The litter tray

What makes your cat happy?

Here, in no particular order, it's :

A very tall scratching pole
8 meals a day
A boiling hot, sunny conservatory
A dab of butter on the paw
A busy birdtable
NOT going to the cattery anymore
A spot of milk on the nose
A flat immobile lap
A clean latrine

Fighting Sad She just wants to murder everything that moves. This time she’s earned a torn ear and a scratch over her eye. She’s such a beautiful, dainty little thing but she’s a real scrapper.

You've got to admire her spirit, Tooth, if not her sentiment or vet's bills! I had experience of a similar bruiser in the past, (RIP). He was a carefully bred pedigree, but there was nothing dainty about him, and we were always at the vet with gruesome fighting abscesses. He was very gentle in the home, but nothing made him happier than terrorising other cats, vets and passing dogs, (and curling up to sleep alongside his sister on top of the family dog).

Today's happipuss is....

Sleeping. Just sleeping. Oh, and giving his humans a bit of a fright into the bargain. Usually he perks up whenever he hears somebody come home, or come into the room he's sleeping in, or just moving about or talking somewhere in the house. Any opportunity to have company, be fed, played with, a lap to curl up on, whatever, he takes. Not at the moment though. He just sleeps. He might open one eye with a slightly glazed expression in your general direction, but that's it. It's as if he's thinking, 'meh, I just can't bothered'. We got quite worried about it at one point yesterday, but he's fine. It's just the heat. I remember the (distant, pre-DCs) days when I used to get like that on a sunbed given half the chance. All he needs is a drink with an umbrella in it in his paw. 😸🍹🌞

Today's happipuss is...

Moths!

He can chase and eat all the house moths he likes for me - this weather is causing the rotters to multiply!

I haven't had it with my cats over the years, luckily. A litter tray with a hood on always seems to help here. I have it to contend with quite a bit though, (plus prey dead or alive), as we cat sit for a few friends - for example one multi cat household where there's often pee everywhere, another where there's a cat like your's - a present on the kitchen floor quite often. So I feel your pain, Bel, well, a bit! Start a thread about it - we'll all learn something. FlowersBrewCake

Sleeping is mostly the favourite but also:

  • boiling hot conservatory
  • fresh chicken (mind your fingers though while feeding)
  • fresh fish (as above)
  • cheese
  • egg fried rice
  • laser pen
  • as many toy mice as is possible to own
  • a paper bag (best toy ever!)

Sitting on the roof of our 4 storey house.
Kicking out yoghurt pots after staring at us while we eat the yoghurts.
Lying on a huge pile of freshly ironed clothes.
Sitting on the bottom shelf of the wardrobe and hardly breathing when I open the door.
Having her tummy rubbed for hours.
Lying just out of sight in a step halfway down the stairs so that you have to stumble to avoid standing in either of them.
Being carried around by my husband....our male cat is besotted with him. 😀

The egg fried rice made me laugh, Daisy. Also the thought of her being a toy mouse Collector, with display cabinets and alphabetized drawers. We have a sitter in crinkly bags here.

Do any of our cats ever sleep on the dirty laundry?! Only clean will do here, too. And do any of our cats ever take the major treats gently?! It's definitely a case of feeder beware and mind the gnashers here. No manners at all when it comes to fresh chicken, ham and Dreamies. Is her paper bag scrunched up to chase about, or is it a large one she sits in?!

We have hounds who can't be left in cars even for 10 minutes in this weather, yet cats who thrive in boiling hot conservatories to the point they could actually spontaneously combust.

Big paper bags are laid on their side on the floor, open, with a toy mouse inside. Cue much stalking, bum wiggling then launching into the bag while sliding across the wooden flooring. It's a great game!

I tried her on plain rice the other day but she wasn't having it. Must have egg in it to be eaten! Diva!

I can imagine your diva with the Chinese takeaway menu, meowing 'I'll have the number 73 please, my slave'.

Crikey fun, how do they get up and down from your roof, and how does your BP cope? One heck of a view of their Kingdom though.

It sounds like they're playing hide and seek with you in the wardrobe, holding their breath so they won't be found?!

ML likes to go downstairs and upstairs ahead of us, fun, every time. I'm not sure if he's leading or checking for danger. If we're all going, it's like a crocodile of children on a school trip, with ML as the teacher. If we're a bit slow, he'll stop and wait for us halfway. Of course this leads to a foot up the furry bum, a trodden-on tail or stumbling humans when we catch up with him, and either side fails to realise.

Today's happipuss is....

Finding half a ginger moustache from DC's dressing up set, and stalking it! So excited his tail went floofy.

Today's happipuss is...

16 meals a day, up from 8. It's this weather. Usually nothing is wasted, not a single morsel, but food seems to be going off in an instant at the moment with the heat. I'm having to put half his usual amount down, which he scoffs, but he's not actually eating any less, he's just demanding another meal in half the time.

It's making him happy, but he obviously thinks I've got nothing better to do than feed him fresh food almost constantly. It almost takes me back to having human babies and feeding on demand.

Just remembered this old thread, and decided to liven it up again.

Today, ML is happy because, suddenly, it's Autumn and so the heat and thicker quilts are on. Warm cat bliss.
