What makes your cat happy?

Here, in no particular order, it's :

A very tall scratching pole
8 meals a day
A boiling hot, sunny conservatory
A dab of butter on the paw
A busy birdtable
NOT going to the cattery anymore
A spot of milk on the nose
A flat immobile lap
A clean latrine

Yep two of them. He says he looks "stoopid"

PurpleKittyKnitting · 17/06/2018 11:12

Aww, it does look stupid for a bit but not for long!

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 17/06/2018 11:18

Well, as long as NT's cat is a happy one, that's all that matters, I suppose!

People talk about cats being aloof, but as Candy and Olli say above, and we know here, it's not always the case. ML is very bonded to his humans, and for him that's been a long time coming after a tough early life.

Pebblespony · 17/06/2018 11:23

Always wanting to go out when he's inside.

Always wanting to come in when he's outside.

Waking the baby by yowling.

Generally being a (lovable) jerk.

Ollivander84 · 17/06/2018 11:33

Aloof?! Don't make me laugh Grin

What makes your cat happy?
MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 17/06/2018 11:44

I hear you, Pebbles! We don't get much sleep here with a DC, so if ML starts his lonely song and wakes us up, and keeps us awake despite heads under pillows, and risking waking DC up too, it's agony! Also, in the day he'll want to be in one room with us, so we get up and let him in and all settle down again, only for ML to decide he wants to be let out to another room, so we get up and let him out, all settle down again, only for him to want to come back in again, and on it goes. Infuriating if you're trying to read a book, watch the TV, or put your feet up for just 5 minutes. We've said the only solution is to fit catflaps in all internal doors, because we like to keep them closed, especially in winter.

The open field we live next to, it's like a mouse supermarket !

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 17/06/2018 11:57

Having said that, today's happipuss is...

Curling up on my lap while I enjoy an early morning cuppa in peace before the DCs decend on us. This is double happipuss for him, because from my comfy lap he can also keep an eye on the birdtable, (rather than having to sit on the less comfy windowsill), before dropping his head and starting to gently snore.

Cat 1
Tickling my nose with her whiskers at 5am. If that doesn't raise me, sitting on my face does.
Eating, eating and more eating
Stealing food.
Terrorising the dog.
Creeping behind the bed when I've pulled it out and refusing to move.
Living in the bottom of my wardrobe

Cat 2
Being a black ninja!
Dodgy canned cat chicken. Won't touch freshly cooked chicken breasts.
Eating flies and spiders
Eyeballing you so you're too scared to move.
Loves her bum hole being tickled
Also sleeping in my wardrobe but removing all the clothes first!

susurration · 17/06/2018 12:14

Cats are such funny little things!

Suscat loves:
Tuna
When husband gets in bed so she can lie on his chest
Butterflies
Catnip
Mr Nextdoor's Dad
Head scratches
Playing pat-a-cake through the bannister on the stairs.

susurration · 17/06/2018 12:15

And a recently discovered love of Ben and Jerry's ice cream!

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 17/06/2018 14:24

'A mouse supermarket', Sparkles - that's a stealable expression! ML has a particular kind of reaction when a mouse is on the birdtable, climbing plants or windowsill and that's how we know there's one there. We say he's 'just window shopping' when he's watching the birdtable. He can look, but he can't chase catch toy with kill eat buy!

Love it Emma!

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 17/06/2018 19:03

That is either a rare breed Bucket-Headed cat, or Emma has one happy and lucky moggy, with that giant amount of Dreamies.

Ah yes, sus, it's the empty icecream, yoghurt or cream pot here. Sometimes ML sticks his nose right in and there's a spot of it on his nose when he reappears. At these moments we call him Nicole Purrzinger. Happy days.

OP posts:
MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 17/06/2018 19:32

Do tell Cat 2 not to forget moths too, yaff. We can always tell when ML is staring at one of us. You can feel his eyes drilling into the back of your head. Someone will say 'he's staring at me, isn't he?!' And we're always right. Unlike your Cat 1, it's not whiskers or sitting on to wake us up. With ML, he sticks his wet nose right into your face and sniffs. If that doesn't work he boffs you with his paw, starting off gently and tentatively, but increasing in strength. He seems to need to check whether you have died or not if ever your eyes are closed for any reason, and for this reason he isn't allowed in bedrooms at night!

MrsGrindah · 17/06/2018 19:32

Can I join even though we had to say goodbye to our darling girl almost a year ago?
She loved
DHs chest fur
Having her fur brushed with a hairbrush ( NOT a pets brush!)
Dipping her paw into a mug of cold tea and furiously licking her paw.
Tuna. Cheese. Ice cream.
The ironing board ( sitting under it whilst you do the ironing)
My Mum ..who is also sadly not with us so I like to think they are both looking after each other somewhere

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 17/06/2018 19:34

Of course you can join in Mrs Flowers

When my husband comes home. She's daddy's girl, and only tolerates me as provider of biscuits.

Emma198 · 17/06/2018 22:40

@purple @mini he's a prolific dreamie stealer. In fact they both are. Known to knock the bags off the kitchen worktop so they go everywhere then they hoover them all up.

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 18/06/2018 07:08

If only just Dreamies, Emma. Cat Burglar Extraordinaire here. ML will seek it out, carry it off no matter how big or heavy, use his teeth to get in, and tuck in. Stealing just about any sort of food makes ML happy if not his humans! We try to be sympathetic because he knew real hunger in the past, and maybe that experience never goes away, but suspect after several years of good, reliable food, he's just a natural thief and greedy guts!

OP posts:
MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 18/06/2018 07:17

I've never heard of a tea-drinking cat before, Mrs! ML thinks about it, because he knows there's milk in there, but never has. I'm very sorry for your losses. Yes, they're together, and possibly drinking tea! BrewFlowers

Good morning all. Today's happipuss is....

Two of your humans getting up at dawn, which means that you get your breakfast and birdwatching opportunities AT THE CORRECT TIME and not at lazy, inconvenient, inconsiderate human time. At last, some of my many needs are understood. Human training is progressing.

Ski37 · 18/06/2018 20:48

Today mine is over the moon to have a new toy to play with- the price tag from a new t shirt that was attached by a piece of string. He won’t leave it alone! If only I’d known this from the start..... it would have been much cheaper for me to buy more new clothes for myself rather than the expensive cat toys he shows interest in for all of 10 minutes before they get consigned to his toy box never to be played with again 😂

MiniLeopardInTheHouse yes to the galloping!!! Some days mine will just run about the garden like a little hairy maniac, pouncing on invisible prey before galloping off again. It seems to happen more on windy days, maybe the grass waves in a particularly enticing manner or maybe he just likes the feel of the wind in his fur.... either way it makes me laugh watching him 😂
