What makes your cat happy?

Here, in no particular order, it's :

A very tall scratching pole
8 meals a day
A boiling hot, sunny conservatory
A dab of butter on the paw
A busy birdtable
NOT going to the cattery anymore
A spot of milk on the nose
A flat immobile lap
A clean latrine

Terf's harrumphing is interesting. We definitely get a huff from ML when he's, well, got the huff.

It’s a sort of pining miaow. She’s not a very vocal cat (unless she’s demanding food) but she will talk to him for ages. He doesn’t reply though, just watches her. She doesn’t miaow at any other cats either, it’s all very strange Hmm

Misty has occasionally sighed at me, I never knew that was possible! I think it was a Sunday morning and he had tried to get me up with his gentle dabbing at my face. His breakfast is in a timer dish so I didn't move, then came the sigh!

All of the above, plus shagging my clothes.

Terf's harrumphing is interesting.

It's quite funny: he makes a distinctly human-sounding 'harrrumph' sound when he is nonplussed.

TerfCat is a feline of Many Opinions, all of which must be expressed at full volume.

Oooh can I join in with new kitty antics please?

Erica loves:
Cuddles
Chasing flies
Chasing leaves
Carrying a little ball around in her mouth like a dog
Sitting on laptop keyboards
Nibbling unsuspecting toes
And today she tried to go to sleep across my shoulders.

What makes your cat happy?

You're very welcome to join the Happipuss thread, Massi, especially with a cute little critter like that. Of course she'll seem less cute when she stops chasing flies and starts catching and eating them, yuck! Bluebottle snacks, though helpfully solving the rural fly problem, is one of ML's more disgusting habits - it makes him happy but us less so. Like jax's clothes-humping kitty, they don't all stay that sweet and innocent forever, do they?!

I think that our cats must have gone to the same School of Cats, Terf. The opinions, the volume, the human sounds. All very familiar. ML has a whole range of noises, including the huff, a sigh like Purple's, and also an aww, all meant to relay his feelings of disappointment in his humans. Your harrumphing sounds particularly skilled in this regard. We exist to serve, but at times we fall short.

Yes I'm sure she'll stop being this cute soon! I'll enjoy it while I can!

DH less than impressed that she likes to pull his tshirts off the clothes horse to sleep on!

Loves the fillet steak he had for tea (reduced in Morrisons so we shared it).
Also loves the weather to be nice enough to leave the back door open.
The garden is rather overgrown at the moment and that also meets with approval.

You do realise, Paper, that you have raised the bar on the Happipuss thread with your fillet steak and jungle?! We'll all have to ostracise you now or up our own games. All our previously happy cats will be packing their bags and moving in with you. Either that or they'll stay with us yet be openly even more dissatisfied with the service at home than usual.

Ha, ML I need to get one of those signs that says a very spoilt cat lives here. The little prince is currently reclining on the sofa with back legs on dd’s cosy dressing gown and being hand fed pate on toast Grin

Having thought about upping my game with ostrich steaks served to ML reclining in his new mink-lined catbed by long-eyelashed, bejeweled lady cats with floofy tails, it's back down to earth on this sunny, warm Friday.

Today's happipuss is...

Opening a brand new bag of Vet's Kitchen 80% Chicken, and ML immediately sticking his nose right in with the sheer joy of the strong scent of fresh biscuits. Any first opening of fresh biscuits will do, it doesn't have to be Vet's Kitchen. It's just that one today. I'm guessing ML feels like I do when I first open a fresh pack of coffee. He breathes in deeply and all is well in his furry world.

Sitting on my knees while I was on the toilet this morning! She purred - only the 4th time in 2 years! (The cat with no voice)

Report
MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 22/06/2018 22:30

Ahh, Lady's, does she not meow too, or just not purr? We've only heard loud purring 2 or 3 times in about 3 years. Otherwise we can only usually tell that ML is purring by putting an ear to him and feeling the vibrations. He makes up for it by being possibly the loudest shouting cat in the world.

LadysFingers · 23/06/2018 07:37

No, she just opens her mouth to miaow, but no sound comes out - it's like watching a cat in an old silent film! Sometimes, I can put my hand on her throat and feel the vibrations of purring, but it's very rare it's audible. She does get happy, because she is very affectionate - right now, she is lying on my chest, pushing her nose onto mine!

I did hear her growl at a mouse once though. I wonder if making a noise takes her far more effort?

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 23/06/2018 16:42

I think, Ladys, that she's given her share of voice to ML, and I wish she'd take it back😼

Today's happipuss is...

Quite simply, the weather 🌞

The patches of sun to stretch out in, the shadows to hide in, the flies and butterflies to chase, the heat trap inbetween the curtains and window to bask in. Cat bliss. And it doesn't even put him off his food, (but what does).

Murder and mutilation Angry

I love him but I hate it. 2-4 bodies a day. Yet he's never scratched or bitten anyone, not even a vet. He's more than a year old but I've never heard him growl. Perhaps I find it more surprising as my last cat was a psychopath yet didn't touch prey once she'd killed it (or rather, stunned it, she was an anti-cat and caught things to humanely release within the house/grounds for our pleasure. Little shit. I miss her.)

I think the only reason I'm not writing a post like your's, Christina, is that ML has to be kept indoors/garden enclosure. Otherwise it would be carnage. Sorry for the loss of your old girl Flowers

It sounds like your cat is just happy being evil, Mad. Either that or you've not yet tapped into his/her inner happy. Plenty of ideas on this thread. Grin

Today's happipuss is...

Dashing at speed over to an accidentally dropped nearly full big bag of biscuits, and hoovering up as many as possible before your butter-fingers human scoops them all back up and shoos you away. 😸

Then needing a good long snooze with your big satisfied belly, as it's the fastest you've moved for days because of the heat. 😼
