I remember that Mary Portas series. She changed one of those shops that sell all manner of fabric things like tea towels, cushion covers, curtains etc. The sort of place where customers could have a good rummage brouse. And changed it all to a sterile shop, all overly neat. I suspect their customer base were not impressed.

I’ve just googled portas to confirm my suspicions & she is a dog person. She always came across as a difficult person to work with.

Was it the duchess of Cornwall’s brother who raised money for elephants by saying “they need it more than you you tight bastards”.

The snake went back over the fence into the Broads. Again. I'm sure another will reappear soon . I can deal with most things, just not snakes!

I remember this wonderful little village shop where you could buy anything from a spade to a teapot. She modernised it and sucked out it’s soul. I also remember the charity shop episode. Again she destroyed its being and replaced it with a lifeless shop-droid. Awful.

Just so you have an idea of what we have to work through... our sorting area has 4 big pens and the overflow generally looks like this.

We are a tiny shop but in a convenient drop off position. This is going to be the hardest part of going back.

I have stuff to go to charity but am leaving it to let the shops clear some space. It’s been here for —years— months anyway, so a bit longer won’t matter!

@Papergirl1968 might be worth phoning your local shop when you are ready to drop stuff in... once we have cleared the backlog which actually won’t take long with the shop shut and nothing coming in for a week... we will accept one pens worth of donations per day. When we have reached our limit we will be refusing stuff.

Lots of places are doing similar plus restricted opening hours so a call before you set out would save you a potentially wasted journey 🙂

Queen, I just saw an article in the Mail Online about Bombay cats. I’d never heard of them so googled them and the Wikipedia page has photos of cats which look just like Ollie (although the one in the Mail doesn’t particularly).
One of their characteristics is that they are needy and chatty!
Could we have found Ollie’s tribe?

I've just looked up Bombay cats, Papergirl1968. I'd never heard of them either. I do hope that Ollie is not going to lord it over Paws now we have discovered he is mostly Bombay.

Agree with Supersimkin2 about the posh desk. It's so discreet. I used to be quite happy with the dining table but am heartily sick of it now.

Cats have never quite got over themselves since the days when they were worshipped by the ancient Egyptians!
I can see Ollie in particular holding forth on the design of the pyramids, musing aloud on which chariot is faster, and debating fishing rights on the Nile while the pharaohs marvel at the amazing and wise talking cat.

It was delivered within 2 days (the desk) and mega easy to assemble so I'm very pleased with it! No dining table so I had to buy something and figured it might as well look nice

I’ve got a basic pine dining table on which I’ve been doing an online course for the last week. By god the chairs are uncomfortable!

I’ve heard about Bombay’s as a breed but didn’t know about the clinginess.
