Need urgent advice for a tiny kitten!

I've rescued a kitten who has been rejected by it's mum. It was one of two, Mum took the bigger one and never returned. Poor little thing was calling for her all yesterday and it broke my heart keeping my distance but today it started to go very quiet and shakey so I've taken it in. I know nothing about kittens no idea how old it is (fits easily into my hand, massive eyes and ears, very skinny wobbly legs that look a bit too long for its little body). I've given it tiny drops of milk from a syringe (sp?) prob takes 1ml at a time before it starts to refuse. What do I do (mostly regarding feeding but other advice would be much appreciated)? Live abroad so no shelters or rescue homes so I'm on my own with this one.

I have to admit I will feel better when she has a poo. Smile then we will know if everything is working.

ripsishere · 05/05/2012 09:59

Me too. Can't believe I am fretting about a kitten's arse end when there is so much more to worry about.
3, you need to collect it carefully and have it made into a perspex paperweight with the date and time engraved on the base.

Any movement yet?

Poor skinny kitty. Compare with my new baby Rupert (pic on profile). Who has pretty much doubled in size in the last week.

Sparklingbrook · 05/05/2012 10:12

Please do a poo today for Aunty Sparkling, Coco. Smile

OK I know I said this evening but this made me giggle. I was teaching my morning English lesson and feeling very guilty for being a working mummy to a tiny kitty so did my lesson Pinot style with a kitten down my top. In Turkey people don't really do pets (although it is getting more common) and it is a wee bit taboo having them in your house. All was going well and Coco was fast asleep when suddenly she started to wriggle betwixt my boobs much to the horror of the group of children I was teaching Blush. When she popped her head up out of my top she gave a tiny meow and one of the children shouted out 'Baby Cat' in perfect english. My kitty was much loved and we had an improptude lesson in animal baby names! Grin
Regarding the poo am I getting this arse rubbing thing wrong or what? How long should I rub for? Does one directiong work better than the other? At the mo I am using damp warm kitchen towel (the type with thirst pockets) using small clockwise movements and crossed fingers. Wees pre and post milk.
Have shown her the picture of Rupert and informed her that that is her goal. He is very cute! Smile

Have you tried being a bit firmer in your rubbing?

Sparklingbrook · 05/05/2012 12:30

Hopefully she will poo in your bra very soon 3.

Pinot · 05/05/2012 12:41

You need to be quite firm. Lie her on her side and rub downwards from tail to toe enough that her whole body 'rocks' if you see what I mean. It can take a while to stimulate and you need to keep going for a good while after the wee comes out. She will poo after a weeing, odds are. So a count of at least 30 seconds after her wee. And firm enough that she rocks.

I that kitten in your bra when teaching! :o They have a way of taking over your life :)

Pinot · 05/05/2012 12:41

Also, make sure her tail is held right up high so it's on the actual anus that you're rubbing.

3littlebadgers · 05/05/2012 12:47

Thanks ladies Thanks I will give it is go and report back this eve.

Oh sorry I didn't see you're in Turkey.

I wonder if you can get international delivery on this ?

ripsishere · 05/05/2012 17:41

3littlebadgers · 05/05/2012 18:10

Still no poo Sad I'm worried for my poor little Coco. Do all your kitties go everyday?

OP posts:
3littlebadgers · 05/05/2012 18:18

I hate to even think about it but do you think that is why it's mum rejected her? Sad My poor little Kitty she is so sweet I hate to think that anything could be wrong with her. I know it has only been a couple of days But I really love that little kitten. Come on Coco POO!
Do you think she could be in pain her tummy does look a little swollen compared to yesterday? Please if anyones kittens have gone for a few days without a bowel movement can you put my mind at rest?

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 05/05/2012 18:22

I doubt the Mummy cat would know if the kitten's bowels weren't right would she? Does she seem in pain?

Hopefully there will be an explosion soon........

3littlebadgers · 05/05/2012 18:33

She doesn't seem in pain but to be honest since this is the first cat I have ever cared for I am not sure I would know. She has been a little fussy over taking all of her 5mls since lunch time but I have upped her feeds to every 90mins-2hrs to fatten her up (gingerbread cottage style).
On a possitive note she is defo getting strength in her little claws! Ouch!

You could try Lactulose for kitty, you can get it from chemists, it's a stool softener, haven't seen it used on kittens but have seen it used on puppies. Will try and link some advice.
