Evening all, this is a new thread all about gorgeous Heidi, following on from the thread started by Gatekeeper.

We answered her thread call to give this tiny kitty a new home and we drove from Devon to Durham and back in 24hours to do so...

Now Heidi is settling well at our place after being looked after perfectly by Gatekeeper, and this thread is all about the new life of a very little and brave cat with the bushiest tale known to catkind!

If anyone can link to the original thread it would be much appreciated :)

Morning all...well, Heidi is getting fatter and I'm thinking that she got caught that time she escaped :(

Vets is this week so no doubt will confirm. She's constantly either eating or hunting for food, she's stopped yowling and is much more affectionate, so from reading online it sounds like she's pregnant :(

I feel like such a bad cat owner. All my cats (girls or toms) have always been done as I think it's irresponsible to bring more kittens into the world when so many need homes, yet here we (possibly) are. I wish she could have been spayed that day. I wish the window hadn't been left open. I wish I'd pushed the vet for an immediate alternative.

Feeling very very down this morning about it all.

shhhfastasleep · 14/01/2018 11:59

Take it one step at a time. Talk to the vet to see how early on this is. Deep breath.

BluebellTheDonkey · 14/01/2018 12:02

Don't feel down. You did none of this deliberately. You only have love for Heidi, and have just been caught out by circumstances. I have read on here about cats having a spay and abort operation, I don't know how you'd feel about that. Have a good chat with the vet. But don't feel down. She's a very lucky cat to have such a loving owner, she's just keeping you on your toes!

StewPots · 14/01/2018 12:04

Also I'm worried what strain it will put on Heidi if she is pregnant. I'm so worried about it all and disappointed in myself :(

StewPots · 14/01/2018 12:06

DH is more positive thinking she's getting fat because maybe we feed her too much but I'm much more skeptical.

BulletFox · 14/01/2018 12:21

At least you'll find out soon, don't fret.

IShouldntPostBut · 14/01/2018 13:57

Set up one of those online funding thingies, and set up new ones as you need it. I'll contribute as soon as it's up. "Heidi's Fund"! She has lots of loving friends!

Gatekeeper · 14/01/2018 16:29

ohh Stew...don't blame yourself . Only a matter of time before she managed to get out...don't forget she was living rough for a time before we took her in and she didn't get 'caught' then so it might be all the chicken dinners she is scoffing. That and contentment

Vet will confirm and I'm sure will give plenty of advice. I can imagine your upset and worry though
please keep us updated xxx

Gatekeeper · 18/01/2018 17:02

Hi Stew...any news from thw vet yet?

fourfuckssake4 · 20/01/2018 19:50

Can we have a Heidi update please

thecatneuterer · 20/01/2018 23:59

Even if she is pregnant there is no reason whatsoever that she should continue to be so. A spay/abort would undoubtedly be the best option. Not all vets will do it, but many will. It would certainly be the best thing for her, for you, and for the cat population in general.

Gatekeeper · 21/01/2018 06:19

the catneuterer Heidi has a heart murmur ans can't havw anaesthetic

thecatneuterer · 21/01/2018 10:53

Ah. I see. I must read the full thread. There must be something they can do at least to stop this happening in future. Contraceptive injections certainly exist.

Hi all,

Sorry for the lack of anything this week, we've had a bit of a rough ride. Had to cancel the vets on Wednesday due to the storm causing problems for DH's boat and livelihood.

The high tides caused the boat to plunge into the harbour wall knocking off the bowsprit. Beating in mind the boat is 97ft long and weighs about the same in tonnage so not a little thing to be fixed in a garage unfortunately. Thought I could reschedule for a Saturday morning appointment (vets does a weekend surgery but only until midday) but all booked up and then they only do emergencies after that.

I also had a migraine attack for the first time in months this week which left me wiped out and needing to call in sick to work! Quite the week here.

So, hopefully we will go THiS Wednesday. I'm really hoping for a better quieter week!

Heidi is fine :) she is running in the kitchen every time one of us goes near there in the hope she will be fed more Dreamies or some sort of scraps

She didn't leave my side when I was in bed for 24hrs with the migraine bless her. Well except to toilet and eat anyway.

Sorry if I've been slack for updating here but as you can see it's been a bit hectic!

And @thecatneuterer yes I had read about that. I feel awful about the whole situation, I really did my best to keep her in but it wasn't enough. To be honest I'm still feeling really crappy about it because I know the situation with stray or homeless cats and overrun shelters.

I found out about the murmur when I took her to be spayed because in my mind that was the priority but it couldn't be done. If she is pregnant now we will have to deal with it as best we can, and see what options are available afterwards.

@Gatekeeper thanks lovely xx it's just a bit of a nightmare. I'm really hoping it's just pure greed with the weight Grinbut knowing our luck right now I doubt it!

@stewpots sorry to hear you've had a bad run of it of late, don't beat yourself up you've been nothing but a loving owner to Heidi, I hope the boat get sorted soon, thoughts are with you

StewPots · 21/01/2018 15:45

@overnightangel Thank you :) DH am his wonderful crew of volunteers are on the case, another bowsprit end is being made at the barn and will hopefully fitted for the start of the new sailing season.

Didn't help that the cleats holding the lines had come loose. DH did everything right with the lines etc but all it took was a loose cleat screw and the boat was shoved into the wall. Bloody nightmare.

Ended up in DH and some crew going down to the boat regularly in the early hours in the wind and rain for a few nights to see the boat down to the bottom and back up again (she's currently being dried out and cleaned). Not long until she's off the grid now but just added to the week.

Sorry, hijacking my own cat thread with boat talk!

OP posts:
overnightangel · 21/01/2018 16:03

Don't worry I know nothing of boats so interesting to learn something new!
I hope things are up and running soon, never underestimate what you've done for Heidi 🙂

StewPots · 21/01/2018 16:36

Here she is right now, sat in the kitchen hoping something from the stir fry I'm making lands on the floor 🙄😁

Overnightangel haha I know right? And then I opened a packet of sauce and she bounded up to the side 🙄 I swear she's worse than my dog was Grin

Just read your update. So sorry to hear of all your troubles. Hope everything sorts itself out soon and good luck when you make it to the vets. Heidi looks lovely as always!
