Snorgmaiden has been admitted to the emergency vets with a high temperature, conjunctivitis, and enlarged stomach and enlarged lymph nodes. Thought something was t right last night but not overly worried. Slightly worried this morning but thought I was being neurotic. Took one look at her when I got home from work and straight to the emergency vets. Hopefully an infection but worst case may be lymphoma. She's having loads of tests Tonight and they will ring me later. Need my hand holding you lovely lot. Sad

Agreed. The underlying issue is a problem - if it's still there.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2017 17:42

Vino, was the appetite sustained after the effects had worn off or was he ok after that.

Big cheer for Snorg - keep going in the right direction little girl!

Vinorosso74 · 24/02/2017 18:27

When she was really poorly a couple of years back she was on two appetite stimulants (mirtazapine being one) and a feeding tube (post op). She did gradually start eating on her own as we reduced the appetite stimulants. I can't remember how long exactly but it certainly wasn't overnight and we were just advised to offer any food to get her eating. She was also on steroids after that which increase the appetite too.
The last time she had a slight infection and went off her food so only had one dose of the mirtazapine. The antibiotic injection kicked in and she felt better.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2017 18:41

Was hoping to come back to an empty food bowl but don't think she's had any more. But she rarely eats in the day anyway. She's got mertazipine. Feeling a bit disheartened With all this. Trying to sort out four feeds a day when you work 13 hour shifts is very difficult. She seems bright enough though.

I do have a face!

Poorly Snorgmaiden. Hand hold please.

HemanOrSheRa · 24/02/2017 20:48

Love that face! Bless her. I know it's very bad and I know you rescued your beautiful girls Toddler. There is something very scrumptious about a grumpy Persian cat face Smile.

I wonder if she has the feline version of sepsis? An underlying infection. In her mouth? Which has thrown up random further problems? Gah.

I would like to say though Toddler, you are such a lovely Cat Mum. I've shed a few tears this week or so just reading your posts. Your absolute love and determination to do the right thing for both of your girls shines though Smile.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2017 20:58

Thankyou. I agree about their faces completely, though my two have very open faces, their noses are well below their eyes. Just been prodding her lump and I do think it's got smaller. Thought that yesterday but decided it was just wishful thinking. My thinking is a feline version of sepsis as well. Too many things just don't make sense, and why else would her pancreas her inflamed. She went down hill so quickly but has bounced back pretty quick. Apart from the eating she's pretty much her usual self again.

She has a look on her face which is - well, the nearest equivalent to the word I want to use but can't write (I can only say it) is .....thrawn. Wink

RubbishMantra · 24/02/2017 21:12

Thank goodness you found Snorgs and her DSis, Toddler. I imagine their previous owner wouldn't have been so caring.

The MantraCats and me sending love. And purrs.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2017 21:23

Love to the mantra cat's too!

Lightbulb moment. Just realised why you call them Mcat and Little M. Short fr Mantra cat. Am I correct?!

Grin There's a reason why I call mine the blob, or blobby boy too. It's only you lot that call him weedscat. Urging Snorg on...
Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2017 22:17

Vino, what did you stick your feeding tube on with? The vet wants a dressing on it other than the bandage but nothing will stick. Tried a kids cannula dressing but she scratched it off.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 24/02/2017 22:23

It beats me what you could use. All that fur! Grin

cozietoesie · 24/02/2017 22:28

Hopefully, it won't be for much longer, anyway.

Vinorosso74 · 24/02/2017 22:43

We had a stretchy bandage thing which we wrapped around her neck on top of the dressing which held it on place. It's the dressing which comes on a roll and kind of sticks to itself. The referral vets had some funky neckerchiefs to go over that but we couldn't take one.
Do you know how long the tube will be in?

Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2017 22:54

She's got a stretchy bandage but it's not one roll almost strangled her putting it back on. Will go to the chemist tomorrow and see what I can get that might be better. If I was at work and trying to get a child to feed, I would omit tube feeds and see what they do. Want to do this with her as I think she just might not be hungry or thirsty as the milk is very high calorie. Vet wants me to give her full feeds though. But I don't think we'll make any progress if I keep filling her up. So might give her the benefit of the doubt tomorrow. And see what she does.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 24/02/2017 22:55

What food are you giving her on the non-tube days? Little and often?

RubbishMantra · 24/02/2017 23:02

Love is good, and I'm pretty sure it comes back manyfold, as it surely bounces back and forth about the universes. And you've given a lot of love to your 2 girl cats. And to many children under your care, I would guess.

You're right, (almost Grin) about the boys' names. MCat is short for MantraCat, but Little M is short for Little Monsieur, his nick-name. Cos he's a proper Little Lord Fauntleroy!

Sending strength. And don't forget self care, like eating and sleeping. My DSis is a nurse, and I realise how draining night shifts can be.

Vinorosso74 · 24/02/2017 23:19

Our cat is short haired so there was less floof in the way than with your girl.
So it's milk rather than food you have? We had some Royal Canin stuff which you mixed with water to put in the tube which may be less calorific than milk.
I would go with the little and often on the food esp. with the feeding tube in. It is hard work with poorly pets. I found it all managable but was knackered. It's a good job she has a nurse as her slave.

Weedsnseeds1 · 24/02/2017 23:25

Maybe try offering her some tempting delicacy, such as her normal food with a Dreamies garnish, then topping up with tube feed if she doesn't go for it?

iloveeverykindofcat · 25/02/2017 07:23

You're doing an amazing job

Toddlerteaplease · 25/02/2017 08:23

Thanks. They always have dry food down so have just left that out. They don't like wet much. Tried lik e lix but both girls now turning their nose up at them. It's ready made recovery formula from Royal Canin that she's on. 60ml x4. I'm working three long days this week and that is stressing me out as it's a big ask for my parents to drive 25 miles everyday to feed her. I know they will do it happily though. She's back to her normal self and has spent most of the night snuggled up to me. With her sister taking over most of my pillow. Stereo purring!

OP posts:
Vinorosso74 · 25/02/2017 08:36

Would she eat something like boiled chicken or turkey breast? Has a strong smell when it's cooking so might interest her but bland enough on the tummy.
