly enquiry from someone looking forward to teaching DS.

I’d ask the vicar what he said about DS. And the questions the enquirer asked. Jot down. Who was enquirer?

Let vicar in on it cos this has put vicar in embarrassing predicament he prob knows 0 about. Vicar has range of actions available including doing O, cos maybe was a friend of his or something. Vicar should obv declaim DS as next Bach.

They can’t take the scholarship away, presumably. And not even a brainbox would be daft enough to try.

Supersimkin2 · 06/06/2022 12:13

x post. Hmmm. Maybe working out which rooms for DS?

Supersimkin2 · 06/06/2022 12:15

Or asking if DS is religious? That’s pushing it a touch.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/06/2022 12:20

Maybe working out which rooms for DS?
The organ scholar gets a specific room (ok - it's an Oxford college).
Assuming it was the college councillor, (vicar could only remember her first name) she's not done a great job at putting him at his ease 🤣.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/06/2022 12:25

Or asking if DS is religious?
Wouldn't have thought they'd be allowed to ask that? Anyway he had an interview with the college chaplain as part of the application process.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/06/2022 12:27

If you are sure the scholarship is watertight you could call and inquire if everything is alright.

Supersimkin2 · 06/06/2022 12:31

counsellor = idiot. 😀

the only person I know who got similar ticket is a rampant atheist btw.

I don’t know if you complain or not - life’s too short on the one hand, on the other hand she’s a cheeky git. Deeply unprofessional and unimpressive behaviour.

Keep notes and share with vicar tho cos it’s a cringer for him/her. Vicar could always complain.

Is there a chapel cat?!

Supersimkin2 · 06/06/2022 12:35

If you do want to call, get the vicar to do it.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/06/2022 12:40

Actually, yes. Ask the Vicar to do it. The Vicar was put in a fairly awkward position and they could possibly call back just saying this and asking why they were called when they now understand they were not an official referee.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/06/2022 12:41

aaarrgghhhh - I put in the wrong spelling of counsellor. (Thanks Super). I shall impale myself on my pedantic sword.

Yes there is a college cat 😼

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/06/2022 12:41

Is there a chapel cat?!

Surely this is compulsory?

nettie434 · 06/06/2022 12:43

Grumpy I'm also surprised the college counsellor phoned the vicar. It's odd because I could imagine them phoning your son about practicalities- e.g. I know that organ scholars tend to be given large ground floor rooms, ideally sound proofed - but why contact the vicar and why not tell your son they were doing this? Could it even have been a scam?

It might be worth asking the admissions tutor perhaps?

Good luck at the vets Lostcats.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/06/2022 13:00

@Supersimkin2
I've PM'd you.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/06/2022 13:48

FFS.
Looked out of the back window to see a duck who thought it was a great idea to play in the garden with her large brood of ducklings.
Having already disposed of a dead blue tit this morning, this didn't seem a great idea, so I gently persuaded them to go back into the river. I just know they'll be back...

To a life well spent – RIP Cap'n V
Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/06/2022 13:54

And thanks all for your advice. I'm suggesting to DS that he contact the counsellor (but I don't think he will...).
He's over 18, it's his call.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/06/2022 15:15

He’s a bit nervous about speaking up perhaps? I would’ve been too at his age. I’m sure nothing bad would’ve been said by the vicar though. Waiting for A levels is awful though.

Mallards are such bad parents. The tabby cat from over the road was having a stand off with Puddys nemesis this morning over the front garden of our house. To the victor, the best hiding spot for bird watching. Binoculars not included. Free carcass storage included.

MsOllie · 06/06/2022 16:07

Ollie is prancing about in ma bush, covered in dead twigs and bits of leaf

LostCats · 06/06/2022 17:54

Back from vet. Less than I had expected! So relieved. Was abscess. Tried not to be sick in vets room. However she is so wonderful, our vet, that she knew pills and Boone are simply a no (we’ve had to pay them for pill insertion in the past as it’s so bad), so he got a 2 week antibiotic injection. However the wound area was shaved. And it’s extremely disgusting so I’m trying to avert my eyes when he walks past. He is however so so much happier 💙it was absolutely worth it

LostCats · 06/06/2022 17:54

Precious, beloved boy.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/06/2022 18:18

Cats are fast healers luckily! Mine would rub his head on me when he had a head abscess. Grim.
