Help! The kittens have disappeared!!!

Hurr1cane · 27/09/2014 08:37

Went out last night for 2 hours, before I went I fed the kittens and shut them in the living room.

I came home and looked for them, they're nowhere.

The living room door was still shut, but they were nowhere to be seen!

In my living room is a corner sofa. One chair, a TV and 2 Toy boxes and a fireplace. They aren't in any of them!!!

They are 4 orphaned/ dumped 6 week old kittens! How on earth have they vanished???? Where are they???

I've sat in there in the quiet and listened. No scratching. Now I've put food down and shut the door again hoping they'll eat then I'll know they're alive Sad but where on earth could they be!

Check the garden in that case. Good grief this is awful.

Hurr1cane · 27/09/2014 09:06

They were all in their bed when I shut it. I'm sure they were. I was rushing around because I was late but I checked.

My two got behind a bookcase and ended up in the drawers of it even though they were closed. How big is the hole where the fire is? Try a string toy to coax them out.

TooManyButtons · 27/09/2014 09:08

My kittens went up the chimney too, it's a gas fire with a back boiler so only a tiny hole, but they found it!

Staywithme · 27/09/2014 09:08

I feel sick for you. I don't think they would be old enough to get up the chimney. It must be the sofa. Oh I hope you find them love.

knittedslippersx2 · 27/09/2014 09:09

Have you got long curtains? They might be wrapped up in them! The tv cabinet?

Hurr1cane · 27/09/2014 09:12

Curtains are short. TV stand is one of those black metal ones which just has 3 shelves. Not there. Sat here silently playing a kitten meowing on YouTube to see if they responded but absolutely no sound at all here. It's silent

Yep, up the chimney is my guess, kittens can squeeze into the tiniest of gaps.

Hurr1cane · 27/09/2014 09:16

How can I tell if they're up there? Would they even be able to climb that far? Would I hear them??

OP posts:
QueenFuri · 27/09/2014 09:17

Is it one of those ugly box gas fires? If so yes one kitten could get up the hole but noway 4 and you would hear them miaowing I've had to block the hole on mine with newspaper as my kitten tried too climb up it. Mine is 12 weeks old and tiny I'm constantly losing her I've had to put a collar with a bell on so I can hear her! You will find them they will be curled up somewhere.

Hurr1cane · 27/09/2014 09:19

It's one of those ones with fake cola and a metal surround pretending to be a real fire but hasn't worked in years. I've shone a torch in the hole and played kitten meowing near it but I can't hear any noises

our cat did this when we first rescued her... she was so thin got behind the radiator. hope yours have turned up

Hurr1cane · 27/09/2014 09:22

They haven't! I'm now wiggling a toy down the hole but nothing.

How worrying Sad

Yy to tuna.

Hurr1cane · 27/09/2014 09:24

It's silent here! I've been banging around looking for them then sitting silently. You would think they would have woken and be scratching

Redtartanshoes · 27/09/2014 09:25

Have you emptied toy boxes?

Also I think you should check other rooms just incase.

How long have they been missing?

PacificDogwood · 27/09/2014 09:25

Put some tuna in the garden too?

TheDoctorSandshoesAndGrandad · 27/09/2014 09:27

Could they have left the living room whilst you've been looking for them, or have you made sure to shut the door?

I still manage to lose our cat some days, and he's a gigantic fluff ball maine coon.

Hope they turn up soon.

knittedslippersx2 · 27/09/2014 09:28

I agree about checking other rooms, just to be sure. Have you got cushions they could have crawled in, mine got inside my duvet cover once.

QueenFuri · 27/09/2014 09:28

Is their any large toys they could have got into? Inside the sofa? I would check other rooms as well.

Billynomates71 · 27/09/2014 09:29

We had a tiny jack Russell puppy who disappeared. Was only 4 weeks old. I knew the door hadn't been opened except briefly to let the other dogs in from the garden, she was bright white and I would have seen her if she had gotten out. We searched everywhere and couldn't find her. I was so worried I made my husband drive our land rover (we have a farm) onto the lawn to shine headlights across it so I could search the garden and hedgerows. Nothing. Then the land rover got stuck (ground was very wet) so we had to leave it there overnight. The next morning we had to drive the tractor onto the lawn to pull the Landy out, which subsequently meant ripping up the whole lawn and reseeding it, which cost about £1k.

Puppy was found asleep under the radiator behind the sofa. Blissfully unaware of the carnage that had occurred outside during her absence. Sad

I hope and am sure kittens will turn up. I once found my kittens at the top of the curtains clinging silently to the curtain rail. Xx

Hurr1cane · 27/09/2014 09:32

I've emptied the toy boxes and checked all the cushions. Going to check the other rooms as well. They were there when I went picking up my fella from work. I left at 1am and got back at 3am. He stayed over last night because it's my only night without DS (he usually has it off work but had to cover), when we got back. We went into the living room and they weren't anywhere. Then he went to bed and has left for work now.

I have made sure to keep the door shut. I think. I haven't slept all night and this is my only night to sleep I. The week because of my child with needs. I'm going to check the other rooms now

Ribbon is best for enticing naughty kittens - is there an air flow hole behind the chimney you can poke some through, or start dragging it behind radiators/furniture etc. also my kittens were always silent when hidden somewhere so you won't necessarily hear scratching.

TheDoctorSandshoesAndGrandad · 27/09/2014 09:35

Have you checked on your your other cats? Could one of them be 'mothering' them?

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/09/2014 09:35

One of my colleagues lost her cats under the floor boards & the fire service used heat seeking equipment to find them.
