I've just undertaken the appalling task of clearing the topsoil from the plant pots on the balcony, some of which are those vast terracotta ones that weigh more than a bus. Mr C has been watering the plants for some time. I suspect they've had enough natural fertiliser too. Nice fresh Waitrose compost arriving for furry Monty Don to get busy with tomorrow.

Kept catching sight of flies, so I took action - turns out they're flower flies, attracted to the riot of blooms, not anything to do with, er, waste. You so rarely see them in London I didn't recognise them.

He got a mood on because I swept and disinfected the balcony. Is disinfecting it neurotic? I only chucked some dettol-y water down, mostly to clear the drain. He says it is.
