My poor darling Kenneth is sleeping.
He disappeared for two nights last Thursday/Friday. We were beside ourselves. He's an Oriental, very closely bonded with DS2 and never goes further than next door to watch Homes Under the Hammer through their French windows.
I called for him constantly, searched everywhere, vets etc. Put multiple missing posts on FB. Flyers through doors the lot.
Sat night I was still calling, calling, calling. I heard the tiniest reply. He was over the back fence.
Oh my dear god what a state he was in. How he'd managed to drag himself home beggars belief.
It looks like he'd been caught in barbed wire, Ripped to shreds, a massive wound in his abdomen and stretching down his leg. He'd been out in all that heat for two nights suffering and worst of all the flies had been at his wounds. You can guess the rest.
My poor, poor boy.
Our vet saved his life, she operated into the early hours and had to remove masses of infected and dead skin and try and stitch him back together. She said another 12 hours and he wouldn't have made it.
He's not out of the woods but my god what a brave little cat he is. We have him home and he has head butted us, the other cats and the dogs. It was so touching to see.
I'm convinced it was his love for us and our love for him that gave him the strength to fight and get home.
Sorry it's so long. Here he is on a much better day and hopefully soon he'll be back to his old self.
